With the 242nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select edge rusher, Jonathan Garvin from Miami.

MEASURABLES/COMBINE:

Height: 6'4''  Weight: 263   Arms: 34"  40-yard dash: 4.82 sec.  Bench: 23 reps  Vert: 36"   Broad Jump: 125"

CAREER NOTES:

Garvin was nicknamed "Spider" for his length and agility, both of which were on display regularly to Miami opponents in 2018. He started all 13 games that year, racking up 17 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks with 60 total stops. Garvin also broke up five passes and recovered two fumbles on the year. He made plays as a junior, starting 11 of 12 games played and posting 37 tackles, nine for loss, five sacks and two forced fumbles. He decided to sit out the team's bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft. The four-star recruit from Lake Worth, Florida, contributed as a true freshman, recording nine tackles (three for loss, two sacks) in 13 appearances as a reserve. -- NFL.com

SCOUTING REPORTS:

"Traits-based edge defender capable of playing 4-3 end or 3-4 rush linebacker. Garvin's strong 2018 was followed up with inconsistent effort and an inability to stamp his presence on games with much consistency. He gains depth upfield quickly and is fairly natural at defeating the punch and flipping the corner. Pressures are nice, but sack-makers get paid and that won't happen unless he cranks up the effort and plays to his traits and potential. Garvin has Day 2 talent, but may not go until Day 3. However, there might be gold to mine if a coach can get it out of him." -- Lance Zierlein from NFL.com

"Miami defensive end Jonathan Garvin has some high-level flashes on tape that reveal an exciting skill set but they are too often marred by lackadaisical effort which reveals issues with play strength, urgency and contact balance. Garvin is a younger prospect that is far from maxed out physically which indicates there is plenty of room for him to develop. Garvin is a high-end developmental EDGE prospect that has a considerable ceiling if/when the switch flips. There aren’t any notable physical restrictions present, Garvin has to get stronger, play faster and become consistent." -- The Draft Network

CHTV DRAFT GUIDE: FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

Jonathan Garvin is the Cheesehead Draft Guide's #21 ranked edge rusher.

COMMENTARY:

With their last pick the draft, the Packers find an edge rusher with a lot of upside to add to their roster. Garvin has the physical tools Green Bay likes in their outside linebackers. With a tall and solid athletic frame (6-4, 263), the former Miami defensive end also shows good burst and athleticism off the edge. While edge rusher is not an immediate need on the roster, it makes sense Green Bay decided to spend a draft pick at the position. They lost Kyler Fackrell in free agency, and Garvin will provide some depth at the position, playing behind Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Rashan Gary.

COL...(Stands for crying out loud)

9 picks and not one WR? The absolute best pick as far as value doesn't come until the 6th round with Jon Runyon. I can't believe those first 3 picks especially when IMO there were so many better, MUCH, MUCH, better players available.

When day 2 came I was hoping Gute would get Rodgers help, perhaps Antonio Gibson who went 4 picks AFTER Dillon. IMO Gibson would have been the PERFECT pick at 62. I can't even comment on our 3rd rounder other than he'd have been there in the 7th I bet. 6'2" TE's just aren't in that much demand.

I can't remember a worse draft overall in my 52 years of being a Packers fan. This draft even makes ANY draft the Packers had in the 70's and 80's look great. I hope Gute and MLF prove me wrong because NOTHING would make me happier, especially right now.

What a shit show...

Well I just woke up from a nap. During my nap I had a nightmare that the Packers went through the entire draft and didn’t select any of the WRs in the best WR draft in decades and beyond that they didn’t any select DLs to improve our run defense. It was unbelievable!!!

I’m glad that’s over. Now I’m excited to watch the 2020 draft. Oh wait, No! This really happened??? Might as well go back to sleep until the 2021 draft. If there is one. Thanks, Since ‘61
