Ending the Self-Inflicted Wounds Is the Packers Only Hope

The Packers have no margin for error if they have any hopes of making the playoffs.

For those folks that are into searching for the Green Bay Packers team identity from year to year, 2018 has remained a mystery in finding a personality for the team.  After the crushing loss in Seattle, the common theme for the season thus far really comes down to the team’s innate ability to shoot themselves in the foot time and time again and really has become their identity 10 games into the season.

With a near perfect record at home and a completely opposite winless record on the road, this 2018 Packers team has the talent level to compete for a division and conference championship.  It has been said that the difference between a 10-6 and a 6-10 season can come down to just four plays in a season and the road losses that continue to pile up really bring this statement to light.  With the Packers consistently beating themselves, their talent level isn’t translating into wins and is leaving fans, coaches and players frustrated with how the season has progressed so far.

Many questions are arising as to why the critical mistakes are happening and, honestly, the finger can be pointed in a variety of directions.  Coaching mistakes, individual player mistakes and offensive/defensive unit mistakes are plenty.  Following is a synopsis of the moments of the season that have plagued the Packers through ten games:

  • @ Washington – being down 28-10 at the half and closing the distance to 28-18 on their first drive in the second half, the Packers offense stalled for the remainder of the game.  With just over five minutes remaining and hoping to mount an 11-point comeback, a pass to Randall Cobb and subsequent fumble broke all momentum and sealed the win for the Redskins – BANG!
  • @ Detroit – after falling to a 24-0 halftime deficit, the Packers posted two touchdowns in the third quarter to pull within ten points of the Lions.  A Lions touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter thwarted any momentum the Packers would try and gain at the end.  With four total missed field goals and a missed PAT by Mason Crosby, the Packers would end up losing 31-23 with 13 points left off the board – BANG!
  • @ Los Angeles Rams – after going into the half with a 10-8 lead, the Packers and Rams duked it out in the third quarter where the Rams took a 23-20 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Rams would extend the lead with a field goal, the Packers would take the lead with a touchdown and the Rams would regain the lead by two points with a field goal with just over three minutes remaining.  With the Packers offense being on fire, confidence was sky high that Aaron Rodgers could lead the team on a winning drive.  That was thwarted when returner Ty Montgomery inexplicably took the ensuing kickoff out of the end zone and fumbled the victory away – BANG!
  • @ New England – losing 17-10 heading to halftime and evening the score in the third quarter at 17-17, the Packers looked poised to knock off Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on their home turf on Sunday Night Football.  On the first play of the fourth quarter, running back Aaron Jones fumbled away the Packers hopes.  The turnover led to a Patriots touchdown, a Packers three and out and another Patriots touchdown to seal the Packers fate – BANG!
  • @ Seattle – in the hostile environment of CenturyLink Field, the Packers came out swinging and taking Seattle’s 12th Man out of the game by jumping out to a 14-3 lead early in the game.  While holding a 21-17 lead heading into the half and the fourth quarter, the Packers offense only mustered four drives resulting in punts and a field goal in the entire second half of the game.  At crunch time, down by three with just over five minutes remaining, the Packer offense displayed a disgusting three and out series that was made worse by Mike McCarthy’s decision to punt the ball away rather than taking a chance on 4th & 2 with over four minutes remaining in the game.  The Packers wouldn’t see the ball again – BANG!

Sitting at 4-5-1 with their backs against the wall and just six games on the season remaining, the big question is whether or not the continual self-inflicted wounds the Packers put upon themselves can be fixed.  With self-awareness being the first step to many things, the key components of the Packers machine are certainly self-aware of the issues that have been plaguing this team.  In McCarthy’s post-game press conference, he reiterated that while the team came to Seattle ready to play and started fast, they need to finish games better.  Rodgers, obviously frustrated by his tone and demeanor in his post-game press conference, stated that the team beat themselves in the second half of the Seattle game.

