Report: Packers' Ha Ha Clinton-Dix placed on trade block

-- Green Bay Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix could be on the move before the trade deadline this week.

According to Albert Breer of MMQB.com on Sunday, Clinton-Dix is listed as one of the candidates likely to be moved before the Oct. 30 deadline, which falls on a Tuesday.

"It's not that he's fallen out of favor -- he's actually played every step on defense for Green Bay through six games," Breer wrote. "But he's in a contract year, and the Packers have some depth in the secondary to play with."

It was later confirmed by Jay Glazer on FOX that Clinton-Dix is, in fact, on the trade block. He also listed the Packers as one of the teams interested in acquiring a "premium pass-rusher" before the deadline.

"We've already had three trades just this week, which is really abnormal," Glazer said. "I'm told the next 36 hours are going to be even crazier."

The Packers allowed veteran safety Morgan Burnett to walk in free agency -- and eventually sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers -- and were left with evident holes in their secondary as a result. The duo of Clinton-Dix and Kentrell Brice on the back end hasn't been able to strike fear into any opposing offense and prevent them from throwing deep.

Clinton-Dix has been on his game for the most part, however. He not only leads all safeties in interceptions (11) since the start of the 2016 campaign, but he's dependable and hasn't missed a game since his rookie season.

The Packers could gain significant capital in return for their 2014 first-round pick, whether it's another safety in return, draft picks, an edge rusher or some form of a combination of those three. They have glaring needs at both safety and outside linebacker, especially if they were to shop Clinton-Dix elsewhere.

Kentrell Brice, Jermaine Whitehead and Raven Greene are the only other safeties currently on the Packers' roster, sans Clinton-Dix. They also have Josh Jones included in that group, who has played a grand total of four defensive snaps in the three games he's been active in this season.

Clinton-Dix's contract is up at the end of this season, which would declare him a free agent.

Don’t agree with this move at all keep HHCD and move him to SS which is his more natural position send a 2nd or 3rd to Jacksonville for Fowler. They move HHCD now and they’re stuck trying to fill two safety positions this offseason. Say what you want about him but he is a ball hawk. After HHCD they don’t have a single quality safety trading him will only make a weak position even weaker.

I think they're trying to fill two S positions after this season if they DON'T deal him.

They wouldn’t have to if they move him to SS he doesn’t really have the range for the FS position quality safeties are hard to find and the last thing they need to do is try to find two, the FS is especially hard to find.

I don't want to re-sign HHCD, unless he comes really cheap. But I agree with the rest of your post. They will have to find 2 safeties in the offseason regardless.

OLB, FS, OT are top priorities going into next year.

We must not be watching the same games if you think HHCD would be effective in a SS role. He isn't a ballhawk either. He's made one interception that I can recall (this year against Buffalo) where he made a ballhawk-type play on the ball. All his other interception are due to being in position and the ball being overthrown/bouncing off hands, etc... You don't pay a guy elite tier money because he is in position. You just don't. Watching the tape on HHCD reveals a guy that shies away from contact and frequently allows big plays in the redzone.

If they can't anything close to a 3rd or 4th round pick for him, or a package deal that nets a pass rusher coming back then Gute needs to make it happen.

Why does it matter how he gets picks? As long as he brings them in that’s all that matters never thought I’d see people bitch about how a player gets interceptions. Kyle Fuller can’t hold on to an easy pick to save his life. Yes I’ve seen Dix play better up front as a SS like he did in 2015 where he was more around the line of scrimmage his tape goes back further than just 2016.

Chances are with how BG does Free Agency the Packers are not automatically getting Comp Picks any more. If they can trade HaHa for a 2nd or 3rd I would do that.

I also don't think HaHa wants to be in GB. I think he prefers the south.

Indirectly, he has. Earlier this season, an article here at CHTV quoted HHCD as saying he doesn't think he'll be in GB in 2019. Other players, in the past, have talked their way out of GB using similar language.

That’s more of him feeling like the franchise isn’t going to resign him which is evident by them putting him on the trade block. Come on now

Rumor since the beginning of the season pushed by Dix's agent for, heck you know. Odds of him being traded, depends if the Packers are in the playoff hunt or not. Slim to none. Football teams do not trade a core player on a unit, Packers less so. Possible but not probable if the team drops off a cliff in the next four games. Got to feed the the TV beast.

Doesn't matter what they do over the next few weeks because the trade deadline is Tuesday. So they either trade him before then or wait until seasons end and let him walk and hope and pray they get a 4th round compensation.

Forgot to add that Dix would be a 4-5 game rental with his contract ending. Not enough time to learn another teams scheme for this season. (credit dobber for pointing out how teams are acting on expiring contracts on 5th year starters)

I find it ironic that I am watching the Skins vs Giants game and the Skins safety D.J. Swearinger intercepted Eli Manning pass on a play where he was covering Evan Ingram on a corner post route and diagnosed the Giants play developing underneath so he passes off Ingram to a safety then peels back to undercut a throw to Odell Beckham. When I saw it I was like wow, that's what the Packers need a Safety with some smarts who can make plays other than when the ball is thrown straight to them. So I come here to post about it and the top story is HHCD on the trade block, lol. I hope we can get some quality for him.

And Swearinger has beem let go by a few teams.
In other words, no need to 100% rely on Draft & Develop.
See L.A.
Rams.

See New England.

Ship Haha & Jamaal Williams to Buffalo for OLB Jerry Hughes & LeSean McCoy.

This tells me that the Packers won't be resigning Dix at the end of the season and that Gute is trying to get some value for him. If we can get #2 or #3 pick or a quality edge rusher I say go for it.

