Report: Packers' Aaron Rodgers active despite deep bone bruise, MCL sprain

-- The Green Bay Packers will have their starting quarterback in Aaron Rodgers active and available for Sunday's meeting with the Minnesota Vikings, however, details are beginning to emerge regarding his left knee injury.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, Rodgers is dealing with a "very deep bone bruise" in his knee as well as an MCL sprain.

The latter contradicts an earlier report Sunday morning from ESPN's Adam Schefter saying Rodgers had no ligament damage, but Rodgers is reportedly still dealing with a lot of swelling in his knee.

The Packers monitored Rodgers closely throughout the week and gave him the entirety of it to prepare for the Vikings. He didn't practice until Saturday when the Packers did light work, but he impressed enough to help solidify his chances of starting on Sunday.

Coach Mike McCarthy said multiple times through the course of the week that the Packers don't need Rodgers to practice in order to start.

Rodgers will be severely limited against the Vikings in a similar fashion to how he was in the second half against the Chicago Bears last week. The Packers will likely run a lot of timing routes and scheme receivers open as a means to help Rodgers get the ball out of his hands quicker than normal.

Rodgers is also playing with a sizable brace on his left knee -- similar to that of which an offensive lineman would sport.

Former NFL team doctor, David Chao, MD, doesn't expect Rodgers' knee injury to hinder his play "beyond 2-4 weeks," but does qualify two months to fully heal as an accurate assessment, as noted in Schefter's report.