With a trip to Minnesota to take on the Vikings just eight days away, the margin for error is nil for the remainder of the season.  McCarthy explained to the media that while there is not a lot of football left, there is enough football yet for this team to turn things around.  Rodgers also hinted that the 2018 Packers are looking for a galvanizing moment to get this thing going, whether that be through a speech, a practice or a moment in a game, and that hasn’t occurred yet.  In no spot would that galvanizing moment be better than at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis next Sunday.  With the December schedule looking much friendlier than the past five weeks, a clean win over the Vikings could give the Packers the confidence needed heading into the December stretch that features three games within the friendly confines of Lambeau Field.

Agree, and at some point you need to realize the team isn't competing, probably doesn't have the horses, and we need a roster flush and a new influx of talent into the roster. Even if we had the roster, the offensive side of the ball is horrific.

I also place a lot of this on Aaron Rodgers, I don't think the dude assumes enough responsibility in getting his new blood WR's ready to play. I think of Peyton Manning in Denver, and the razor focus the dude had with making sure all his receivers new what was expected.

I kind of feel like Rodgers takes too long in helping develop his guys, probably not working hard enough at it.

We definitely need a new offensive scheme, coaching staff, and more talent. Problem is, would Rodgers even know a blue chip WR if it hit him over the head? I still think a big part of WR development and "Chemistry" is on the QB, and I don't feel like Rodgers is as good at it as he should be.

Going to be an interesting offseason.

Almost every single one of these mistakes is indicative of a young team. Frankly, I expected a couple losses like WAS and DET with a team in year 1 of a makeover (and let's all just stop kidding ourselves and agree that this is exactly what Gute is working on). However, what we should be seeing as the year rolls on is less of those mistakes and more execution.

The fact that we're not points us towards the coaching staff.

Yes, lots of mistakes are being made by younger players, but many of them are also being made by veterans- Crosby, Cobb, Montgomery, Rodgers, Matthews, etc.

As you say, it all comes back to coaching, and perhaps a lack of on-field leadership from the veteran players. Players have to be reminded time after time specifically what they need to do in every situation. If they still make mistakes after that, they need to find another line of work.

Right. And have the veterans been held accountable? HELL NO! I mean, Gute had to trade HHCD and cut Whitehead to get Jones and Raven Green on the field. WTH! The highly promising rookie WRs would not be as developed as they are if not for Cobb's (constant) injuries and Allison's core injury. I'd rather have Allison, but Cobb should have been cut before the year. And let's not forget the biggest guy not being held accountable: Aaron Charles Rodgers. He's paid to be the man, and he has been anything but for most of the season. What's worse, his body language is awful and he's blamed others constantly for mistakes. He's the leader of the band - the leader takes blame, regardless of who's fault it really is.

The coaching staff needs to be held accountable by Gute. And soon.

yeah, AR blaming others is hard to watch. He is the biggest reason for the record. He has better weapons than most QBs in the NFL.

He was off (2015-2016) before, but this blaming others is not one of his best sides.

I remember a article from Chris Havel as he gets in for Favre in Dallas. Played good but broke his foot in the end and we lost? not sure. but anyway, Havel had some problems that he waived his arms in the air to blame the o-line. He said Favre never did that in all his years and the rookie started it right away.
AR handled it better over the years, but he always did some of this stuff and it got worse now. It was one of the things he could have learned from 4.

I agree with the assessment of Rodgers and accountability, but have to wonder if he portrays such angst with others on the field and in the media to a lesser degree (when he has a moment to compose himself?) what the vibe is in the locker room? Hard to believe it’s real positive currently or has been in the past few years. Not than any of us truly know as the Pack do a champions job of circling the wagons generally. Wish they displayed the same functionality on the field on Sundays.

Gute does NOT have the authority to hold the coaching staff accountable!

The coaches, not the veteran players, should coach the players . Who did Favre ever coach?

Our coaches were picked by MM, our coaches report to MM, Gute has no authority over the coaches.

Blaming Rodgers for not coaching the players is interesting. Should he coach offensive linemen, receivers, tight ends and running backs? What do we pay millions for the coaches to do? If a young player makes a mental mistake are you going to blame the oldest player or maybe the best player for not adequately coaching?

