The Divisional Playoffs have always been my favorite NFL playoff weekend and this weekend should be interesting. This is the last weekend that there will be four time slots in the NFL and most of the games should be pretty good.
With Brian Gutekunst officially getting introduced on Monday, all the focus goes to who the next Packers defensive coordinator will be.
This is a huge hire considering the defensive side of the ball was such a train wreck this past year.
This is about coach Mike McCarthy. With Ted Thompson being reassigned in the organization and with defensive coordinator Dom Capers already out, the onus falls on McCarthy.
Last March, the Packers waited signed Nick Perry to fill a pass-rushing void. On Friday evening, the Packers signed Davante Adams to be the Packers’ receiver of the future.
The one commonality between the two is that general manager Ted Thompson overpaid.
There is such an obsession to get every call right that every frame is combed to a fault. It has happened so much that the line between clarity and confusion has become nearly translucent.
Like the rest of the NFL, the Packers have been gutted by injuries. But even though Rodgers isn’t “coming back to save this team,” he will be pushed by a Carolina defensive front that will flush him out of the pocket.
Now everyone waits for the puff of white smoke from 1265 Lombardi Ave. Aaron Rodgers had the now-famous bone scan on Monday after two plates and 13 screws were placed on his broken right collarbone on Oct. 19.
Before deciding what players to keep or get for 2018, the Packers have to decide what to do with general manager Ted Thompson. He is the Packers’ gatekeeper and has mainly used the draft as his talent stream.
Clay Matthews has never been one to be a vocal leader about anything. He's the guy says that the Packers have to take things one game at a time — which drives me nuts.
Ever since Brett Hundley heard his name announced with the rest of the Packers starters on Oct. 22, the staccato applause was accompanied by a healthy dose of criticism.
The Martellus Bennett saga is confusing and disturbing. It’s bad enough that he was going to pout his way to retirement, but then he threw respected Packers team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie under the bus.
Thanks in large part to the efforts of Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have won the NFC North five times in the last six years. And now that Rodgers is out, the division is about as tight as a holiday sweater.
It has been hard to gauge just how good Hundley is by playing the role of the backup. He never started a game until Aaron Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone this year.
Coming off a bye week means that players are generally healthy and recharged for the second half. The Packers had a season-high 14 players appear on the injury report two weeks ago.
Aaron Rodgers brings out the best and worst of the Packers. He makes everyone else around him much better, but at the same time, we really can’t gauge if that player’s success was due to Rodgers or if it’s because that player was highly skilled.
But in order for that to happen, the Packers should go after Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The disenfranchised cornerback has been suspended by the Giants for throwing his coach Ben McAdoo under the bus and isn’t exactly a shining beacon of cohesiveness.
If Christian Watson truly has a handle on his hamstring issues, you can bet the Packers will look to get back to stretching the field vertically with the talented wide out.
