Gut Reactions: Packers shrink from the spotlight in loss to the Buccaneers

Aaron gives his gut reactions to the Packers loss to the Buccaneers.

  • Ultimately, it's beyond frustrating, but...hey, maybe don't put yourself in that position? Don't fumble. Don't throw interceptions. Don't give up absurd end-of-half-TDs. Packers did this to themselves.
  • MVS got a lot of shit this year but he's one of the few guys who came to play today
  • Maybe there's something to Rodgers not playing well on this.
  • Rough game from Billy Turner but he rallied.
  • Interesting time to call defensive holding.
  • That said, Packers should never have been in that position.
  • I still love this team.
  • Go Pack Go.

Hurting bad, the bottomless Coors Lights at my disposal and low budget strippers may help heal the deep wounds.

"Maybe there's something to Rodgers not playing well on this."

Anybody who blames Rodgers for this los should not have a football column.
He's been dragging a 6-10-type team to contender status almost his whole career - this year may have been 8-8 talent at best.

When did Davante come up big today? I like Lazard, but not only was he held on the INT, but the ball still went right through his hands. And when he had lots of room to run with the ball down the middle, he got about 3 yards and was brought down by a much smaller DB.

ESB? You kidding me? Right in the breadbasket.

But let's throw shade at Rodgers who was much better than Brady today. Switch QBs and TB wins by 17 minimum.

Yes this has been the case with Arod all his life. He has to play great every game even if was iffy we are doomed against good teams. Coming to Adams yes he was very off today missed some easy catches but Arod still went to him.
Jones fell flat in the biggest stage fumbling the ball twice and getting hurt.

he could win a SB in NO or TB if Brady retires; he won't get a better chance in GB...remember...Favre only got 1 there too...SAD :-(

This team would be super bowl bound if they had a pass defense.
1. Other teams thought, wow the Niners ran the crap out of the ball thats how you beat them.
2. Teams that found the running tough went to the pass and found success but it was too late, Rodgers had put up too many points.
IMO I always thougt, teams that come out throwing early and often cause the pack the biggest problem. King, Savage, sullivan and Redmad are not speed demons who can both cover and tackle. They suck basically and they are your point stoppers??????????????????????????

Yes this is been my complaint all year long but many in this very site said that our secondary is elite etc etc. Coming to Arod that guy has to have nearly a perfect game to come with a win but today he was good but great and we lost.
Man this sucks to be loosing it that close and seeing our Qb year's gets wasted only adds fuel to the fire.

Savage is a ghost who cant tackle or cover. Alexander is ok but other teams know that and avoid hij. King is a total POS. Sullivan what div 11a team did he play for?
No this is a poor coverage, poor tackling, lack of speed defensive backfield and Rodgers should be screaming at the staff, lets get some bodies their or else

Thanks for all the great moments Aaron Rodgers....it's a shame that this organization with 1 HOF QB and 1 going in after retirement has only had 2 Super Bowl victories...TOTAL !!
They're obviously more interested in $$$ than SB victories...WE KNOW what Vince Lombardi would have said about this *&^%$#
Aaron should leave and go to NO or TB if Brady retires; he'll stand a better chance than GB :-(

Ummmmm......we have three quarterbacks in the hall of fame, and four Super Bowl wins in five appearances Plus the most NFL championships of any team. AR isn't going anywhere next year.

Worth mentioning that we played a team that was really good today.
The Bucs seemed exceptionally physical on defense, for one thing, and exceedingly fast to the ball.
That kind of defense forces mistakes big and little.
There's a little less room for comfort, a little less time to make decisions.
Amidst the ferocity and crunching hits, I was impressed with our offense for the most part in moving the ball.
Also, I was mostly pleased with our defense being as active and opportunistic as they were. The Bucs seemed to have some excellent play calls and some stellar execution.
Even our special teams came up with a couple of big tackles late in the game by Burks and Russell.
We fought hard all the way through, and came up a little short.
It hurts bad tonight; it may ache for days; and the pain may linger for weeks and months.
I asked my good wife for some space this evening to get over this real anguish of disappointment in silence.
However, I was really proud of the Packers today for their effort and execution.
No regrets!
I'm not saying we shouldn't strive for improvement, just asking for some perspective.
Can't wait for the first preseason game.

Yes, we had our chances, but the ending difference in the game was AN ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE play at the end of the 1st half...ONE OF THE GREATEST BLUNDERS DEFENSIVELY OF ALL TIME-IN ANY NFL GAME !!!
That SHOULD DEFINITELY end the carriers of Pettine and King in GB !!!!

So Aaron Rodgers finally gets the long awaited home NFC Championship game for the first time in 13 years, and with the world watching what is the first image of this glorious day at Lambeau Field in Heartland USA ? Our beloved Green and Gold not on the field, hands on their hearts, but boycotting the National Anthem most likely led by the vaunted Leadership Council. Maybe we should have spent more time concentrating on what to do on 4th down with 2 min left playing football instead of politics. Go count your millions, Vince would be hanging his head in shame.

