Twitter Trail: Pre-Season Game 1 Packers vs. Titans

Top tweets during the Packers - Titans Preseason Game.

Personnel, Formations, Usage, Injuries.

  • Jermaine Whitehead is dealing with a back injury…. Nagler
  • Josh Jones being evaluated for a concussion.  Josh Jones going to the locker room. Nagler
  • Kentrell Brice out there as the starting strong safety to open.  Wood
  • Frankly, all 3 QBs showed a lot of positives tonight. Mike McCarthy has to be thrilled.  Wood
  • Quinten Rollins playing safety next to Marwin Evans. Herb Waters and Josh Hawkins are the corners  Hodkiewicz  Came in with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, when Boyle also entered the game.
  • Mike Pettine is clearly playing it as vanilla as possible. He's shown far more pressures and rush combinations in practice than he has early in the preseason opener. He's also playing without seven likely opening day starters. Demovsky
  • Kyle Murphy is Packers' starting LT with Bakhtiari out, and Bell at RT with Bulaga out. Spriggs not in starting lineup.  Dougherty
  • The Packers' O-line to start the second half (left to right): Murphy, Amichia, Day, Pankey, Spriggs.  Demovsky
  • Packers have dropped Kyler Fackrell into coverage on a number of snaps here early.  Kruse
  • Interesting 5-wide spread look to open second drive. RBs Ripkowski and Montgomery both split wide along with three WRs  Spofford
  • Fifth penalty on the drive.  Huber
  • The Packers coaches have given Quinten Rollins every chance to play himself off the roster. It's working.  Hirschhorn  Rollins back to field the punt. He doesn't call for a fair catch and fumbles when LeShaun Sims hits him.  Cohen  Rollins allowed a 38-yard reception when he dove and miss on a PBU.  Cohen
  • Greer Martini is into the action early. He was also on both the first kickoff and KO return teams.  Demovsky  Nice special-teams tackle by undrafted rookie Greer Martini. Wood
  • Reggie Gilbert out here showing why the Packers were so high on him to end last season.  Price  Quick pressure from Reggie Gilbert. Won with an inside move. Big night for 93 so far.  Kruse  Gilbert draws a hold and then pressures Gabbert into an incompletion.  Reggie Gilbert and Jerome Whitehead force pressure of Gabbert on back-to-back plays.  Hodkiewicz  Man, that's another nice play from Reggie Gilbert. Beat the guard inside and stuffed the run.  Kruse
  • Justin McCray played the entire first half at right guard.  Robert Tonyan made a big catch in middle of field Knew hit was coming from behind but catch it anyway.  Hodkiewicz
  • Some questionable decisions from Kizer on that drive.  Cohen  DeShone Kizer had a TD to Geronimo Allison early on in that goal-to-go series. Instead of hitting Allison's back, right shoulder, he threw to his front, left shoulder. Should've been picked by LeShaun Sims.  Wood  Kizer stepped up between right guard and right tackle to heave deep for Valdes-Scantling, who got behind the defense. 27-yard gain. Cohen
  • Brett Hundley appears to be finished and his preseason opener has to be considered a success: 9-of-14 for 108 yards with one TD and one INT (that wasn't his fault). Highlight was the 48-yard deep ball on the money to Davante Adams.  Demovsky  Don't know which is more surprising: that Brett Hundley rolled left, or that he threaded that ball to EQ St. Brown through two defenders. Nice play.  Wood
  • Dang, that's a great route from Jake Kumerow. Sold it outside so well. Kruse  Kumerow getting a first-team rep on kick return to start second half. Special-teams reps are key for him cracking the 53.  Wood  And now a massive 49-yard touchdown pass from Tim Boyle to Jake Kumerow...because  Hodkiewicz  Somebody was excited for that Kumerow TD.  Wilde - photo of Aaron Rodgers going crazy under tweet.
  • Nice catch by Allison.  Nagler
