Too many broader questions about player designed usage and the functionality of the D to determine to what extent it’s the player or what is asked if him and what is being taught.

This is one reason why bad coaches need to be removed. It not only leads to bad outcomes, but misdirects player development and obscures accountability for play and thus assessment.

Exactly! It's not just "what the hell is going on out there," but also what's going on in terms of every aspect of player development, all of which is suspect. (Tom Clements might be the lone exception?)

Add a lame defensive scheme and it's really hard to analyze. Although Quay is not yet a "complete player," and does misread some plays.

I still cant understand how a number one draft pick from Ga, Wyatt was sparingly used last year. Could he not step in right a way and contribute? Was he being coached to do something he didnt understand? This year its Van Ness. I see him lining up so far outside the box I wonder who the hell would make him farther away from the QB then he needs to be. He should be in the middle disrupting things. Apparently Barry knows the OLB on this team lack serious speed to cover the edge so they put him way out there to make up for any end runs.
This entire defensive scheme is moronic.

"Draft and develop." Rookies aren't expected to peak. Love it or hate it, it has usually been the Packer way. And the development part seems broken.

I did not listen to the podcast. I can read faster than listen. But the tale of two Walkers is one is a 7th rounder OL coached to play LT.

The other is a first rounder ILB coached to play prevent (the win) defense as a passive defender. Barry wants him playing more like a zone S than an attacker in the front 7. Complete misappropriation of assets.

"Coldworld" crushed it. In a day and age where little development is happening at the collegiate level, it becomes more important to draft talent with not just high RAS scores, but high football IQ and success at college.

Walker was drafted entirely on RAS and potential. He didn't have a track record of success at Georgia, nor did he display a high football IQ. He will require a high level of development at the Pro level, something which he isn't likely to get with this current iteration of a coaching staff. What he has in speed he often lacks in instinct. Even when his instincts are correct (not often) he's usually getting blown up, often by TEs, RBs and even WRs. He's currently rated near the bottom at his position in the league.

Right now, this looks like a huge miss....

KC,

you'll have to establish Quay's claimed "lack of success" at GA somehow.

He posted career-highs in tackles (67), tackles for loss (5.5) and pass breakups (3.0) at Georgiai in his last season.

Athletic and very fast physically but not so fast inside the helmet. Play recognition was one of those big things pointed out in the scouting reports.
-
He must have responded to some coaching though. He hasn't been ejected from a game this season. The emotion and low impulse control seems to be in order. So there's that.

a first round pick should not be a draft and develop type player a first rounder should contribute right away
