Packers Roster Cuts Tracker for the 2025 NFL Season
Ongoing updates on Packers roster cuts. Check back for more additions to the list as they are made public.
By JerseyAl

Today is the fateful day that Brian "The Turk" Gutekunst derails the near-term NFL dreams of a group of hopefuls. Also, a reminder that today will end in an initial 53-man roster. Guys who make it today could easily be unemployed the next day or two after others become available on waivers.
This time around, things got started in an interesting manner. While not a roster cut, the Packers added a player, trading a 2027 6th round pick to the Eagles for T/G Darian Kinnard. Seems we fans weren't the only ones worried about depth on the offensive line.
As for the roster cuts, let's get to it. Culled from a variety of sources, here are the Packers players that have not made the team:
- WR Kawaan Baker, per Wes Hodkiewicz (to make room for Darian Kinnard)
- OL Trey Hill, per Ryan Wood
- G JJ Lippe, per Rob Demovsky
- TE Johnny Lumpkin, per Rob Demovsky
- WR Cornelius Johnson, per Ryan Wood
- WR Isaiah Neyor, per Easton Butler
- LB Isaiah Simmons, per Matt Zenitz
- G Tyler Cooper, per Easton Butler
- DL James Ester, per Easton Butler
- DL Devonate O'Malley, per Easton Butler
- QB Taylor Elgersma, per Tom Silverstein
- RB Tyrion Davis-Price, per Easton Butler
- T Brent Banks, per Ryan Wood
- RB Israel Abanikanda per Bill Huber
- WR Mecole Hardman per Jordan Schultz
- OL Lecitus Smith per Rob Demovsky
- RB Amar Johnson per Bill Huber
- WR Julian Hicks per Bill Huber
- K Mark McNamee per Easton Butler
- WR Will Sheppard per Bill Huber
- TE Messaiah Swinson per Bill Huber
- S Jaylin Simpson per Ryan Wood
- QB Sean Clifford per Tom Silverstein
- LB Jamon Johnson per Aaron Wilson

The Trey Henderson news was expected.
Micah Parsons is merely a wish that won't come true.
More depth for the O-line from other team's castaways is a good possibility.
And that leads us to everyone else... Gutey likes what he has now, so expect nothing more.
Go Pack Go.

I would stash Tyler Cooper on the PS. Let him add some mass and get into the competition next Camp.

August 26, 2025 at 01:26 pm
Parsons couldn't help the Cowboys win one playoff game during his time there. The last time he played the Packers, he was mostly thwarted by Tom.
Leatherhead Football Truth #11: Good edge guys don't get much accomplished against good Tackles.
We'll be fine without Henderson or Parsons or anybody else. This is a good team we're going to put on the field against Detroit.

Just no Joe Johnson deals.

Would like them to look in Parsons giving up Gary and some picks think well worth it. Gary has big contract and 7.5 sacks? Been running on potential now for four seasons think he should be 12-15 sack guy for the money. Van Ness another season 3 time to put 10-12 sacks otherwise defense will suffer. CB's can only cover so much. for this team they need to be top 10 defense or better to compete with Eagles, Vikes, Lions. Th gems they find in late rounds have produced, Golden I hope is going to break that streak of so so first rounders.

So much for the Isaiah Simmons experiment. He was out of position too often on defense and the 61 yard scamper by the Seattle RB was likely the nail in Simmons coffin. Great athlete with few instincts for football. Too bad and I hope he catches on with someone who needs a good special teams guy.
I wonder if that means only five linebackers or if Johnson made the team? Likely five with Johnson on the PS, but it remains to be seen.

