I think McDuffie can play defensive snaps at ILB without being a liability. I don't think Wilson or Carpenter can at this stage of their respective careers. Players miss time occasionally, so having a guy like McDuffie seems necessary to me.

McDuffie played 263 ST snaps; Wilson played 197 ST snaps; Carpenter played 122 ST snaps.
McDuffie played 174 defensive snaps, to 35 for Wilson and 16 for Carpenter.

True, perhaps Carpenter has upside due to his safety/coverage potential. Wilson will be 29. We know who he is, though he has played quite a few NFL defensive snaps.

I am not dissing Carpenter or Wilson, both of whom have a good chance to stick. All three are in the 6'1" and 230 pound area. I just think McDuffie should be the highest rated of these three.
