Haynesworth May Be Inactive in Week 1

Jason Reid of the Washington Post reported early this morning that Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is expected to log considerable playing time in the team's fourth and final pre-season game.

Reid adds that Haynesworth acknowledges he's made mistakes at his new position, and wants to play in Thursday night's game.

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network confirms the report that Haynesworth will play on Thursday, and adds that Haynesworth might not start against the Dallas Cowboys on September 12, staffers on the Redskins believe he might not be active for the season-opener.

While I'd never underestimate the lengths Mike Shanahan is willing go to send a message, he'd have a difficult time convincing anyone that Haynesworth wasn't one of the best 45 players on his team on September 12. Haynesworth may not be ready to start at the "5" technique in Jim Haslett's defense, but goal-line and field goal block team assignments should be enough for Employee #92 to dress that night.