Interesting as well because some writers have said he was a Bissacia “must have” because he could play non ILB roles on STs. Good news for Welch perhaps? If so, justified on merit.
crayzpackfan
August 26, 2025 at 09:33 am
Welch has earned a roster spot on this team. Solid ST player as well. Hell, I actually like him better than our other Isaiah at the position. Surprising GB didn't stick with the RAS god though. Perhaps they're starting to slowly appreciate the try hard production guys, you know, football players?
GregC
August 26, 2025 at 10:47 am
The Packers don't care so much about RAS stuff with veteran players. Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney did not have high RAS scores.
Coldworld
August 26, 2025 at 03:33 pm
Welch has no RAS at all as Covid precluded him testing and he wasn’t a combine invite. He ended up circulating a video of him working out to teams, but no metrics are public. He was actually expected to test well and boost his stock. So he might actually be a fairly high RAS guy.

Agreed on Welch, he should have made the team last year. I think the Packers realized they made a mistake letting him go and course corrected this year. He is a quality special teams player and a reliable LB.

Hope Elgersma makes the PS. I like his arm but he needs development time in the pros.

thats most likely the plan unless another team has seen enough to snap him up...hope he makes it..

August 26, 2025 at 10:33 am
I doubt he would make the 53 on any other team - just too raw to be a #2 QB yet. Certainly has potential though.
T7Steve
August 26, 2025 at 10:49 am
Such an early decision makes me think that they think he can hook up with someone and were doing him a favor and if nothing happens will put him on the PS.
Mister Chievous
August 26, 2025 at 03:55 pm
who in the hell is going to make him their backup QB? lol
Cheezehead72
August 26, 2025 at 02:25 pm
They would have to sign him to their 53. I believe he and Clifford will clear waivers. They both might be back on the PS but I hope thy go with Elgersma and not use another spot for Clifford. I believe Clifford has peaked.
PackEyedOptimist
August 26, 2025 at 02:52 pm
Not yet. He's currently free to sign with any team's PS. AFTER he signs to our PS, THEN he can only be poached to a 53.
Coldworld
August 26, 2025 at 03:38 pm
As he isn’t vested he is going through waivers. He can’t negotiate, he’s either claimed or not and he’s going to the highest priority team if he is and will be on their 53 man roster for a minimum of 3 game weeks.
If he’s not claimed and not injured, then he becomes a FA. He can then choose to sign with the Packers or any other team as a PS or roster player. He also would have the option to take up his roster spot in Canada if he chooses.

Elgersma to the PS?...although I wouldn't be too surprised if the Packers find another cut QB they like better than either Elgersma or Clifford.
Alberta_Packer
August 26, 2025 at 04:55 pm
To be fair to Elgersma - we are asking him to be an F1 driver - after showiing well on the F3 and F4 levels. What he really requires is more F1 practice time and races (games) before any final assesment can be made. This will take a minimum one year.

Mecole Hardman gone too. I think they wanted him primarily as a punt returner and he sealed his fate in the Jets game when he made two really bad plays - the catch inside the five yard line and the muffed punt. You can't make either of those mistakes when you are trying to make a team - both poor judgement and poor execution.
Abanikanda is gone but not Amar Johnson yet. I doubt Johnson makes the 53 but I would love to see him on the PS.
Post Script: Johnson was cut shortly after Abanikanda.
Leatherhead
August 26, 2025 at 11:21 am
I think Abanikanda and Johnson would both be guys who could haul the rock for you, assuming you could get guys blocked. I was hoping we could hold onto at least one of them.
LayingTheLawe
August 26, 2025 at 12:02 pm
Hardman needed one of those moments Desmond Howard had when he had a big return in preseason to get him on the team. But, it never happened.
Who does this mean IS returning punts? Reed?

The Hardman release is interesting. IMO, that means the Packers are keeping only 6, or Julian Hicks has made the team, or they are picking up a new receiver. Heath is on the team.
Coldworld
August 26, 2025 at 10:42 am
Huber says both Amar and Hicks have been waived. Will Shepherd too.
He is suggesting T Brant Banks will be invited to the PS to develop. I’d be happy with that, I thought he showed some potential.