I think bad coaching should be blamed on Murphy first, then McCarthy, then-the coordinators. It’s not McCarthy’s fault that we pay him $6,000,000/year. That’s Murphy’s fault. His little social welfare management structure is an unmitigated failure and it’s hurting the team and the fans.

There is no doubt that the Packers have been shooting their feet off. But 3 plays have really impacted our season so far.

First the terrible the roughing passer call on CM3 in the Vikings game. Next is Monty's KO return and fumble against the Rams and third Jones' fumble against the Pats. Take those away and this team could be 7-3.

The game in Seattle started well but became a mess long before the final possession covered in the article.
The missed FG by Crosby, the holding call on the 55 yard KO return, the block in the back by ESB on Jones' 18 yard run and the ridiculous PI by Raven Greene giving the Seachickens a 48 yard gain and ruining a strong defensive effort.

Add in some poor judgement by AR and here we are with no margin for error. Aaron has taken a lot of heat on this site for his play but he cannot be expected to overcome all the other mistakes, penalties, poor coaching and stupid plays made by the rest of the team. Yes, we have come to expect him to carry the team through everything as he did from 2009 until his injury in 2017 but physically and mentally he hasn't been able to do it this season and no one on the field has stepped up to pick him up or provide any support, as usual with this team.

Over the remaining 6 games Rodgers is not going to be able to overcome having just one of his starting WRs. Allison is gone, Graham is gone and who knows when Cobb is returning. The reality is that the combination of Nelson, Cobb and Adams was and is better than the combination of Adams, MVS and ESB.
Maybe Tonyan can emerge at TE and hopefully MVS continues to improve but that won't be enough to make up for the injuries to the receiving corp, a porous OL, especially at Guard and a weak running game.

The defense has been decimated by injuries again and who knows who will be available to play in the Vikings game. Fackrell and Alexander won't be able to stop the Vikings offense with all of their weapons. Hopefully Daniels and Clark can play. I'm not sure who is left in the secondary after Alexander.

Let's not forget that our Special Teams are a complete fiasco. Missed FGs, stupid penalties on almost every return, a blocked punt, and if it wasn't for poor ball security we wouldn't have any.

I hate to give up on the season but I don't see how it will change dramatically enough to beat the Viqueens on the road. The first thing that the Queens will do is take away Jones and then Adams. That will leave the offense with nothing. They will collapse our guards with the pass rush and Rodgers will be running for his life again for most of the game as has happened all season so far. Hopefully I'm wrong but unless we pull a huge upset I think that we'll be playing for draft picks after the Vikings game. Will 6-9-1 get us a top 10 pick? Thanks, Since '61

In order for this team to improve, it needs:

1. A new head coach, offensive coordinator, ST coordinator, OL coach, QB coach and LB coach.

2. A new starting RT and RG.

3. Two new DL, one of which is a starter.

4. Two new OLB, one of which is a starter.

5. Two new safeties, one of which is a starter.

6. Someone to push Crosby for the starting kicker position.

7. A legitimate backup QB to replace Rodgers some day.

8. Better team depth at most positions.

With the salary cap space and draft picks Gutekunst will have at his disposal in 2019, many of the player upgrades should be possible. As to the coaching changes, that will apparently be up to Murphy so I have no idea if those are possible.

1. No 2. RT -Yes. RG -Yes + New C/G backup. Pin Rodgers in the pocket. Crush the guards. Picks 3,4,4. 3. 2 New DL I doubt this happens. 4. Yes cut Perry. 5. Jones will become Burnett in Time. Williams is doing good! Free agency pick ups here. ( 2 and be quick! ) I wouldn't draft this position. 6. Yes Rd. 5 7. Yes/No depends if you get the best of the lot. Danica could be the reason he has trouble on the road. A woman in your house while your Gone? Or to much viagra at home? 8. Depth RB. Question If Frackwell isn't long term trade Him?

This draft appears to be loaded with DL3T prospects. We can probably wait to use NO's first on that area. It would be useful if our first round pick was good enough to nab an Edge prospect without having to trade up.