Trading for another safety probably means we won't do much better than what we have now. Maybe Gute has 2 moves up his sleeve. Trade Dix for picks or an Edge rusher and then trade a pick or two to bring back a safety like Landon collins from the Giants. He could improve two positions while giving up almost nothing. Thanks, Since '61

Lenzy Pipkins, Josh Hawkins and Marwin Evans are waiting in the wings and why not, they know the playbook. Maybe Breeland can do it but I can see that Gute sees a big hole somewhere else and instead of an edge rusher he's looking to find Wilkerson's replacement to improve the defense in the run game right now. The Achilles heel is there and I'm afraid Todd Gurely is going to expose it. I hope I'm wrong.

We will not make it against the better teams if we don't improve in that department, we'll just be gettin' rolled on like we have been, and the Super Bowl Is but a dream. Ha Ha in this regard is expendable. if Gute's can get something for Dix then he should strike while he can before that window closes. If the tradeoff is losing Dix to get someone that can help stop the run then you go get that guy. We have Ha Ha's replacement Wilkerson left a hole.

The defense wasn’t the problem today. How does #88, a Stanford guy...take a kickoff out of the end zone with 2 minutes left and #12 just needing a FG to win?! Hell, trade him if anyone. He brings nothing additionally that we don’t have in other players on the roster. I’ve rooted for Ty but I just don’t see value lately. Now if he’s going to make incomprehensible stupid decisions on ST, why keep him?!

I agree wholeheartedly. We had a chance, a nice chance to knock off a 7-0 team. 2 minutes with Rodgers was taken away. He could have taken a knee and Aaron would have had the ball on the 25 with a shot to put us within field goal range. Either Ty is truly THAT not football savvy or Vegas was involved because people would have lost a boat load.

Either way.....emotionally I would be pretty upset and just let him go to send a message. He can go make mistakes like that for another team. This team is not as bad or good as writers make them sound....Beat the Bears once, went Toe to Toe with the Vikings with a chanc to win that one and now....toe to toe with the Rams with a big chance for an upset....

Time to get what they can from these wasted picks, cut the fat contracts and get some decent guys around Rodgers

yeah, sure like something exists like a two year rebuild. AR is two years older and the fatest contract.
and CD has more INTs the last 3 season than any other guy in the NFL.

GM is not in your future, thats for sure.

Like Gruden in Oakland, Gute is slowly getting rid of all but a few TT players (probably those that he liked before).

Would expect to see two safeties drafted to go with the three young corners.

I think the Packers would do well to get a 6th for Dix. A team trading for him would pick up about $3M in remaking salary for the 7 games. I can’t see any team wanting him as a starting Free safety. So, with his contract, the only team I can see the Packers acquiring as a trade partner would be a team with a major need at SS. He can make plays when roving. And, I think he will start hitting again after he leaves Green Bay. All he is doing in the Packers defense is playing for overthrown balls and avoiding injuries.

Anyone who thinks HaHa can play deep centerfield need only look at the Rams final first down conversion where they ran the ball 15 yards for a 1st and goal at the end of the game. I haven’t seen a good replay yet, but what little I saw of Dix on the play would have been enough. How did he end up on the wrong side of the field while the guy with the ball was past the LOS. I saw Dix line up at the snap in the middle of the field. How does an unblocked safety not at least e the Packers is picture end the guy with the ball closes in on 1st down yardage?

There was another bad play by Dix earlier on a TD pass where he appeared to be playing for an overthrow and ended up out of position. That is something he has been doing a lot of this season. His teammates have to be aware of it. It seems pretty clear on the tapes we have seen posted here on CHTV. The team studies that stuff more than any of us.

Alexander showed Pettine who his new top boundary CB is.

He used T. Williams in the slot today and Tramon did a good job getting pressure on blitzes.

I think TW and Breeland staffing the S spots would be a good upgrade. Brice and Whitehead are just guys.

In my view Tramon would be a better FS than CD. And SS CD is not!

Trade him now for 2019 pick or an EDGE/OLB...otherwise the Pack will not get a comp pick once he leaves...and he will...until the 2020 draft.

A bird in the hand...

Could be smoke and mirror play. Leak it you trying to deal him, deadline comes and goes, you sit him down and tell him no one was interested, how about we cut a new deal - el cheapo deal for sure.
The irony, maybe no one does want him. Or the need isn't there right now with 8 games left. The bad teams are already cleaning house.

I’d be shocked if the Packers traded a starting safety, especially without a road-ready replacement. And as was posted previously, I think they’d only get a nominal return. They need impact players NOW, not more draft picks next year. That written...I’ve been wrong before.

Ha Ha is no longer an impact player....I watched 3 plays from him today avoiding tackles....he’s playing more like an extremely slow corner than a true safety. In fact, I’d just bench him if nothing can be had for him. Either Breeland or Tramon can play safety...or even Whitehead...and they don’t shy away from contact like Ha Ha does. His interceptions be damned, in all other areas he is a liability. Hurting his team

I would be shopping Dix, Montgomery, Mercedes Lewis and J’Mon Moore. Should be some value there. With any roster space I gained, I’d use it to re-activate Kumerow off the IR, and bring in a DL/DE. They also need help on the OL. I think Evan is still available. If they dump Monty, they will want to bring in a good blocking RB. If they need a KR, bring back Davis. I would just use Cobb

If no one wants him the Packers have a problem. 1. Sign a guy no one else wanted is not good
2. Let a one pick go for what a conditional is not good
3. Letting him play below standards is not good.
4 hoping he can turn it around not good plan