  • Some guys just jump out during games.  MVS has been one of those guys tonight. Gosh, he's big and fast. Wood  Huge catch by Valdes-Scantling downfield. Had a drop in end zone during Family Night. Good comeback play there for 51 yards.  Hodkiewicz  Nice delivery from Kizer to MVS for a 15-yard gain.  Silverstein  Physical talent for Marquez Valdes-Scantling and J'Mon Moore is undeniable. If they learn to finish...Kruse Too many almost made the receptions from the rookies, including Moore.  Marquez Valdes-Scantling now with 5 catches for 101 yards and a TD.  Hodkiewicz
  • That 5-yard run from DeShone Kizer, making Titans OLB Aaron Wallace miss in the backfield, was impressive. Kyle Murphy got beat as bad there as when Harold Landry forced Brett Hundley to fumble earlier.  Wood
  • No doubt, Byron Bell got beat bad.  Wood  The Packers have a problem at right tackle if Bryan Bulaga can't go. Byron Bell got smoked by Gimel President, who hit Brett Hundley as he threw.  Demovsky Byron Bell is having a rough night. Couldn't handle a bull rush early in the drive and then gets beaten on the INT.  Huber  Byron Bell is a guard.  Nagler
  • That's a good ball from Brett Hundley.  J'Mon Moore needs to come down with it.  Wood  Same thing in 2nd half.  J'Mon Moore got deep behind CB Kalan Reed and dropped a beautiful pass from Tim Boyle, who stood in the pocket and absorbed a hit.  Cohen
  • Tim Boyle put it right on the money and Moore dropped a deep ball. Probably would have been 6.  Silverstein  Tim Boyle with a shot down the middle to St. Brown. And took a hit right after he threw it. 28-yard gain.  Silverstein  Boyle to Valdes-Scantling with that sweet, sweet 15-yard touchdown drive. APC  Boyle is 6 of 14 for 78 yards and a touchdown, 84.8 rating. 4 minutes to go in the 4th.  And now a massive 49-yard (52) touchdown pass from Tim Boyle to Jake Kumerow...because Hodkiewicz Boyle now 7 for 15, 130 yards, 2 TDs, one head scratcher pass that hit the ground just before it could be intercepted.  Tim Boyle has a great arm. Kruse  116.7 rating.  Wood  Kumerow had some issues getting separation from the starters and second-string corners. Big play against the reserves to cap his night.  Cohen
  • Trevor Davis better get back on the field soon.  Kruse Not sure if this is due to MVS or Kumerow, or ESB
  • Kizer got a lot done in his one quarter. He finishes 10-of-19, 134 yards, 7.1 yards per pass, no TDs or INTs, and a 75.3 rating.  Hundley was 9-14, 108, 7.7, TD, INT, 81.9.  Wood
  • Credit Yancey for coming back after the early drop to make a couple clutch grabs along the boundary.  Spofford
  • Montravius Adams didn’t finish the play there, but he beat the block, kept his footing and redirected the run.  Kruse
  • #42 Oren Burks not fooled.  The young kid looks the part.  Tough for a 230 pounder.  Baranczyk
  • Ha Ha Clinton-Dix made a nice tackle to halt Dion Lewis for 1-yard on first play of the series.  Hodkiewicz
  • Good coverage from Josh Jackson on end zone fade. Kruse Later called for a penalty.  Has been grabby in TC, but this looks a little ticky tacky.
  • Montgomery picks up the blitz and kizer runs for the first. Kruse  That might be the best job in pass pro I've ever seen from Montgomery.  Nagler
  • Hundley with a really nice ball to Davante Adams over Malcolm Butler. That's a 48-yard gain.  Silverstein
  • Nice open-field moves by Williams to take a short pass and get to the goal line for an 8-yard TD.  Spofford  Jamaal Williams showing up in the passing game. He could be a big time weapon if the Packers decide to utilize him more there, esp early in the season.  Nagler
  • Kenny Clark works off a block and down the line and stops Derrick Henry on the first play of the preseason.  Kruse
  • First fumble of the game. Looks like Kendall Donnerson forced it and Biegel recovered.  Silverstein

Special Teams:

  • First punt for JK Scott was poor: 31 yards, 4.71 seconds, fair caught at the 21-yard line.  Cohen
  • 52 yard punt from Scott. No return. Completely flips the field.  Nagler
  • Triner gets the first snap on the extra point.  Huber First TD
  • Donnerson's forced fumble sets up a 41-yard field goal by kicker Mason Crosby. Rookie long snapper Hunter Bradley was in for that play. Cohen