A long but accurate list. I might quibble about RT (Bulaga/Spriggs) and would add depth at ILB to the list but a very good starting point for Gute.

I would hope Gute could get at least a starting safety and starting RG in free agency. We need veteran experience in both places, not talented but mistake prone youth.

A weak running game is definitely a self-inflicted wound.

I've never known you to be this pessimistic. If it will cheer you up, I think we're good for 7 wins or if we're lucky, 8, due to a weak remaining schedule (except for MN and CHI). One thing we know is that the Packers can beat bad teams--but not mediocre or certainly good ones. This is the perfect opportunity for the rookie receivers to gain experience. Hopefully they will be taught to come back for the ball if AR is in trouble--that is, if he decides to throw it to them instead of lobbing it deep.

Exactly! Having been lucky enough to watch the Lombardi era Packers I never expected the collapse and following darkness to last for as long as it did. My concern is that our Packers are due for change whether it is moving on from MM and/or several veteran players.

Our 25+ year run of success can't continue forever. As it is we may already be in the 2nd season of a downturn.

The flip side is that in this era of free agency we can turn the turn around quickly. We have no choice but in Gute we trust. Thanks, Since '61

Only reason GB’s running game is weak is due to lack of commitment and attempts. Seems easily rectified, but not by MM. He’s not going to change his stripes.

So you condemn the rookies? They are the best rookie WR’s that the Packers have had for decades! I’m tired of this narrative. You’re the all world QB! Lead and make it work. Make the young guys better instead of this “poopy pamper” drama that I have to watch every week. Having fun win or lose can’t be that difficult. #12 makes an institutional amount of compensation to play a game. Under the worst of circumstances, he has to enjoy his gig more than %99 of us a fans. Man up, lead, play better, and for God’s sakes look like you are having a bit of fun! What is there to lose and you may actually energize some of the rooks! This whole constipated demeanor is unprofessional and contagious on a football team. Get over yourself. #12 is arguably one of the most talented QB’s to EVER play the game. He makes a metric **it ton of money. Why the hell the poor attitude and aloof play.? Man up and be better, win or lose. That’s what true leadership is. Ego and any compulsive internal standard does not empower those around you. Sort it out and be the phenom that we all know you can be, period.

The leader on the field is Arron Rodgers. Accountability starts with ones own Actions. Until Arron starts being A-Rod the leader. (And his play shows it.) This team is not going anywhere. Accountability by any of the staff is unfair. If A-Rod can play well at home, but can't play on the road. I believe that is personal problems. The link in the chain is broken. A-Rod has changed. His worse games are on the road. The options of getting rid of MM/staff, are not going to help A-Rod. It will only get worse. He won't like the next coach either. (Especially if he gets in his face and doesn't put A-Rod 1st. ) His friends are leaving. And the packers are making big changes. Changes that impact everyone and how their coached.

A great trade suggestion. I’d just do it for the picks and use all the millions the Packers would have to build a ferocious defense. Then all you need is a new young QB like Kizer or Boyle who just has to be a game manager on offense. It be interesting anyways if they’d ever consider doing it. Beats what we are watching now every week while The Vikings and the Bears have already moved ahead in the North division. With Rodgers this team is just going nowhere close to a SB. It’s been eight years now.

Maybe Gute needs to pay Rodgers more? I hope we will have enough cap space to field a whole team. Remember the reason for extending and overpaying a declining quarterback was because of how great he was? We only had 4 years left on the old contract(including franchise tags). Remember all the gudos for our new GM? He talked our management into paying the largest NFL salary in history to a declining, old and unhappy player.......

GB and the screwed up management structure has no backbone. Our problem is NOT young player mistakes. Our problem is a poorly coached offense and poorly coached special teams.

