Dequoy is a heck of an athlete. If he can play football he might be a diamond.

Stewart is very legit. I live in Lansing and watch a fair amount of Spartan football. Some issues with drops, but if he can stay healthy he could absolutely be the shifty slot receiver their looking for.

I am surprised that these were not the draft picks.
Why fool around with reputable colleges and talented players, they will just be divas, just go UDFA all the way with gutay!

Whats this? No one from the University of Podunk this year?

We all like to have our alumni on the Packers but I guess it's not your year.

Q:
How do they realistically evaluate an UDFA while having a virtual minicamp? Besides studying past film how are they going to decide who they might keep around to give him a shot?
Articles on CHTV about what the next month or so of virtual minicamps/?OTAs entails might be interesting. Maybe interview some players on what it is like to be connecting this way.

Imagine the difficulty in roster building if there's no 2020 season and they essentially go straight to the 2021 draft with no college season to evaluate incoming players by...

It'd probably look like this draft

If there is no college season not only how does one evaluate, but how does one handle 2 classes of new players in terms of both numbers and training.
If there is no NFL season, how would one order draft picks? Just repeating the order this year gives early pickers a double dip. That would seem wrong.
So many questions begin to flow.

If no NFL season then have a lottery for places?
Roger Goodell’s twin college age daughters pull ping pong balls out of a bowl in Goodell’s basement. Just don’t let Belichick’s dog anywhere near. The dog is probably well trained to cheat.

I can't imagine that the shutdown will go that long. People are already getting very restless. It's not even May.
optimisticfan
April 26, 2020 at 04:01 pm
Hank the concern is not that the current shutdown will last that long. We are probably out of the safer at home orders and (some) restrictions by June. Though there will be a gradual removal of other restrictions through June into July (see below for detailed
info).
The problem for the football games is that viruses flare back up in the fall. There might be a second less restrictive “shutdown” in the fall where you can’t have more than 50 people or something at an event? (there probably won’t be an immunization for this for 9-12 months). In the summer people get outside and thus are more spread out from one another, kids are not at school etc so viruses don’t spread as much. Then it gets colder and we all congregate inside, and spread viruses.
Not to bum anyone out but if interested read on:
WI has a plan for reopening. Google: “Badger Bounce Back Plan PDF”
Basically in June (likely) they will go to:
Phase 1: only 10 people at a gathering, restaurants open but tables have to be spaced out, stay 6ft away, Bars and non-essential businesses = Not open
Then maybe weeks to a month later go to
Phase 2: 50 people at gatherings, bars and other businesses open
Phase 3 = normal

Case is already before the Wisconsin SSC. Court stalling a bit hoping Gov Evers and Reps will do a deal. (Republicans control both chambers) In any case WI executive branch does not much legal nor political muscle on this. Either way state reopens by end of May. How and what is the timing is to be negotiated.

Yeah we will just have to see how the restrictions on our activities and the next few months go.
I also apologize to anyone reading this who uses this site as an oasis away from the stresses of life. If I overstepped the line of keeping to football with my comments above I’m sorry. I have no intention of turning this into the “COVID Corner.” I’ll stop commenting on the implications of this virus on our lives. Here’s hoping training camp starts relatively on time and a full season happens.

No apologies. This is reality and we are experiencing one of the most dangerous pandemics in American History. No magic pill. People have to buck up and do their part--endure. Sports are just a diversion unless you're a Player.

Not even adding significant WR numbers in UDFA is Gute just trolling Packer fans. He cannot possibly believe that guy ML wouldn't even allow to dress for games is not in need of an upgrade. ML spoke pretty loudly about MVS when he systematically took away his snaps. I heard. I believe Gute has as well. And Kumerow is well outside a development window. So there is 2-3 spots in need of a competitive juicing.
I hate trolls. I hope he's not around for much longer.

Willington Previlon is the closet thing. I would like someone int he 330 lb range, not 295

As lifelong Packer fan, I'm always optimistic and supportive but generally not impressed with our drafts. I keep reminding myself that a large group of professional talent evaluators make the picks and signings, they certainly know way more than me/us, right? Im guessing that BG is planning to sign veteran wr's that get cut once the shiny rookies arrive. Veteran FA's should be more useful this year than rookies.

I like this take. Now let's go find a FA WR casualty.
WelshMatt
April 27, 2020 at 04:06 am
Well said. After the 1st rd./early 2nd I don't think there was much point drafting a WR tbh. A veteran will help us win this season a lot more than a large percentage of the rookies.
I hope D-line is also addressed. And I really hope O-line is good enough this year if they decide to cut Taylor to make funds available - personally I'd rather Taylor starting but I'm not sure where they'd get the cash to sign WR/DT, and I'd prioritize DT if I had to choose.
Overall I'm more concerned about 2021: King probably gone, Jones probably gone, this year's FAs gone if they don't perform, Linsley and Bahk contract's up too... A lot of replacements or cap room needed b'cos areas weren't addressed this year.

I agree with badger. We fans listen to a bunch of internet mock drafts, and prognosticators. We are not the experts. I’m thinking Gute will find other ways to fill the obvious needs that we have. Or maybe some of the guys he has will step up in the new offense or some of last years rookies will make the jump to becoming major contributors . It was just year one of the offense. It takes a couple years to get it going, and I think they drafted some of these folks specifically for the type of offense that ML wants to run. I’m just saying i think it looks worse than it really is.

The Packer draft was a A or D depending upon perspective. Believe a balanced offense is required A. Believe Rogers should carry the team D.
HankScorpio
April 26, 2020 at 12:22 pm
Not true. I believe in balanced offense that is effective running and passing. The biggest hindrance for them to achieve that is a lack of decent pass-catchers IMO.

I don’t know quite what to think about quality. The only thing that is clear is that this is going to be a different team and we saw picks that reflect the new look. Quality of the second day picks us closely tied with the success of the new approach in my mind, not just their individual performance.
I think we got real value on day 3. I like those picks. Well, now we start to see what a LaFleur designed offense looks like.
