Day 9, Packers Training Camp: What Happened
Practice No. 9 is underway. House, Pearson, Biegel, Goodson, Sandland and M Adams not participating #PackersCamp pic.twitter.com/oF0d5i1m78

Brett Hundley practicing with 1s today. Pretty good sign Rodgers is not playing Thursday night. #Packers
— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) August 7, 2017
#Packers rookie DeAngelo Yancey with nice catch of high Brett Hundley pass. Yancey hit in air by CB Donatello Brown, but held on.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 7, 2017
#Packers experimenting with LaDarius Gunter in the slot. Wonder if that's a response to his struggles on the outside.
— Michael Cohen (@Michael_Cohen13) August 7, 2017
Derrick Mathews ends the first team session with a great hit on Phillips in the hole.
— Aaron Nagler (@AaronNagler) August 7, 2017
Another mixed bag from #Packers P Justin Vogel:
40 yards, 3.97 seconds
30, 4.41
49, 4.78
55, 4.77
32, 4.38
Some good, some not.— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 7, 2017
Dean Lowry does it again. Gets pressure, bats pass and Jake Ryan picks it off. Same thing happened on Saturday... https://t.co/1O3PPA4gIl

Aaron Rodgers, taking scout-team reps vs. #Packers first D, hits DeAngelo Yancey deep. Beat Quinten Rollins by a couple steps. Rough rep.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 7, 2017
Absurd throw from Rodgers who hits Crockett on a deep cross with Fackrell in coverage, who was actually in good position. Just no chance.
— Aaron Nagler (@AaronNagler) August 7, 2017
Another nice catch by Yancey on a rocket from Rodgers. Easily the rookie's most productive practice.
— Aaron Nagler (@AaronNagler) August 7, 2017
WR Michael Clark got behind Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on a deep pass from Rodgers. Clinton-Dix with a blatant hold to deny a potential diving grab.
— Michael Cohen (@Michael_Cohen13) August 7, 2017
Aaron Rodgers hard count draws #Packers OLB Johnathan Calvin offside. Rodgers exclaims, "Yeah, I got him!" as he backpedals. Midseason form.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) August 7, 2017
Rodgers tries to hit Dupre up the right sideline but good coverage by Gunter causes the incompletion.
— Aaron Nagler (@AaronNagler) August 7, 2017
Rodgers, playing MLB on scout, gives Davante Adams and Randall Cobb the business for not doing their jobs at corner and safety...
— Aaron Nagler (@AaronNagler) August 7, 2017
Brisk 1 hour and 45 minutes today for the #Packers. Another one in the books. pic.twitter.com/TRRedNPYTO

I love reading this stuff, ah Rodgers is in mid season form already.

Thought Rodgers didn't play enough in the preseason last year. I hope he takes a few more reps this year.

I thought Rodgers wasn't super
sharp at the beginning of 2016. I chalked it up to minimal preseason action. There is a downside to protecting him from injury.

That could have been it. But it also could have been that he didn't pull out of his slump until the Tennessee game. It had been over a year of a slump at that point, and we were questioning if he was going to ever pull out of it. He was bad through October. Well, bad for him anyway.

Of course, the article states absolutely nothing about the first 4 games of 2016. Those are stats over the course of his career. In fact, AR's first 4 games last year, at least for him, were lousy. Here are his stats:
78/139 (56.1%), 876 yds, (6.3 yds/att). 9TDs, and 3 of his 7 INTs;
Passer ratings: 95.1, 70.7, 129.3, 65.0.
However, the article does show that AR's first 4 games are fine over his career. So, someone would have to show that AR altered something in 2016, like playing less in the preseason than in his prior years. I suspect he did play less last preseason than in prior years, but I don't know it for a fact, and even if so I'm not sure how much less he played.

Yancey is a definite keeper. He's the next Allison.

Vogel's inconsistency is a concern. Maybe he can get settled by Week 1. Sounds like A. Rodgers is ready for the season. Sure would be great if the rest of the team could be ready for the season by the end of TC, especially the defense. We'll see. Thanks, Since '61

I look at it a different way....his poor punts are the average punts for last 2 punters we've had. His good punts are light years ahead of anythng they ever did....not concerned at all.

Nah, his poor punts are not the average punts for Schum and Masthay. Remember that it is summer and 75 degrees, and that Vogel has been punting in gorgeous weather w/o even much wind until today.
The 20 to 25% shank percentage is however, all too reminiscent of our previous punters.

You all forget one important thing - LS. He may contribute a lot to poor punts, if he did not send the ball properly...

The more I see the more I think there is a lot of truth to this.
I had no idea until yesterday that the long snappers were so good that they were able to put the laces where they wanted them. It can make a huge difference for where the laces are at.

Being brutally honest, I can't understand how a pro kicker that has such a specialized role, and practices that specific sequence day after day; how can there ever be a shank, let alone whole strings of inconsistency? Compare that to a QB who has so many technical aspects to perfect. Just don't understand kickers. I know the answers will be that its a mental thing, but my reply is going to be that they practice mechanics over and over....and I'll counter by saying....that for a relatively simple sequence of mechanics, it comes down to simply executing mechanics. Any kickers out there can help me out? Would really like to understand.

How would Aaron be perfect if, e. g. Corey, will snap ball in wrongly manner? Do you think about that?

I kicked all 4 years in High School, and two years in college. It never made any difference to me as long as the ball was held at the proper angle. This was back in the '80's...where the laces were etc. was never part of the conversation or a concern.
That said, I was kicking at a Div 3 college and had a max distance of 50 yards on a field goal....so maybe their "specialization" has something to it. The shanks that were apparent on Family night baffles me.

Think of it like when your golfing. If the ball is tee'd up to high or low can change the direction of the ball. if you hit to far back or aim to far forward it will change what happens with the ball.
There is a quite a bit that can change with the just the ball placement.

You ever golf? Just the sheer number of variables that goes into a kick can affect the trajectory/spin. Wind Speed, wind direction, hash mark, angle the ball is being held, turf conditions. Now factor in the actual kick of the leg... how hard to hit it, where on the ball to hit it.... I can keep going on but it's the same reason that a professional golfer doesn't hit the ball down the middle every single time.
