Spotlight Potential: The Power of Love

Jordan Love is in a prime position to establish himself as a top quarterback in the league.

Never underestimate the Power of Love, word to Celine Dion. It has been fascinating to observe the lack of belief from folks that just automatically assume Jordan Love is not capable of ascending as a top quarterback in the league. Whether it is the strong haterade they are sipping on or just a lack of paying attention, Love has balled out in his first two years as a starter for Green Bay.

Yes, there have been growing pains but that is expected. Bottom line is that Love is 2/2 in leading the Packers to the playoffs following the footsteps of arguably the greatest player in the franchise’s history. Give the man his flowers!

Jordan Love Breakout Season Incoming?

I asked this question on my “Pass the Damn Ball” TikTok account and it got a lot of interaction. Mostly short one word answers from users writing “nope”. Okay, Packers fandom biased aside, it seems a bit reckless and negligent to just rule out that possibility.

Especially when you look at recent history of Green Bay quarterbacks starting year three. I am looking forward to seeing how he continues to grow and establish himself as a top quarterback in the league. He has that potential.

How does Love compare with other QBs in the last two seasons?

According to StatMuse, since Love became a starter in 2023 he ranks 10th in most passing yards by a QB with 7,548 yards in 32 games played. That puts him right behind Matthew Stafford who has 7,727 yards and ahead of QBs like Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert.

Love ranks 15th in QBR with a rating of 96.3 which is right behind MVP Josh Allen who has a rating of 96.4 and ahead of Jalen Hurts and C.J. Stroud. Love is tied for 5th with Josh Allen for total touchdowns by a QB with 57 right behind Burrow with 58 and ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy.

Love ranks 10th in wins with a total of 18 tied with Purdy and Geno Smith. One stat we would like to see cut down is interceptions as he has thrown the 7th most with 22 right behind Purdy with 23. If you look at the other QBs who have thrown more interceptions, they are all top tier passers in the game.

One thing for sure about Love is that he passes the damn ball. This touchdown throw to Romeo Doubs against the Seahawks this last year is absolutely ridiculous.

We have witnessed Love make throws like this on a weekly basis. The touchdown throw to Tucker Kraft threading the needle against the Texans comes to mind as well as the perfectly placed long bomb to a triple covered Jayden Reed against the Rams. It is not a mirage. Believe what you see and trust that the Power of Love in year three will be something special.

Jordan Love does not have the supporting cast current elite QBs enjoy.
All of the top 8-9 teams have:

--Better play-callers
-Better, more seasoned receivers
-Stronger O-lines

It is not fair to compare him to the best QBs until Packer's significantly upgrade their receivers, play-caller and O-Lines so as to be comparable. He cannot carry this entire group and neither could Hurt, Mahomes, Allen, etc.

Football is a team sport.

The only part of your assessment of the supporting cast around Love that I can agree with is the "seasoned receivers" bit (I don't believe most teams have 'better'.. just more seasoned.)

Mecole Hardman is "seasoned." The seasoning on Doubs will hopefully be helpful. Watson returning will be ... interesting.

@Oppy-I was trying to be tactful. GB receivers cannot compare with the receivers of the top 8-9 teams. 2 are oft-injured, 2 are rookies, the other has the drops and Mecole Hardman is a #3.If he were a reliable #2 he would have been in demand.

I have no interest in the Vikings-I do have an interest in evaluating the Packers honestly.
Packers cannot compare to the top 8-9 teams in play-calling, receiver talent reliability and O-Line.
My point is that Love shouldn't take the fall for the combined Packers offensive (and some Defense) weaknesses. I would hold him accountable if he had commensurate supporting cast talent-he just doesn't.

Why don't we objectively discuss the quality of the receivers(including TEs), O-Line and play-callers
of the Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Lions, etc. and compare them to what we see on the Packers.
Let's stop piling on Love. Why don't we talk about how MLF compares to the play-callers on those teams?

