Green Bay Packers 2022

The Green Bay Packers are one of the most popular and beloved franchises in the National Football League. They remain the only team in the current NFL roster that is community-owned, and one of the most successful franchises in the history of the football league.

In 2022, the Green Bay Packers are among the top 5 favorite teams to win the Super Bowl, with a score of +1000. For some, this might be surprising, as earlier this year, the odds for the Packers were put at +1400, and they were not considered as one of the top 5 contenders. So, what changed?

The main news that propelled the team forward was the announcement that Aaron Rodgers is returning as quarterback for the Packers. With Rodgers spearheading the team and Matt LaFleur behind the scenes, the Packers are certainly a force to be reckoned with.

The Future of the Packers

Matt LaFleur is starting his fourth year as the Green Bay Packers’ head coach, and his achievements are top tier. Just last year, LaFleur managed to achieve a tie for the record for most wins by a head coach during their first three seasons. In 2022, Matt LaFleur has his eyes set on taking the Green Bay Packers all the way to the top, and in order to do this, he has built up a trust with his players that few coaches can match. And when talking about the players that he has built the best rapport with, we can’t not talk enough about quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is certainly one of the best quarterbacks on the field right now. Known as a perfectionist on the field, he has a bit of a reputation for quarreling with his head coach. However, at the end of the day, the two make a fantastic team, and are a huge reason for the success of the team in the past couple of years.

Throughout his time with Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers has won 2 MVPs and his play-making has led to a number of successful strategies. If he can keep up the rapport he has built with his coach and his playmates, there is no doubt that the Packers will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2022/23 season.

My biggest question has been if the two win a SB, are they done? Will Rodgers end his career on the high note? I want to see the SB trophy back in Green Bay where it belongs, and if Rodgers can do it this year it will sooth the soul. Of course after that it goes back to my first question.
Let's get that first Lombardi trophy and then see what happens to the dynamic duo.

The real coach/QB tandem this year might be the influence of Campen. Matt can draw up the plays, Aaron can run (or not run) the plays. But it’s the returned QB coach that will keep an aging Aaron sharp.

This will be an unpopular, minority opinion, but if Rodgers can't get this team to the Super Bowl, after what has happened the two previous seasons, then I think he's done.

If we win the Super Bowl this year, then I'm sure people would be amenable to him coming back for 2023, because the only thing better than winning a title is repeating.

Get an innovative offensive coach. Have an experienced, capable QB. Protect him. Give him RBs to help him. That's pretty much a formula for a lot of offensive success, regardless of the names that you use.

Confession: Going into Gutekunst's first draft, I thought it would be a good idea to trade Rodgers....for a lot....and draft Lamar Jackson, and change the way we play in Green Bay. But I have repented, because I don't think you can beat up your QB all season AND the playoffs very long before they break, and then you are shit out of luck.

The more I look at it, the more I really admire what Gutekunst/LaFleur did. They obviously thought they could win a title with Rodgers while simultaneously preparing for life after Rodgers. But only if they could keep him on the field. That injury that Rodgers had in 2017 essentially ended that season for us, partly because our backup wasn't very good.

But that was the last time Rodgers didn't play because of an injury. Gone are the days of him running around and extending the play trying to make something happen. Now, he throws it away and we go back to the huddle to try again. We move the ball with our RBs, and short passing game, with an occasional downfield strike.

I give Rodgers credit for being able to play at such a high level at this age, but I also have to credit an offense that doesn't require him to take a beating to move the ball. Get the ball out of the QBs hands as fast as you can as often as you can.
