Interesting discussion.
One thing that struck me is that of Detroit. Did anyone really think their O had declined simply because we beat them? The Lions O is largely unchanged and it’s very powerful IF Goff has time. We beat them because he didn’t and even when he did, didn’t feel he had it. That has always been who Goff is and thus what their O is.
Their OL isn’t as good, but it’s been good enough since game one to give him all day to allow plays to develop and throw from a secure pocket. The results have been what I would expect. That doesn’t change the fact that we were able to stop him and, if we or others can in coming weeks, how different that makes them look.
Of course, they are still likely to score more than the Browns and we won that game in part because of the 1 1/2 quarters of good O we have produced this year. It also got us well ahead and probably took Montgomery off the field. The big question at this point is not whether we can get to Goff again, but when we meet next, can we at least replicate that early offensive success? So far we haven’t over the succeeding 10 quarters.