MLF is a great playcaller. He's got a lot of room to improve in many facets of coaching, but he's a great play caller.

Last season the playcalling absolutely SUCKED in one aspect; nobody was fooled whether it was going to be a run or pass play. Not one opponent, not one play. I don't mind MLF delegating responsibility, in fact I think he should do that more. But with whoever else was calling the run plays, the two were disjointed.

This one thing can improve, and might be the single biggest variable this season ...

GPG!

Packers were 6th in the league in total yards per carry in 2024. Keep in mind, the Packers had the 5th most carries in the league last season.

That means one of two things; either the Packers' opponents were indeed 'fooled' at least some of the time by their run selection, or 'fooling' the opponent into believing you're passing the ball when you're actually running it isn't as big of an edge as simply being good at running the ball.

For me, personally, I don't think fooling the defense into thinking run or pass and then doing the other thing is nearly as big of a component to success as executing the play call and beating the guy in front of you.

Two things would be helpful:

1) The receivers have to do their job and catch the ball when it is catchable. The Packers had the third-highest drop percentage in the league last season.

2) Focus on developing a reliable short passing game. Take checkdowns when they offer a reasonable opportunity to pick up yards. Use Kraft more and the RBs more often. I remember reading in a Polluted Mindset article that the Packers did not have one third down conversion via pass using a RB last season. That's hard to believe, and something that needs to change in a major way.

Packers had the 3rd highest total dropped passes in the league in 2024- I assume their dropped pass percentage was #1 in the league considering that only two teams had fewer pass attempts than the Packers in 2024.

I was pretty amazed by the zero 3rd down pass conversions for RBs, too. I mean, with Jacobs' ability to break tackles, it seems like a no brainer. He should be able to pick up the 3rd and mediums all day. Anything under 7 yards would be almost automatic with a swing pass to him in the flat.

Yup, #8 & 85 need to be targeted. A LOT. They're our two best playmakers, and should be treated as such.

"in a Polluted Mindset article that the Packers did not have one third down conversion via pass using a RB last season."

Man that IS an ugly stat, one that's really pretty hard to wrap your head around when you think about it. With the RBs the Packers have there's no way they shouldn't be way more involved. Josh Jacobs is such a good receiver and the kid coming in, Marshawn Lloyd is really something else with the ball in his hands.

And stop throwing deep to a receiver in double coverage on 3rd and 2.

love is a bust, deal with it.
mr policy yesterday told lafleur and guteunst they are done. next one will be love. as I predicted weeks ago.

can you try to explain something related to football? or you are just a moral judge? :)
I wrote weeks ago that january 26 gutey lafleur and love will be done in GB.
yesterday Policy started the process with gutey & lafleur.
so try to argue your own opinion, your vision or something which is not just insulting with no reason.

“You’ve got three exceptional people doing an exceptional job right now and working well together,” Policy said of LaFleur, Gutekunst and executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball. “I feel very good about all three of those individuals. I love them. I trust them. I respect them. . . . I have terrific relationships, both working and personal, with them.”

Why would I dignify delusional ramblings with any sort of response beyond mockery?

All I'm gonna say is Stockholder better watch out as you're coming for his position :)

the most important thing he said he is not going to make a new contract this year. and he does not like to have people working on the last year of their contract.
to me this means, january 2026 ed policy wants to run HIS packers with a new gm. the new gm will hire a new hc and will draft or trade or sign the new qb.
and I can't wait to see the new era starting.

You've outdone yourself this time....and that's saying something. In what alternate universe was Jeff Janis ever WR1? In his BEST year (2016) he had 11 receptions and 1 TD. His CAREER (4 years) totals are 38 receptions with that 1 TD and a 45% catch rate.

ALSO:
-Jordan Love is far from a bust
-Policy NEVER said Lafluer and Gute are done.

Stop making sh*t up. It just shows everyone how ignorant you are.
