2018 Grades:

How I Grade

  • Each player starts by getting a zero or neutral grade on a play. If they performed as expected on a play, their grade stays at zero.
  • For a slightly above or below average play, the player gets graded -0.1 or +0.1. The vast majority of grades on the vast majority of plays are graded -0.1, 0, or +0.1.
  • The highest and lowest grades on an individual play are +2.0 and -2.0 respectively. These would be large, game-changing plays.
  • I won’t grade a play negatively if I cannot tell which player was at fault.
  • Most of the time it’s difficult to tell the play, so I’m not grading on the execution of the play call as an NFL coach would.
  • The goal of this exercise is to grade every snap over the course of the season to get a long-term view of which performers are performing well and which are not meeting expectations. This is very similar to what Pro Football Focus tries to achieve. Is it perfect? No. But what you are getting is a consistent grader who is watching specifically Packer games and putting multiple hours into every week to breakdown film and assign grades.
  • Grades are for offense and defense only (including two point conversions). Special teams does not factor in.

Watching Chargers at Ravens. John Harbaugh my be looking for a job, he's getting schooled. -2 yards passing in the 4th with his running QB. Bet Flacco will be coming in.

HankScorpio's picture

Derwin James just hideously mis-played a pass to give the Ravens the tiniest glimmer of life. Reminded me of HHCD on that pop-up 2 pt attempt vs Seattle in the 2015 AFC CG. Definitely not an All Pro moment for the rookie All Pro.

LMAO it aint over til its over, 2 TD's by Jackson, Chargers are blowing it.

GBPDAN1's picture

Bears just lost.... LOL. Parkey was off the Markey. I think Parkey is the new Steve Bartman

And the all world K. Mack was nearly invisible today. Jason Peters handled him.

1 and done!

Den's picture

Peters was very impressive. Where can we get one like him?

How on earth could a team with Khalil Mack not win the SB???

LeotisHarris's picture

Not just Mack, but losing with a young innovative wizard as head coach. Gandalf the Gray shows up to tell Matt Nagy "You shall not pass!"

If only Gute hadn't blown it by not signing Mack.

Generational edge rusher: check
Playcalling wizardry: check

You mean there are more items on the list than these two? I utter a most undignified “harumph”!

DA Bears - what a bunch of chokes.

Minniman's picture

Many thanks for the herculean effort in compiling this week-on-week Andy. Kudos.

...... On another note, typing this I'm literally 2 minutes removed from watching the Bears kicker lose the wild card game against the Eagles. Any chance on getting a grade for him? :)

..................Anyway, go the Eagles against NO, for no other reason than to elevate the Packers other first round pick!

HankScorpio's picture

Definitely looking for the Saints to go one and done. 28 beats 30-32

That kick was pure gold! The double doink. That has got to go down in history as one of THEE BEST endings to a Bears season.

JimR_in_SoCal's picture

That there is your basic Discount Double-Doink.

Duh Bears still suck.

LeotisHarris's picture

Double Doink for our Chicago friends, and Wide Left for our friends in Minnesota. There are certain phrases that can end unpleasant conversations quickly.

The Vikings miss the playoffs, the Bears are out and GB have the higher draft picks this April. All is good.

He'll be drunk as a skunk for a week or two.

Bert's picture

Lol!!!! Maybe you're right.

Daren726's picture

No 1 defense. 180 million for Mack. And a field goal kicker that is tied for 2nd most missed field goals in the league. Priceless!!!

Minniman's picture

Apparently there was a "hand of god" in there that tipped the ball. Same end result, but at least the kicker now won't be on self-harm watch.

CAG123's picture

The Bears Vikinged it up just like I knew they would that Khalil Mack trade got them a division title and 4 extra quarters of football. Their Super Bowl drought continues 34 years and counting lol

4thand1's picture

bearstillsucks troll disliking all the comments.........priceless. DOINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bure9620's picture

Too bad for Ray mean Cody Parkey

"The Bears still suck!"
