For some years i've been talking about Rashan underperforming,

First, in relation to his draft status (See Lukas Van Ness).

Then for the huge contract Gute gifted him, coupled with the lack of 'Return on Investment' for that contract.
*********
I mostly got railed for what i said.
Earned myself a lot of rebuke and (GULP) thumbs down....lol
*******
So bring us to present day and what do we have. Nearly everyone is saying what i said in the past.
So for all those who attacked me....EAT A D...!

I'm with you, '75!
It seems honesty always gets you lots of 'Thumbs Downs' with "The Packers can do no Wrong" crowd.
They'd rather live in their fantasy world than face the slap in the face reality!
Kinda' looks like it working again today!

I'd like to see LVN & Gary on the inside with #1 and any combination of everyone else we've got on the end, and it seems to me that Coz might be the best of those. I'm not talking every down here, but I wonder if they could be effective like that.

The latest from Mike Whale is must listen, especially re: player development.

Amazing how that works isn't it - I was the same way with Jaire Alexander and many others. Ohhh the push back - Perennial All Pro gonna be a HOF'er like Leroy Butler (please), Mr. Shut Down until he wasn't and couldn't stay on the field with his 12 Career Int's. When he was injured, as he was often, it was the over riding reason our secondary was under performing - never mind the fact that he avoided tackling like a Vampire with Garlic. It is shocking how that worm turns especially with the players that are huge self promoters.

I remember someone from a site down the hall who had that viewpoint almost right from the start of the Gary experiment in Green Bay.

I always pretty much agreed with those viewpoints as well.

Rashan plays hard with a great attitude but the results are just not there. Even with Parsons on the field always taking a double team Gary seems to never get to the QB.

No he doesn’t. He dogs it on a lot of plays. Watch film of him and then Parsons or Bosa or Watt and look at the difference.

Same as when he was at Michigan . Overrated and Gute fell for it . All my friends who are Michigan fans could not believe we picked him that high in the draft . They watched hiim every week and knew we made a mistake .

Michigan fan here.. I agree absolutely. Do these college scouts bother to watch the games or just listen to the hype.

I understand what nygary is saying.

He 'almost gets there'.
Been doing that for years.
**********
egbertsouse....also makes a very valid point.

Those who watch the game, i mean really watch it, see Gary pull up and dog it if he isn't 'right there' to make a play.

How would Parsons look pairing with Brian Burns, or Montez Sweat? Read' em and weep.

That, and now if he's healthy enough, we'll get to see what Oliver has to offer as a pass rusher.
Let's hope he's 'As Advertised'!

I'd love to see Oliver become a force, I just wonder if the size in today's game dooms that. Hybrid LB / DB seems like a better fit. We've also got a WR on the PS that's almost halfway to a light TE at 6'4" 218# at the combine, Neyor.

Gary = 12th overall draft pick in 2019. Overdrafted, overrated, and overpaid in Green Bay. But he has 7.5 sacks in 2025 and over 40 in his career. Gary was a disappointment but certainly not a bust.

Van Ness = 13th overall draft pick in 2023. Overdrafted and overrated. He has 1.5 sacks in 2025 and 8.5 sacks in his 3 years in Green Bay. LVN is on his way to being Gutey's worst 1st round pick. A certifiable bust.

I get all the criticism being directed at Gary, but why does LVN seem to be getting a free pass from Andy Herman and the rest of the Packer press?

Is it because LVN went to Iowa and Gary played at Michigan? Because LVN wears a number in the 90s and Gary wears #52?

If LVN was able to play the same amount of games/snaps, I believe the criticism would be difficult to tell which is about whom.

But doesn't Andy give most Packer players a pass.

Gary makes me want Nick Perry back, and I always said Perry was a bust for GB, but Perry did make a better appearance against the lesser OL's, occasionally.

Perry also once had 12.5 sacks in a season (when he wanted a new contract that declining Ted stupidly gave him).

Heck, Kyler Fackrell put up 10.5 sacks in his third season in GB and Gary has not done that once in 7 seasons while LVN does not have 10.5 sacks combined in his 3 years in GB.

I'm not one to call for people's jobs, but if #0 is used only as a slot and is kept off the field when #11 is on it that's a crime against football. Have #0 9 & 11 on the field at the same time! This is more than merely "speed kills," it would give JL10 a chance to adjust to that much speed and he might start throwing to them at top speed and in stride, instead of making them wait for the ball and allowing coverage to catch up.

This is Captain Obvious Territory .

Strat's picture

December 23, 2025 at 11:00 am

When he was drafted, a comment I heard more than once from college football coaches was "He can be as good as he WANTS to be," and that's what I see. It's only when he wants to be, which doesn't seem to be very often.

Like the words "Potential" and "Raw." Neither seems to pan out very often.

Packers seem to like to draft on potential instead of performance. Creating development projects. Don't understand it.

Strat....when he got drafted, he sat there and blubbered like a baby.
He knew he won the lottery.

He was recruited to college on potential.
He was over drafted to the NFL on potential.
Gute gifted him his last contract (lottery #2) on potential.

Gute isn't the draft guru some kool aid drinkers make him out to be, when you sober up and put the glasses on.

Snap the ball's picture

December 23, 2025 at 12:14 pm

No he holds the edge

He’s not a slender taller d end

He’s built different. He contains the edge so others can clean up

He plays the best in the playoffs

Healthy is the key To play in the playoffs

Line him up at middle linebacker with Van ness in front

Have Gary rush

Van ness drop backn

Gary gets a big contract and now dogs it! This seems to happen with some players. Gutes is just terrible in picking Dline in the first and second rounds. Gary and LVN are below average and our starting CBa couldn't start for any other team. How does Gutes still have a job? Oh, yeah. Mark Murphy...

"How does Gutes still have a job? Oh, yeah. Mark Murphy..." And now Policy. Everyone protecting Gutekunst.

As to Gary, he's just an average player. Being paid for more than that.
