Packers Practice Report: Starting Guards Sit Out

Neither Josh Sitton nor T.J. Lang reportedly practiced on Wednesday.

When observers of the Green Bay Packers saw offensive lineman T.J. Lang exit the Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints with an ankle injury, they likely braced themselves for the possibility that he might miss some time as he recovers.

Fellow starting guard Josh Sitton, however, never missed any playing time, so it perhaps came as a surprise when both Sitton and Lang missed practice on Tuesday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com:

Sitton disclosed that he suffered a foot injury during the Saints game in a recent radio interview.

After the Packers released former first round draft choice Derek Sherrod on Monday, there's obvious concern over the depth on the team's offensive line.

J.C. Tretter, recently activated from short-term injured reserve, will provide help, but there's also concern over his lack of experience at multiple positions.

With four days left until the upcoming match-up against the Chicago Bears, it's possible there's still time both guards will recover in time to play on Sunday.

While there's obvious concern along the Packers offensive line, the team received good news on Wednesday when several other players with injury concerns were able to practice, most notably quarterback Aaron Rodgers:

Rodgers appeared to suffer a slight hamstring pull against the Saints, although he never came out of the game and has said in multiple interviews that he's fine.

Defensive backs Sam Shields and Morgan Burnett, who both missed the Saints game, returned to practice:

Defensive lineman Datone Jones, who missed the past three game, also reportedly returned.

The Packers will release their official injury report later Wednesday afternoon.

Play calling can help if neither can go. Get the ball out fast on 3 step drops and pound the rock with Lacy! Shouldn't be an issue vs one of the worst defenses in all of football.

I was going to say that if they were to miss both Starting Guards in a game, this might be the best game to miss both. Bears don't have a very good DL and it got even worse after they lost Houston for the year.

I hope Sitton and/or Lang can play but if they can't this might be the best game for them to miss.

Here's the Bears DL: Allen - Paea - Ratliff - Young
Not exactly NFL elite. And that's the strength of their D !!!

McCarthy called Sitton's toe injury "big."

From the king of under selling injuries...that's worrisome.

Sure is . That is why my first thought was Rut Roh. I think aside from Rodgers, the player on offense that we can not afford to lose for any amount of time, is Sitton. He is our glue .

Explains why they didn't run to Sitton's side on the 4th down play? MFer.
