Packers Select Jake Hanson, Center, Oregon in 2019 NFL Draft- Round 6

MEASURABLES/COMBINE:

Height: 6'5, Weight: 295 Lbs, Arms: 32 3/4", Hands: 9 1/4", 40 Yard Dash: 5.5u, Bench Press: 33 Reps, Vertical Jump: N/A, Broad Jump: N/A, 3 Cone Drill: N/A, 20 Yard Shuttle: N/A

Summary:

The four star high school prospect started 49 games over 4 seasons at Oregon.  Hanson did not allow a sack during his first three seasons (2,738 snaps).  He was a two time second all-Pac 12 selection and three time Pac 12 team of the week selection.  As a senior he committed just one penalty in 746 snaps and did not allow a pressure or a hit on Justin Herbert during the Rose Bowl Victory.  His outstanding play during his senior season as well as throughout his career earned him the chance to compete at the NFL combine.

CAREER NOTES:

Hanson has been on NFL scouts radar since 2016 when he took over as the starting center for the Oregon Ducks.  He received Pac 12 honorable mention honors four years in a row for his play at center.  During his career he was recognized by the Pac 12 coaches and the scouts at Pro Football focus.  These recognitions gave him the chance to compete at the combine this year.  What stands out most is that he allowed 1 sack in 2,738 snaps and committed just one penalty in 746 snaps.  These two achievements headline consistency and excellence.  The Packers may have gotten themselves a steal in round 6.  We will see how this next year or two in development play out for Hanson.

COMMENTARY:

Jake Hanson will battle for a backup center spot on the Packers already deep offensive line unit.  Scouts label Hanson as a work in progress at best.  He has the tendancy to get pushed around due to poor mechanics and weak lower body strength but does have very strong hands which in most cases makes up for his lower body issues.  Hanson will need to clean up his mechanics and needs to be coached up in order to be in contention for a starting center position.  His IQ will allow him to fit into most NFL systems which gives him value to the Packers.  Here is a look at some highlights of the Pac 12 standout:

Hopefully, he should be able to start next year which will clear a good chunk of cap space to sign our vets. Two big uglies, love it.

Really Dobber?

Why never any complaints about Zadarius's or Tramon's hair? Afraid that the lefties would label you a racist?

Oregon is definitely a different world...

Looks like they won't be re-signing Linsley after this season. I see lot's of "comp" picks in the Packer's future!

Packers are set at DT, Middle Linebacker, WR, CB, S, EDGE, RB, TE, QB. I do not see any holes in the this roster after last season.

How do you start 4 years at Oregon and have poor mechanics? What they hell was he doing at practice?

Packers need to get another OL with last name of Hanson. Just so we can call them the Hanson brothers.
