The Green Bay Packers are preparing for Malik Willis to start in their home opener at Lambeau Field on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. While Matt LaFleur hasn't officially ruled out Jordan Love, it's hard to believe Love will be healthy by September 15th.

Jordan Love is expected to be sidelined for 3 to 6 weeks. He could return as early as Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams or by Week 8 at Jacksonville. However, Green Bay is optimistic that he will be back sooner rather than later.

With that in mind, Malik Willis will likely lead the Packers' offense against the Colts, Titans, and Vikings. In college, Willis threw for 48 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, while also rushing for over 2,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. Willis has completed just over 50 percent of his passes in the NFL, with 3 interceptions and no touchdowns. On the ground, he averages 4.5 yards per carry.

Matt LaFleur will need to adjust the playbook for the rest of the month, as Willis' playing style is very different from Love's. Love is more of a pocket passer who can also hurt defenses with his legs. Willis, on the other hand, is a purely mobile quarterback who has struggled when forced to make plays from the pocket.

Willis will be forced to make plays from the pocket, but Green Bay can simplify things with quick-developing plays, allowing him to rely on his playmakers. Last season, Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, and Dontayvion Wicks ranked in the top 15 among rookies in yards after the catch, which could help ease the pressure on Willis.

One area that could benefit from Willis' mobility is the running game. The Packers averaged 7.8 yards per rush last Friday night. With a quarterback who can constantly threaten with his legs, defenses are forced to second-guess at the line of scrimmage. Expect the Packers to incorporate a good amount of zone reads into their game plan for the rest of September.

Green Bay's coaching staff will certainly stress to Willis the importance of taking high-percentage plays. Since the Aaron Rodgers era, the Packers have consistently ranked among the best in avoiding turnovers. Last year, Love had the 12th-lowest turnover-worthy play percentage among 29 quarterbacks with at least 300 dropbacks. LaFleur has always emphasized that winning the turnover battle is crucial to winning games, and the Packers must be flawless in this area to give Jordan Love a chance to return to a team with a solid record.

Willis is not exactly a top 10 backup quarterback in the NFL right now. However, he will benefit from playing under a great offensive mind and within an effective scheme. He doesn't need to be great or even good; if he can manage the offense and keep the football out of harm's way, the Packers will have a chance to win on Sundays.
