As long as you give as much weight to the hits as you do to the misses, I think your B+ grade (assuming the grade is from A+ to F-) is very fair. I might grade him as a B, which is still 3 steps above average. (C+, B-, B). I am satisfied to have him as GM. I'd say less than a handful of GMs are better, so a B grade is tough grading.

grade D.
Draft: gutey will always be remembered for that infamous draft night in April 2020. that draft costed the packers millions and May Be a SB berth. The communication management was terrible, he ruined the relationship with his HOF QB and with many fans.
On top of that he has been missing talent in the first round for many years.

Roster: full of average players. few real stars. A lot, too much, overpaid players. Enormous dead money.

People management: terrible. this skill Is completely missing, he manages people as they were cars or cheese or clothes. no empathy, no vision.

Legacy: very bad, people will always think we could have had Schneider or Wolf as GM

How could we have had Schneider? And how do you know Wolf would be better?

Schneider grew up in the Packers front office. WE let him go.
Wolf Just went to SB.

Not a comment on the podcast content, just the thumbnail graphic. Is it just me, or does this really look like the question is whether Gute has a… err… well-proportioned posterior? Pretty sure that wasn’t the intention, but now it’s all I can see.

Are you suggesting that Gutey has a broad background? Lol

Well played, but I suggest nothing. It’s just what the graphic says to me!

One needs to factor in the non-competitive North for many of those wins- The Lions have only been competitive for 4 years, the Bears 1-2 years and the Vikes 3-4.
And, Gute has been a GM for 8 years and both Lines are weak by any standard, same with corner room.
If one compared him with Schneider or Wolf, his grade would not be a B+.

Agreed that at CB in both trenches we're weak. Of the three, I think improving the O line would contribute to wins the most. While recovery from ACL tears has become routine, Zach Tom's not so much. We have a lot riding on his return to 100% ....

As Gute is not permitted to hire the head coach, unlike Ron Wolf or Ted Thompson, it would be unfair to hold him entirely responsible for the inability of the Packers to reach a Super Bowl.

As Wolf and Thompson led the Pack to Super Bowl wins in their 5th and 6th seasons as GM respectively, and Gute is now in year 9, it is fair to point out he has just not been as good a GM as they were.

Gute is what he is, not a failure, at the very least competent, but hardly a star.

What letter grade equates to 7th best among the 16 teams in the NFC?

B-?

Though I don't think MLF is adequate, he does not attend the Combine nor do we know what kind of input he has re: roster choice. I get the impression Gute 'falls in love' with certain players, particularly early-rounders and talks himself into seeing something other GMs do not. He has needed more push-back from the Packer's scout team as there were way too many 'fantasy' picks while a more appropriate choice was over-looked., Creed Humphrey, Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Cooper de Jean, Jaxson SN, and many more come to mind.

Draft and develop is dead. Not sure how much of that is on Gutey vs MLF vs the rest of the coaching staff, but GM & HC seem out of sync.

How is draft and develop dead? You watch Bullock improve to the point they didn’t really need Hobbs? Zach Tom, Watson, Doubs, Reed, Kraft, Jenkins all drafted and developed into starters and some into high quality starters. They developed a 7th round draft pick to play LT and he did very well for where he was drafted. Seems to me the coaches have plenty of input into what kind of players they need.

A good job performance review by A.H. Translated into a report card - I have assigned the following drafting grades ( based on hits and misses)

Day 1 picks - 33%
Day 2 picks - 55%
*Day 3 picks - 80%
So overall drafting average 56%.

With above average free agent and trade grades - Gutekunst's overall grade would improve. Possibly a C+ to B (70%-76%).

*Roughly 15% to 20% of Day 3 NFL draft picks (Rounds 4–7) eventually become regular starters in the league. Gutekunst's Day 3 hit rates is approximately 30%.

I see no adjustment for where GB picks in each round.

I did not do a bell curve adjustment. Nor nuanced measurements. Just a cursory hit-miss / thumbs-up - thumbs-down evaluation. My stats prof. would have had a lot to say about my work and methodology. However the main purpose of this exercise was to flesh out Gutekunst's drafting strengths and weaknesses.

many people point to the Packers organization strutture, Gute is one into a 4 man top management. that was Murphy choice and Policy incredibly confirmed It (that Is why he looks very weak).
So Gute has not all the power of a normal GM, but he accepted It for 9 years in a row.
So he Is weak and this can no more be an excuse.

Sincerely I was shocked Policy confirmed that strutture, that Is a total failure for him.