So I am taking a poll. How do you feel about the execution of the offense. Are you:

That's right go ahead and blame everything on the only player that has made this team relevant for the past 12 years. He has carried this team on his back and made every true Packer fan cheer through every one of them. Now you want to dump on him. Many of you did the very same thing two years ago asking for him to be traded and for Hundley to start. Well, you got to see that shite show last year. I guess that is what you want again. I suppose it was AR that committed multiple penalties that cost the team excellent field position on several occasions. I suppose it was AR that chose not to challenge a obvious incompletion or to punt on 4th and 2 with 4 minutes left. I suppose it was AR that gave up 27 points. Almost every game the offense has to score over 30 points to win a game, why is that? But it's AR's fault if they loose because they didn't score enough. Yes, he made some bad plays, everyone of them do. How the he** do any of you know that he is changing the play from run to pass, are you in the huddle? But you are accusing him of it. This QB is playing hurt and not a damn one of you know how bad and how this is impacting his play. He is taking that risk because it's the only option they have to even have a shot, but you want to dump on him. You are not Packer fans, I am and have been for over 50 years. I would imagine that AR is tired of the coaching and front office expecting him to carry this team and not providing any help. Look there if you want to blame someone.

Wishful thinking, almost magical thinking, Dash. Remember, this is a team that saved a roster spot for Fightin' Joe Callahan. The advantage Boyle has now is he hasn't been on the field enough to suck. My guess is he'll never see the field as a starter in the NFL.

As so many have said, 12 needs to be coached by someone he respects. For a time, Tom Clements was that guy, and to an extent so was Alex Van Pelt. Does Steve Young still call 12 to tuck him into bed at night? Aaron can't be oblivious to what he is doing that is hurting the team. Someone has to be pointing out the emperor has no clothes. It is unfathomable the QBs can sit in the quarterback room can watch film and NOT see what is happening. The salt of the earth Pennsylvania native / talking bicep McCarthy brought in as QB coach obviously isn't the solution. I don't know who is, but somewhere is a QB coach 12 will respect and a head coach who can rein 12 in.

Favre hurt the team by playing with that injured thumb. His disrespect for Sherman hurt the team. He became larger than life, the private locker, the private lunches, the fame etc. Rodgers in in the same place. He is an extraordinary talent with many good years left. He just needs direction.

I agree with you on Rodgers needing direction and someone he respects. There's only one guy and that is Ted Tedford. If he continues on as he is now he no doubt will turn into a bitter angry old guy just like Brett Favre was in his last couple seasons. Out of control and totally entitled from years of media and fan ass kissing.

I like Tim Boyle. He has all the physical skills especially the incredible arm strength. Throws a perfect deep ball almost everytime in stride. Perfect for the future with MVS. I was impressed with what I saw this preseason. I love his long term potential and I predict he'll take over for Rodgers in two more years. Rodgers will not make it to 40 like Favre and Brady. He will retire from the fortune Packers fans gave him. He needs mega money now that he's part owner of the Bucks. God, the Packers are so stupid giving him that contract.

We have a large enough sample size to know the identity of the 2018 Packers:

- Heavily penalized (8 per game)

- Clock mismanagement and wasted timeouts galore

- Occasionally explosive, but erratic offense (ranked #7 for total offense)

- Poor 3rd down execution and play calling

- Poor special teams play (ranked 24th by Football Outsiders)

- Misusage of key players (i.e. Aaron Jones)

- Individuals complaining to the media (Haha Clinton-Dix, Josh Jones)

- until recently, shockingly healthy for the most part

- glaring lack of depth at safety, ILB, OLB and offensive line

No one should really be surprised by anything up to this point. -- Many have stated that this is a transition to better things in season 2019. -- Many have said that MM needed to go last season along with Capers. etc. -- Many said Gute needed more control & Murphy less say in football matters. -- All of this should have happened in January of 2018. -- It will all happen (now) in January of 2019.

I don't blame AR. -- He'll be reinvigorated (& completely healthy) with a new and competent HC in season 2019. -- The whole team along with the fan base will be reinvigorated next season. --- In fact, NFL MVP 2019 will be wearing G&G.

I almost wonder if having 12 is a detriment to any new coaching prospects. For all the criticism he takes (much of which is deserved) MM DID rein in 4 when he took over. I think the new guy will have the same task with 12.

