I read an article suggesting T'Vondre Sweat-DT Tennessee, doesn't fit new coach Robert Saleh very successful defensive ideas. Saleh has been on record saying he does not like "Gargantuan" D-linemen. He wants big/fast vs huge/slow.

Every time a new coaching staff takes over somewhere; some good players don't fit what they like to do. Good teams take advantage and trade for those players at greatly reduced prices. I also read that Sweat's practice commitment was lacking. Jeffrey Simmons, who was a problem child coming out of college, actually took swat under his wing to make him a better player.

If this rumor has any truth to it, GB should be calling and trying to trade for him. A 2nd round pick is too high but, it would be worth as high as a 3rd round pick to grab a plug and play NT. Throw in 1 of our backup DTs as a sweetener, just not Nazir Stackhouse. Sweat would 100% fit what we need to stop the run, and would be like getting a guaranteed to succeed player in the draft, which is almost never the case.

Update on what to trade for Sweat. I listened to a guy who claims to being the Titans biggest podcaster to talk about T'Vondre Sweat. The guy seems very knowledgeable and thinks the Titans would be lucky to get a 4th round pick back for Sweat, more likely a 5th. That would be hard to not say yes for either pick, it would be like getting a younger, cheaper, better version of the DT we lost last year, Slayton.

Money will be the biggest factor in an chance of a free agent signing. The best low money move we could make would be signing Calais Campbell. The ageless wonder would have been our best interior lineman the last 2 years. He still gets 40-50 tackles per year and still manages to get 1/2 dozen sacks too. His projected salary is shockingly low for the production he brings. Maybe Gannon could convince him to come to GB. This would be best case scenario to fill a gigantic hole with a gigantic man, and it would buy us a year on having to draft one early since we are pick and cash strapped this year.

Realistically, GB probably wouldn't be able to spend more than $5 million on a FA DT. That probably rules out Kenny Clark, who will probably still see $9-10 million per year after the solid season he had in Dallas.

Signing Campbell, or trading for D'Vondre Sweat for no more than a 3rd round pick, or draft Tim Keenan-DT Alabama in round 3 would be our best options to fix DT this year.

Campbell will cost too much for a guy who will one day just be too old to play. Look for a young guy who had a hard time cracking the lineup because of players ahead of him. A Preston Smith type of move.

I don't know Bucky. Campbell made $5.5 million last year with incentives. He made 43 tackles and had 7 SACKS last year. That's 4 sacks from an interior DT. And he has only missed 5 games in the last 5 years, none the last 3. He could easily play 2 more years because he doesn't seem to be slowing down. What if he signed 2 years for $8 million. Would that be worth it?
