Tackling Retirement: Ruettgers Knows How Clifton Feels
At some point left tackle Chad Clifton will consider retirement, and former Packers offensive lineman Ken Ruettgers knows all about the difficult decision Clifton must eventually make.
My newest weekly column on the Green Bay Packers focuses on the similarities between the left tackle situation today and the last time the Packers won the Super Bowl in 1996.
I had the opportunity to interview Ken Ruettgers who knows a thing or two about dealing with injury issues and what Chad Clifton is going through with his eventual replacement already on the roster.
The column appears in the Bliss Communications platform of publications including the Janesville Gazette, Janesville Messenger, Stateline News and Walworth County Sunday.
It also appears in the Reilly family of newspapers including the Dodgeville Chronicle, the Pecatonica Valley Leader and the Democrat Tribune of Mineral Point.

Awesome stuff. I hope Bulaga is better than Michels.

What about Tauscher? I almost popped a blood vessel in my head after his back-to-back false starts. With Lang inactive, who is the back-up RT?
Also, sort of related, but I was wondering how penalties like Taucher's, which really only accounted for a few inches each, get factored into the total penalty yardage stats.

I don't think Lang is full speed. He backed up almost every position last year. I believe he hasn't regained his strenght yet.

Amazing work Brian.
You know I was thinking about it yesterday. We had some patchwork OL in the 96' season, yet the performance was much better throughout than this line. Wonder the motives... Even Sitton was getting manhandled last game, which almost never happens.

It is funny that Chicago had to shuffle their line for Monday night, and the guy that they plugged in at RT handled CM3 quite well. But here the Packers are, afraid to make the move and put Bulaga out there. I think they have to go to Bulaga (and Lang when he's ready) sooner than later. They will not get past the Wild Card round the Clifton and Tauscher playing this way. If nothing else, give Clifton a bye week agaisnt the Lions, and trot him out if Bulaga is getting killed.
