Panthers Sign 3rd Round WR Armanti Edwards

The Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with third-round wide receiver Armanti Edwards, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.

According to Wilson, Edwards' deal is worth $2.5M, including a signing bonus in excess of $710,000.

Edwards (5-11, 185) was a four-year starter at quarterback at Applachian State University, completing 65% of his 1,180 pass attempts for 10,392 yards, with 74 touchdowns and 33 interceptions during his career. Edwards added 4,361 yards and 65 touchdowns on the ground, making him the most productive player in Southern Conference history, as well as one of the most exciting athletes to ever come of the Football Championship Subdivision level, where he twice won the Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the top player in that level of competition.

At his pro day on March 16, Edwards ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds, posted a 34.5” vertical leap and a 10’03” broad jump.

The Panthers view Edwards as a multi-purpose weapon on offense, and traded their second-round pick in 2011 to move up and draft him. Edwards will be used as a wide receiver, and will also be used on punt returns.

Edwards is the eighth member of the Panthers’ ten picks in the 2010 NFL Draft to sign a contract
