The Green Bay Packers added to their practice squad on Tuesday, signing defensive lineman Joe Kruger, the brother of Cleveland Browns linebacker Paul Kruger.

A product of Utah, the younger Kruger was originally a seventh round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. He spent the entirety of the 2013 season on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in the preseason.

Kruger was released by the Eagles on Aug. 23, 2014, claimed by the San Diego Chargers on Aug. 25, 2014, and released on Aug. 30, 2014. He made nine tackles in four preseason games this season.

In three seasons at Utah, Kruger started 37 out of 38 total games, making 69 tackles, 14 for a loss, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and a touchdown. He was named honorable mention All-Pac 12 as a junior.

Kruger is 6-6, 287 lbs. and will wear No. 74 for the Packers. He becomes the only defensive lineman on the Packers practice squad after Luther Robinson was promoted prior to the Vikings game last Thursday.

Joe's brother Paul received notoriety for his big season in 2012, making nine sacks and winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens. He signed a five-year $40 million contract with the Browns the following offseason.

Another brother, Dave, also played briefly with the Browns in 2013 before being released.

There's been no official word on Monday's reported signing of offensive lineman Jordan McCray, although it could be that McCray just hasn't arrived in Green Bay yet. With the first day of practice this week not taking place until Wednesday, he hasn't missed any on-field action.

Until the McCray signing is made official, the Packers still have one open spot on their 10-member practice squad.

I remember liking Kruger coming out of college. He has perfect size to play the 5 technique.
He is definitely worth investing some time into.

Do you think we need another 5 technique?

I'm not so sure, I tend to think the team would be better served with someone on their practice squad with some beef to them.

Glad they added a D-lineman though and I hope he develops into someone who if called upon could be more than serviceable.

The last time I recall the Packers put the younger brother of a big-time NFL defender on the practice squad it was Kris Jenkins' brother, Cullen.

I hope this move works out half as well.