I agree TK. If you recall in the movie Rambo, John J. would not listen to anyone except one man and that was Col. Trautman. Aaron Rodgers is now a rogue Rambo firing passes all over the place doing whatever he pleases with no one able to stop him. Who out there can reign him in? Who is Rodgers' Col. Trautman? In my opinion there's only one guy and his name is Ted Tedford. I know people hate to say Ted and especially saying it twice but this is where we are in 2018. It's Teddy Tedford or bust. I doubt Ted would keep Mike Pettine. We are really screwed. Probably best to trade Rodgers and start fresh with Tim Boyle.

We should not trade AR. Were we to do so, looks like $46M dead and a negative $19.5M cap savings, assuming we traded AR before a massive $13.4M roster bonus is due sometime 2019. 2020 is somewhat better but still awful with $33.5M dead and a negative $900K cap savings.

Basically, any remaining signing bonus (which is usually spread out over the life of the contract) is counted all at once at the time of the trade.

@JimR. The short answer on traded players is the team that pays the player has to count that amount on the cap. Any money that the current team has not yet paid to a player can be traded to the acquiring team, and the acquiring team has to pay that money and count it on the acquiring team's cap. Teams can prorate signing bonuses over the length of the contract, for as long as the player remains on the team up to five years. If the player is no longer on the team (Cut, traded or released), bonuses already paid count immediately. Usually signing bonuses are paid immediately, but if any is deferred, that deferred portion can be traded and has to be paid by and counted against the cap by the acquiring team. If the bonus has already been paid, then all remaining prorations accelerate immediately onto the trading team's cap, usually. It doesn't matter if money is guaranteed or not: if it has already been paid, the trading team has to count it on its cap and if not paid the money is counted by the acquiring team.

Handy example: if a player has earned a $500K work out bonus but GB hasn't yet paid it, GB can trade that player and the new team has to both pay it and count the $500K against its cap.

I think Rodgers is finally fed up with carrying Mccarthy. He was not happy with both his QB coach and jordy being released. I don't think he is thrilled with his new QB coach or his new receivers. Where is Kumerow? I know. ..IR. But why isn't he on the roster. Rodgers raved about him early on. He was not happy with the flow of the game being interrupted with the RBC being employed by Mccarthy and Aaron Jones still not being used for periods of the game. He is not happy with the play calls at different points of the game. I remember him making quite the compliment towards Pettin and a motivational speech he gave to the team early on. ..has he ever said the same about Mccarthy? I think Aaron is finally fed up with Mccarthy and is gonna let MM sink or swim on his own this season and he is not going to bail him out. Things are not right with Rodgers this season and I don't believe it's because of his knee injury. He played lights out the night he injured the knee. I believe there is more to it than that

As Hamlet would say: Something is rotten in the state of Packerland. Both team and fans are searching for an explanation. Is the struggles because of MM or some of the other coaches, Rodgers, offense/defence as a whole or single players at the different positions??
I don't want to speculate why, but hope the coaches and players do and then act to correct it. Use all the psychologists they have to get the mindset right and WIN!!!

Because McCarthy likes to save things like little trinkets he keeps in a box hidden under his bed and if the moon is just right he pulls out the box only for a moment to take a peak and then closes the lid and pushes the box very secretively back under the bed.

Nice overview of the season so far. This season is reminding me of the 2008 season more and more. Injuries are starting to catch up with this team with having to play more rookies now later in the season. I wish I could explain Rodgers, like most folks here on CHTV, I'm puzzled. Say what you want to about McCarthy, but this team plays hard, for the most part they execute the game plan, and the most important part; they have not quit. That says a great deal about Mike McCarthy as head coach. As for the rest, we will just to wait and see how the rest of this season plays out.

Since this is a transition year, how do we measure up vs. our NFC North rivals in 2019?

Bears:
They don't have any major FAs for 2019. The main ones they'll want to re-sign include RT Bobby Massie, SS Adrian Amos, CB Bryce Callahan and maybe DE Aaron Lynch. Even in 2020, they only have to worry about Danny Trevathan and Cody Whitehair (G/C).

