If I were a GM, these are the 50/50 balls. Walker is a physical beast. Occasionally looks like a break out star, but after each season, the performance is average. Wyatt has the physical tools to be a disruptive interior rusher. That is good! But his run defense is poor. He gets washed out of plays. They both smell like players that will likely get over paid and we end up eating a bunch of dead money. As opposed to extending, maybe you just exercise their 5th year options and give them one last chance to finally emerge. Just like we did with Savage. You might risk a one year over pay, but at least no long term dead money damage.

'Rewarding' Wyatt and Walker is more about Gute's needs not the team. Don't think the best teams would keep either-perhaps Wyatt, on a trimmed-down contract.

1-5 in the division, last spot in the playoffs and gone. Always a good idea to remain average but pay more for it. The goal must be 0-6 in the division and out of the playoffs altogether. When the GM is this disillusioned that goal is definitely within reach.