Another miserable loss by the Pack in the NFC Championship game. I would not be a bit surprised if Rodgers demands a trade and retires if his demand is rejected (check out his post-game comments). He has carried this team as far as he can. The Packers organisation builds the team to contend for the play-offs, not the Super Bowl. If Rodgers continues to play, it will be with a true Super Bowl contender. Either way, I don't see him returning for more of the same old same old. I wish him all the best.

Wasn’t it funny when Kevin King got “shunned”for not being a first round pick.. He lost this game, two tds were his fault.. I really hope he’s out of the league in a few years after the pack releases him..

Poor show from the Packers today. They did not play their best. At home and in the NFCCG no less. That’s on the coaches, and to the degree that they lacked talent in key spots, the front office.

Special Teams needs new leadership. Kevin King is played through all the time; not just this week. Aaron Jones is brilliant against ordinary defence not so flash against really stout defence. We looked better once he was hurt. MLF appears to have found Mike Mc" cool aid; predictable play calling and no addressing off the short comings that were obvious last year Vs 49ers and this year Vs Bucks. We need a genuine No.2 wide receiver and a "slot guy" and a tackling coach. QB12 is still very good but not what he once was. Good season - sad end.

I'm also gutted.
Also mad at the zebras for letting Tampa Bay get away with defensive holding all game long as well as offensive holding.
Mad at Rodgers for being afraid to run it a couple of times it was there. I can understand being scared of getting crushed by Suh & White & company.
Mad at Kevin King the most. I've never liked that guy since before we passed on TJ Watt & picked him.
Mad at Chandon Sullivan for allowing back to back 3rd & longs on the Bucs opening drive.
Mad that we signed Tramon but still let shit like King, Sullivan, and Willy Redmond fail left & right.
Even Darnell Savage blew a prayer throw on 3rd & 13.
Bad execution in the gold zone by Rodgers & Davante early..... poor play calling.
ZaDarius & Preston & Gary didn't bring it.
Kenny Clark did.
Rodgers was pressured 20 times.
I bet Brady was only 4 or 5 times.

Rodgers played better overall than Brady but somehow Brady always gets the damn W.
Why couldn't he have gone to Miami dammit.

Another big problemo. The vikes have 5 new d backs with size, speed and cover ability that just went through learning process and next year will be shut down defenders. Were kind of two years behind now if we dumped King, Savage, Sullivan, Redmond and Williams. Not lookin good for the playoffs next year, the vikes arent going anywhere soon

Very tough loss... but i'd always prefer this kind of a lose than the last two NFC championship games when we didnt have a chance.

Before we demolish the franchise or blame the refs lets be clear we dont deserve to play the superbowl. We beat ourselves yesterday with our mistakes and they had a better gameplan. The difference in the game was Todd Bowles, he won the game for Tampa Bay. Neither in week 6 game or yesterday we had an answer for that front 7.

GB has been the best offense in the NFL because of their balance between the pass and the run. The key of Lafleur scheme is that every play personnel wise looks exactly the same so you never know if they were going to pass, run inside outside or PA. Our big plays have come most of all via play action.

Last week we ran for almost 200 yards. Today 64 yards in 16 attempts. You have to give them credit, it is the toughest team to run against in the NFL. We were not running easy in the first half and yes, pettine is a bad DC, kevin king is everything but a smart football player and we were down by double digits, but we were also able to force three
consecutives turnovers but they abandoned the run anyway. I think then is when we lose the game, because we abandoned our identity, we were playing their game.

As Nagler said. Hero ball. That was the gameplan all second half. Everybody split out wide and hope a WR wins a one on one. We couldnt stop their pass rush all night but they OL received no favor being let alone in empty formations. No run, no playaction... yes, they hold every play its a shame Pettine, King or Sullivan didnt knew how to do it without being flat out obvious.

Rodgers is amazing. But make no mistake, we were a 6-10 or 7-9 team when all the gameplan was for Rodgers to dropback 40 to 50 times a game and pray for the WR to win their one on one matchup. He is the best, but the latter is just not good football, is flat and easy for the defense even if Rodgers is the one throwing the football. To me that was the biggest disappointment yesterday.

Of course they should have go for it on 4th down, that was silly, but more important they should have run the damn ball at least once with 1st and goal in the 8 yard line. The best redzone offense maybe in history but they didnt even dare to run a single time in the red zone. Everybody knew it was going to be an intended pass to davante and if wasnt open the second or third read.

We are a great team, we are not close to win a championship. Lafleur is a great coach, i think hell learn from this game. With a competent DC, a nice LB and a CB the defense is going to be not good but very good next year. I seriously doubt Rodgers is going anywhere. If they learn from this game everything is going to be fine. Winning a superbowl is not easy. I think we are enjoying this team, lets not forget that

"Interesting time to call defensive holding"------it was DPI, not defensive holding....even though the ball was uncatchable....but stupid LaFleur didn't challenge...