August 26, 2025 at 10:44 am
Well that bodes well for Sims, then. Packers keep 6 WRs or someone new is added (which I doubt). Thanks, COLD

Lecitus Smith is mildly surprising. Maybe a PS guy, but that’s 2 capable Cs only as of now (unless you count Tom, which I’m not given the depth at RT).

I thought Smith might have a shot with Monk injured. Wouldn't be surprised if he lands on the PS.
GregC
August 26, 2025 at 10:53 am
Simmons and Hardman both gone. So much for the reclamation projects. They were both worth a try. I was never excited about Simmons, but for awhile it looked like Hardman would work out. His performance in the first preseason game pretty much put an end to that. The question now is who's going to field punts if Jayden Reed can't play in week one.
dobber
August 26, 2025 at 01:23 pm
I thought Hardman was just a fast guy they signed in case they couldn't find a contributor who could run in the draft.
I'd be happy with a guy who can reliably fair catch punts.
GregC
August 26, 2025 at 05:34 pm
That would be Jayden Reed, provided he is healthy for week one. If not him, it will probably be Keisean Nixon. I wish they would've found a new punt returner, but it's not looking that way. Nixon is fine on kick returns as long as he stops fielding kicks that would be touchbacks. The coaches need to give him strict orders to stop doing that.

Chiefs have released OT Esa Pole....former top 30 visit guy for the Packers this year. Reportedly, someone they were interested in as a udfa. Also, the signing of Rasul Douglas by the Dolphins demonstrates that many of these teams are trying to shore-up their top 40 Roster guys, especially DBs. I see teams trying-out multiple CBs currently and the Pack has yet to designate a number of our own DBs as to who was released/waived.
Leatherhead
August 26, 2025 at 11:17 am
Thank you for this making it clear and keeping all this info updated.
It'll be interesting to see how many of the cuts end up on somebody's team, or our own practice squad. I'd predict it's a high percentage because there are numerous good, solid players on that list. We'll probably sign 8 or 10 guys that we just cut so they can be on the PS.
LambeauPlain
August 26, 2025 at 02:21 pm
There won't be many waiver claims by teams to add to their 53's. I was surprised that over the last decade, annual claimed guys ranged from 7 to 17.

I think they changed the rule. Believe 2 guys can be DFR before final cuts. It was expected Lloyd and maybe Sorrell would be the ones.
Coldworld
August 26, 2025 at 03:45 pm
That is correct. By doing so they do not count on the initial 53, despite being eligible to return should the team choose, so the notice of designation is in advance of the final roster submission.

The Massive Tackle Experiment continues to yield nothing. Caleb Jones and now Telfort just never really developed into a guy you'd want on the field.

I think they should have given a little respect to the RB that had the highest yards per carry average in the preseason. To be specific: Amar Johnson. Big mistake. Wouldn't be surprised if the Bears grab him.

They have 4 RB's better than Amar. highest yards per carry in the preseason? You think that means anything, playing against 3rd stringers?
Leatherhead
August 26, 2025 at 01:22 pm
Everything you say is true, but this guy runs like a horse. If you run him North and South with some decent blocking, he could be a big yardage guy.
We are very deep at RB. By design. Because we intend to run more and pass less.
crayzpackfan
August 26, 2025 at 02:49 pm
"playing against 3rd stringers?"
While running behind 3rd stringers being handed the ball by 2 guys who just got cut? That guy? All things were equal and he still showed his speed and vision while also being productive in College. You can't just lump everything positive or negative that happens in preseason as not counting cuz it's only preseason. He was asked to dress and go into the game and do a job. By all accounts, he did do a good job. I'd love for him to be on the PS.

Not many surprises. Maybe Lloyd and Sorrell have been healing well, and will heal fast enough over the next 13 days to roster?
Hope both young RBs Johnson and Abanikanda make the PS and develop for viable game day elevations.
Hope Welch makes it to the 53. He adds playmaking to STs...and if needed, can play spot LB duty and not have to worry about doing his job.
Thought King might make it...hopefully to the PS.
