RobinsonDavis's picture

Interesting, appears there may be no 7th WR. And no RB cuts that we know of outside of Phillips (so far), correct?

Jersey Al's picture

Allison will be the sixth WR after week 1

Handsback's picture

Odd about the WRs since Geronimo is out the first game unless Crockett is selected.
Has Crockett been cut yet?

RobinsonDavis's picture

Not that I have seen, but my guess is that he has been cut. If so, that would mean the Packers will likely play Seattle with 5 WRs, or they pick-up another WR at some point.

L's picture

Don't forget that Montgomery can fill in at WR if necessary.

Jersey Al's picture

I feel safe saying there is no way Crockett made it over Dupre, Yancey or McCaffrey. They will go the first week with five and then bring Allison on in week two.

Food for thought: I just had someone on twitter just suggest they may be going with fewer WR because of the TE additions this year (more two TE sets). Thought that was interesting...

RobinsonDavis's picture

Would agree with that perspective.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Crockett has been cut.

Zachary Jacobson's picture

He hasn't been reported as one of the team's cuts yet.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Cutting McCaffrey is pure insanity.

L's picture

If not snagged by another team I'm sure they'll look to add him to the PS.

sonomaca's picture

I think it's a safe bet that at least one of Yancy, Dupre, Clark or McCaffery will be picked up. If Pack can get 3 to PS, that would be good enough.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

I want McCaffrey, not the other two. McCaffrey and Clark, ideally.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

The thing is, Yancey and Dupre look very ordinary. If GB sees something in them, yeah OK. Not giving that a ringing endorsement.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Agreed. Meh.

RobinsonDavis's picture

Price is being reported as being released. This is big in my opinion as he was one of the "best players available" on the bubble once the WRs were determined. Almost certainly means that Gilbert has made the roster (at least for now) IMO.

RobinsonDavis's picture

Well Gilbert got cut...so much for my prognostics! Defensive side of the roster shaping up to include somebody from the group of Biegel, Adams, Tripp & Pipkens.

L's picture

It's possible that once Adams gets officially IR'd they will sign either Price or Gilbert onto the 53. Not sure if that will happen but it might, but of course Brooks needs to get added too so maybe not.

RobinsonDavis's picture

Logical, but I think Brooks will be signed and somebody like Adams or Barclay will go to the IR and hopefully return.

dobber's picture

I'm hoping they move Adams to IR, sign Brooks, locate a C/G, cut Patrick and McCray, and fill that last roster spot with McCaffrey or Gilbert.

RobinsonDavis's picture

Agree

RobinsonDavis's picture

I count 5 back-up offensive linemen not named Spriggs or Murphy still with no news.

tm_inter's picture

Kofi Amichia has been released. Another draft pick cut.

RobinsonDavis's picture

So somebody (or two) from the group of RB's has yet to be announced as being released, or somebody in the O is headed to the IR if the reporting of cuts is true.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Clearly, performance means little to nothing with some of these decisions.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Yes, that is true, but potential is part of the equation.

JohnnyLogan's picture

Could cutting Gilbert be temporary. PUP Biegel tomorrow then add Gilbert?

RobinsonDavis's picture

Add Brooks probably (in my opinion) and try to sign Gilbert to the Practice Squad.

egbertsouse's picture

In the first line you have a spelling error. The actual spelling is, Ted "The Turd" Thompson. You're welcome.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Boy, I'm glad we kept McCray, Pipkins, Fackrell and Patrick, since those guys would have been snatched right up on the open market...

...bwaaaahahahahahaha!!!!!

But seriously...

RobinsonDavis's picture

There are rumors that Datone Jones could be released with an injury settlement. If this is true, does the Pack take him back over Fackrell?

The keeping of McCray and Patrick tells me that Barclay will NOT be ready to go week one and possibly week 2. You would think they are "combing the desert" (SpaceBalls), for a veteran that's been released.

Point Packer's picture

Oh god. don't bring back old Kung Fu Jones. I'm sick of the choir posting how "disruptive" he is.

Not a great back end of the draft for TT.

al bundy's picture

I see a lot of mikey here. Easier to keep guys who know system then newbies who you have to couch up. Fackrell, spriggs, janus not cut they did nana pre season. They sure as hell didnt outplay anyone cut.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Actually, Janis had a strong preseason, but your point stands.

GVPacker's picture

I'm sure ViQueens GM Rick Spielman will waste no time scrounging and sniffing over Ted T's roster cuts!

Point Packer's picture

Kyler Fackrell remains on the team, but Gilbert is cut. Smart.

sonomaca's picture

You mean future all-pro (fill in team) LB Gilbert?

Point Packer's picture

"You mean future all-pro (fill in team) LB Gilbert?"

No, I mean the serviceable back-up at best who has potential to excel on special teams.

As opposed to Fackrell, who has done absolutely nothing since adorning the Green and Gold. Nothing. Can't beat 3rd string TE's around the edge. 3rd round bust.

Mojo's picture

Think there's a high probability Gilbert ends up on GB's PS, if you can find solace in that.

Point Packer's picture

I'm less a huge Gilbert fan and more a Fackrell doubter. He hasn't shown a glimmer of potential. Put someone out there who has a motor and may with a little experience, blossom into a regular contributor and/or a solid backup. This is one of those classic TT mistakes where, despite everyone else seeing a complete lack of potential/talent (MD Jennings, Zombo, Mulumba, Don Barclay), they just keep hanging onto a roster spot, preventing new blood from being given a shot.

