NFL SCOUTING REPORT:

Brinson is the best version of himself when he’s allowed to get up the field and make things happen. He gets upfield with purpose and pad level. He can get skinny, swim and rip his way into gaps to disturb the run design and compromise the quarterback’s pocket. He has adequate strength at the point but won’t control blockers or beat back double teams at a high enough rate when runs come downhill at him. Brinson’s rush talent and disruptive qualities should fit one-gapping defenses looking for a rotational piece to create chaos inside. -NFL.com

Warren Brinson (6’5, 315) is an explosive, rotational interior lineman who flashed upside across Georgia’s dominant front. The massive trench mover with 33.5” arms and a 9.10 RAS checks the physical boxes and tested exceptionally well with a 5.09 40-yard dash and elite 9’7” broad jump. After four years as a reserve, he cracked the rotation in 2023–2024, notching 47 tackles, 9 TFLs, and 4 sacks across 25 games with eight starts. He’s at his best as a one-gap penetrator who can bend, burst, and win with swipe/swim moves. His bull rush has some pop when he stays low, and he flashes disruptive traits in pursuit. However, Brinson’s snap anticipation is middling, and his high pad level and inconsistent hand usage limit his pass rush finish. Though not a lock to be a high-volume NFL contributor, Brinson’s size, movement skills, and disruptive flashes make him an enticing target for attacking fronts. -NBCSports.com

CAREER NOTES:

  • 2020: Played in 7 games as a reserve (3 tackles).
  • 2021: Played in 12 games as a reserve for the national champions (9 tackles, 2 TFLs with 1 sack).
  • 2022: Played in all 15 games as a reserve for the national champions (12 tackles, 3 TFLs with 1 sack).
  • 2023: Played in 13 games with 4 starts (21 tackles, 3 TFLs with 2 sacks, PBU).
  • 2024: Played in 12 games with 4 starts (26 tackles, 6 TFLs with 2 sacks).

FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

With five college seasons under his belt, Brinson comes to the Green Bay Packers and the NFL with plenty of experience. The Packers are looking for a rotational player who can help push the middle in the pass rush, and he posted 14 quarterback hits in 2022. He notched four sacks over the past two seasons and had a sack and 2½ TFLs in an SEC championship win over Texas. Last season alone, Brinson tallied 26 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. He possesses the physical traits, from size to quickness, that promise to make him a valuable rotational lineman for the Packers.

COMMENTARY:

Many pundits, Packers reporters and fans predicted the Packers might go defensive line in one of the first three rounds. Instead, the Packers caught wide receiver fever, and Brian Gutekunst waited until the sixth round. Don't expect Brinson to be a starter out of the gate or even necessarily a key contributor. The hope/projection is he will hone his skills under the tutelage of Kenny Clark, Devonta Wyatt and company, and start showing up later in the season. There are plenty of reasons to be excited about Brinson's role going forward. (Also, that 9.10 RAS probably helped give Gutey a reason to pull the trigger.)

I love this pick fo the 6th round! Pretty slow but good sized for the middle. He will possibly be a good replacement for Slaton. I suspect we will get a CB in our next pick so Gute is working his magic. So far so good. I am confident when the draft ends the team will have improved significantly. Always a nail biter.

Better late than never. Right now more of a penetrator than anchor. As usual for a Packers pick, athletic for his position. Brinson had a fine showing in last year's SEC Championship game.

I love Wilfred Brinson in the 6th. Willard is a tremendous athlete. Another Georgia guy with not as much production as one would like to see, but damn he can look good. Wilford is going to be an asset.

Plus, his ads for Country Time Lemonade were fantastic!
He was great in Cocoon as well. (There’s that coveted versatility.)

A lot of people don't remember Wilfred Bunsen. Pepperidge Farm remembers.

A friend of mine from high school sent me a text a few years back that said "Did you know we're the same age that Wilford Bromley was in Cocoon?" I thought he was full of it and looked it up. He was 51 or 52 in that movie.

I remember him best as a Golden Mouth Organ winner. If ya know, ya know.

Strengths

One-gapper with ideal bend and first-step quickness.
Stays low into first contact and under blockers’ pads.
Able to win laterally and squeeze down the line.

Effective use of swipe-swim and swipe-rip as a rusher. (PUT HIS LOCKER NEXT TO LVN)

Upper-body turn allows him to slide into B-gap
Able to push and club interior blockers with his bull rush.

If you examine Gutey's best picks in each round, interesting all are still starting for the Pack except one, 6th rounder Runyon.

Best per round:
1. Love
2. Jenks
3. Kraft (finally!)
4. Tom
5. Wicks
6. Runyon rang the bell joining the NYG
7. Walker

That's a good group.

He's a bit of a projection because he wasn't asked to penetrate much at Georgia but his jumps point to a player that should be able to although his 10 yard split points the other way. Hopefully the 1st step quickness gives guards some trouble. They signed his running buddy, Nazir Stackhouse, as a UDFA. He's a true run stuffing NT. If only offenses would tell you when they're going to run and when they're going to pass right?
