Broncos Expected to Bench LB D.J. Williams For One Quarter

Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams is expected to be benched for the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, reports Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.

Williams was arrested for suspicion of DUI early Friday morning, his second DUI arrest since being selected by the Broncos with the 17th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.

"The behavior, and the fact that we're two days away from a game, it's very disappointing to me, to our entire organization, and it would be no matter who it was," Broncos head coac Josh McDaniels said on Friday.

Denver's expected decision to bench Williams will not affect the discipline the NFL is expected to handed down.

Williams likely faces a multi-game suspension similar to the one given to San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson at the start of this season. Like Williams, Jackson was arrested for DUI for a second time.

Williams currently leads the Broncos in tackles (72) and quarterback sacks (3.5) from his inside linebacker position.

Update: Gary Miller of CBS-4 in Denver reports that, in addition to being benched for a portion of Sunday's game, Williams has been fined by the team and stripped of his captaincy.