Fackrell is likely cut next year and won't do anything this year. Nothing.

sheppercheeser's picture

I can't believe they cut Max McCaffrey, the hardest working player on the team. Big mistake...

sonomaca's picture

Predicting the Pats, Bears, or Lions are all over that.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Absolutely. Hence my anger.

sonomaca's picture

Clark's the one I really wanted.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Beat writers are reporting that Williams, Mays and Jones have been told they have made the 53. Also that McCray, Lucas Patrick and Pipkens have been told they've made the roster. Really, really, hate the idea that 9 or probably 10 OL made this roster when I don't see more than 6 that can play.

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

My point exactly, though I incurred a million dislikes for it.

Mojo's picture

Don't worry TGR, at least one of those o-lineman will be gone when Bulaga or Barclay show they can play. But it shows how bad the backup group is when Barclay is considered a significant upgrade.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

I reserve not only the right to worry, but to go on a rant, but the rant has to wait a few days until things have shaken out completely.

badaxed's picture

Barclay sucks and has always sucked. does not belong in the NFL.

Point Packer's picture

Not sure what he has on MM and TT, but he would not be in the NFL if those two didn't have some strange love affair with the guy. He was decent, or at least serviceable, when filling in at RT prior to the knee injury. He's been horrendous since. Absolutely horrendous.

One cannot be considered "versatile" just because he's been proven to be bad at many positions. Kills me when people defend him due to his versatility. Its just utter BS.

RobinsonDavis's picture

They did keep 10 Olinemen. 4 TBs, 1 FB, 2 Qbs, 5 WRs, 3 TEs

RobinsonDavis's picture

5 RBs seems steep to me in a pass happy offense, too.

Oppy's picture

When you've got tight competition at a position, and you've got a handful of guys at other positions that are PUP'd or IR'd that you know will be taking a roster spot down the road, you keep the competition around as it lets you get at least six more weeks of practice (and maybe even live game performance) to appraise their value... then you can release the ones who don't rise up to accommodate a player returning from injury etc.

Mojo's picture

McCray or Patrick or possibly both will be cut when Barclay and Buluga are deemed ready to go again. They could also be cut if GB finds a better fit on the waiver wire.

With the QB spot, they must feel they can get at least one of the two - Callahan or Hill back on the PS. Willing to let the other one go. Now if both leave then it gets interesting.

If I'm correct they kept Kerridge. Another possible cut when they bring in someone else. A lot of RB's

Andrew Lloyd Peth's picture

Kerridge is one of the few bubble players who was kept because of performance.

This is the most head-scratching cut day I've seen in years.

RobinsonDavis's picture

Do we know for sure Kerridge has made the 53?

Edit: just released. Kerridge sent to IR with David Talley

Mojo's picture

Not 100% sure RD since I've only seen cut players and not the roster. Until now I haven't seen Kerridge's name on the cut yet.

RobinsonDavis's picture

See above, Kerridge just sent to IR

RobinsonDavis's picture

Adams not on IR....makes roster. 6 Dline, 5 safeties, 7 CBs and 7 LBs make roster

Curt's picture

Still eight more cuts? Six with the two suspensions -

Guess extra OL mean no Baluga or Barclay week one!

Point Packer's picture

Not only does Barclay suck, but he's oft injured as well. Stellar combo.

stockholder's picture

Wr's; All correct choices. Davis , Janis, and Allison were A-Rods picks. 2 Qbs, Correct. 3 Rookie RBs ? Changes coming.

Ibleedgreenmore's picture

The big surprise was Mac did will receiving. Not a lot of others sorta shocked over Gilbert being gone for now.

Mojo's picture

I do recall how Hill emphasized the tape that is out there on his play after the last game. I think he's gone.

Callahan will probably stick around which is alright with MM since he likes him.

4thand10's picture

I thought Price and Ringo did outstanding when in there together. I also wanted McCaffrey. I hope they can keep McCaffrey and Clark on the P.S. McCaffreys decision making on special teams was very good...those kind of instincts really can't be taught.

Oppy's picture

Disappointed about Ringo over Price. I personally believe this is a mistake.

Surprised that Max McCaffrey didn't make it. I thought he might have made himself a "can't cut" after last week.

File this under "I know they'd never do it, but..." I would have cut bait with Spriggs. I generally appreciate that the Packers play the long game with development, but Spriggs looks decidedly worse than he did a year ago.. against 2nd and 3rd string competition. Dumpster fire. I would have cut his ass and risked it with an undrafted street FA tackle at this point.

Assuming an OL gets cut for Allison, assuming a RB gets cut for Beigel. Ahmad Brooks? I don't know. Not likely, but I could see the Packers deciding to pass even though they reportedly signed him. He's a bad apple.

Go Pack.

Jersey Al's picture

I thought Ringo really stepped up this camp - made an impact when he was in there. I'll take him over Price.

Mojo's picture

Glad Ringo made it, he had a good camp. If Price ends up on our PS then more than enough depth there. They must feel Adams is close to coming back if they didn't IR him. EDIT: guess they'll move Adams to IR once they sign Brooks.

Tremendous depth in the secondary. Especially at safety. We were wondering for a while whether it would be Gunter or Pipkins - turns out both.

This roster is far from being set. There's still a number of players who could be gone after future maneuverings - Mays, Pipkins, Patrick, McCray and Ringo better not buy a house just yet.

Tundraboy's picture

I have a dream, McCarthy is going to pull out all the stops. With the two new tight ends and keeping the three rookie running backs, it is clear to me now maybe he's really all in and a big part of the approach, is going to be keep our defense off the field.

Tundraboy's picture

Still surprised.Gilbert was cut. OLB depth at the expense of an OL body?
