Madden Ratings for the 2019 Green Bay Packers

Madden Ratings for the 2019 Green Bay Packers

Madden 2020 comes out in just a few weeks, and it's now that time of year where EA Sports releases the ratings for every player in the league in advance for fans (and players themselves, in some cases) to argue and complain about.

So with that being said, here's a quick look at some of the ratings for the Packers for this season. A full list is available here

The top 10

Here are the 10 Packers the Madden team ranks the highest:

  1. David Bakhtiari: 97 overall
  2. Davante Adams: 92 overall
  3. Kenny Clark: 90 overall
  4. Aaron Rodgers: 90 overall
  5. Adrian Amos, Jr.: 87 overall
  6. Mike Daniels: 87 overall
  7. Bryan Bulaga: 85 overall
  8. Jaire Alexander: 83 overall
  9. Jimmy Graham: 83 overall
  10. Za'Darius Smith: 83 overall

Potentially underrated players

A lot of the debate tends to revolve around quarterbacks in these rankings. Aaron Rodgers is, according to Madden, the seventh-best quarterback in the league. But that's certainly not the ranking that seems to be the biggest slight.

How about Corey Linsley? Rated at just 80 overall, Linsley has to be not just one of the more underrated (again, according to Madden) players on the Packers, but also in the entire league. He consistently ranks as one of the league's best players at the center position. You don't exactly get a ton of centers with eye-popping Madden ratings, but he's certainly worthy of a better score than what he got.

Geronimo Allison, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Darnell Savage, Jr. (74, 73 and 72, respectively) all strike me as players who could see their Madden ratings go up by a fair amount over the course of the season as they establish themselves.

Potentially overrated players

At this point, I doubt most people would consider Jimmy Graham a top-10 Packer, but there he sits at number 9, which is likely due in large part to name recognition. His 83 overall is generous, but I still have some hope he could live up to his contract this year in a different offensive system.

Mike Daniels at an 87 also seems to be rather generous given his output of late. He's still an important cog in that defense, but is he still a potentially game-changing player? He's going to have to prove it this season.

So there you have it, a quick, gratuitous look at a bunch of meaningless ratings that will ultimately have no influence on how any of the games play out this season.

The fact that Rodgers was below Wilson, Rivers and Luck is beyond ridiculous. I'll take Mahomes, Brady and Brees, but c'mon here.

Why? All 3 of them outplayed Rodgers by a considerable margin last season.

I had nfl Sunday ticket, watched a ton of games and I think luck with his pinpoint passing made them all look bad and I'm a big Brady fan. Colts were lacking a couple of players and they could have done it all.
Rodgers was horrid. No confidence to thread the needle, held onto the ball and tossed many out of bounds in a hissy fit. Just an avg guy now.

"Average" is a term for Andy Dalton not Aaron Rodgers. "Average" QB's don't throw for over 4k yards throw 25 TD's to 2 INT's.

Yes, Rodgers had an "off year" in 2018, but we should be overjoyed when things are that bad, they are still that good.

Rodgers and Luck had the same amount of passing yards , luck had 14 more TD'S but also 13 more int's .

Madden ratings are garbage and they routinely butcher the Packers, specifically (imo)

So, what do Madden ratings have to do with actual player performance?

I didn't think so.

It's Maddening

I think Kevin King could also climb the ratings ladder, if he suits up more often than not.

Question: Anybody know if Madden has traditionally done a roster- player ratings update right after the NFL preseason concludes? just curious, thanks!