The Bears traded their 2019 1st and 2nd rd picks, so they will not pick until the 3rd rd.

Vikings:
Key FAs include Sheldon Richardson, Latavius Murray, Anthony Barr, Marcus Sherels, Dan Bailey, Nick Easton, Tom Compton and Tom Johnson.

Lions:
Ziggy Ansah, Eli Harold, LeGarrette Blount, Luke Wilson, Kerry Hyder, TJ Jones and Bruce Ellington.

This all started in the preseason games when McCarthy refused to play his starting offense more than a handful of snaps. Not that I love the preseason games however; With the NFL limiting practices and Rodgers coming off the major injury, A new offensive coordinator and a new quarterback coach. The Packers offense has been searching for their identity all season and have never found it, this is on McCarthy.
Big Mike has been dealing with an obviously frustrated Superstar quarterback who absolutely hates this offensive system and McCarthy has no answers or adjustments to get them out of their funk.
The Packers have always been a slow starting team for the most part under McCarthy.
The Packers offense has usually been able to hit their stride after five or six games but that hasn’t happened this year and it’s going to cost big Mike his job.
BANG!

My crystal ball predictions:
Quatrain 19: After another losing season Mark Murphy turns complete control of the Packers football operations over to Gutekunst.

Murphy goes back to focusing on purchasing the remaining real estate within a 10 mile radius of the stadium for future plans of turning it into a bush Garden like theme park and wax museum

Within one week Gutekunst fires Mike McCarthy

McCarthy is immediately hired by the Cleveland Browns

After an intensive search and many months of speculation he hires Mike Pettine
as Head Coach

McCarthy in his first year at Cleveland leads to Brown’s to the playoffs

The Packers finish seven and nine

The Bears win the Super Bowl In 2020

BANG !

9-7. They have a tie. The bears don't have enough to win it. Dallas goes after MM. The entire staff should be replaced if it happens. The new coach will be a friend of A-Rods. The packers draft defense again. Forget a new QB. As much as it would be a good move. A-Rod will poison him. Not help him. Remember how Favre was suppose to help A-Rod. Anybody see him helping Kizer? A-Rod is sitting alone more. Replacing a coach in a rebuild , will get your name changed to the Detroit Lions. I felt the Seahawks were lucky. The old saying is you can't beat Luck. This season takes me back to the 70s-80s early 90s. Friends and I would watch the Pack, and if they scored we celebrated like they’d won, and if they won it was like a Super Bowl victory. I’ll never forget when my best friend said to me, in the midst of a lot of brews and some forgettable Packer Game: “Look at it this way, no matter how f&&$ed up your life seems to you now, it’s still better than being a Packer”.

Oh, I remember those day well Jamie. That is exactly how it was. An 8-8 year was considered the super bowl if you were a Packers fan. It's why 1989 was still to this day my favorite and most memorable season. 10-6. To get a double digit in wins was unthinkable to me and then it finally happened. I'll never forget that "Majik" year.

Back in the 70s and 80s we had a groups of friends that would get together every Sunday to watch the Packers. Our rule was, we'd watch the game until the Packers were out of it and then we'd play poker the rest of the afternoon. Many Sundays, we were playing cards before the end of the first quarter, but the game was still on and we'd cheer every good play and the occasional touchdown.

Back then, it wasn't cool to be a Packers fan. But we wore our team attire proudly for the whole day, regardless the outcome of the game.

In 2005, Sherman pretty much let Favre do whatever he wanted to do. It was a sandlot like season at 4-12.

In 2006, MM demanded Favre play within the system and run the plays given to him and follow the game plan. The team went 8-8 and went to the NFC Championship game the next year and missed the SB due to an awful INT at game's end.

Has MM morphed into Mike Sherman? It seems his future HOF QB is making a lot of decisions pre snap and changing plays. He is not making good checks and or plays. #12 needs more discipline and MM needs to simply the game plan (more balance in run pass) and demand he follow it.
