Pack-A-Day Podcast - Episode 1699 - The Packers Have a Type at WR

Last year, four wide receivers checked every Packers' threshold as tracked by Jacob Morley. Three of the four are on the 2023 Packers' roster. The Packers clearly have a type at wide receiver, which begs the question, which receivers in this years' draft are the names to watch? We have the answers!

The Packers do have a wide receiver type.
They probably have a type at tight end also.
But that has worked out about the same.

Since 2018 most of the types have been the wrong type.

Which explains why they are still searching.

The drafting of Doubs and Watson has brought some optimism, justly due from watching them make flash plays their rookie seasons.

The Packers are now hoping for a full season of consistency from both...fingers crossed.
And....lets be honest....Both Doubs and Watson better bear fruit for obvious reasons.

Otherwise this receiving group under Gutes watch....was/has been/is a train wreck.
Plus, you'd like to give your next franchise QB (GULP) some legit targets to throw to.

IF...this trade ever happens.

“The receiving group has been a train wreck”

Completely wrong. It led the league in scoring in 2020. MVS and Lazard signed big FA deals. EQ is still in the league. Our WR situation has been good enough to win the division three times.

Not a train wreck. A pretty good unit.

Let me see if i can simple this up for ok Tiger.

The Packers drafting of wide receivers has been less than stellar.

We haven't been able to replace Jordy Nelson sinc 2018.
Gute signed Jimmy Graham, although expensive, he didn't make the cut.

The pass catching room has steadily declined in talent, to the point the Packers had to rely on 2 rookie receivers for success.

Who the fu-dge cares about EQ or that he's still in the league. Is that a feather in Gutes hat or something?
EQ is still in the league, he had 323 yards, 1 TD...what should we do?... give him a cookie?

I hope i don't have to dumb down and i never have to explain myself like this again, i feel myself losing braincells.

Thank you for understanding.

I certainly don’t want to be responsible for your brain cells, so I won’t be engaging you anymore.

It's all good LH.

I thought you could kind of figure it out on your own, without me having to painstakingly go through it for you.

I'm big enough to admit my shortcomings.
My apologies, i wasn't aware to the fact you are very sensitive and in touch with your feelings.
I will surely be more careful in the future and be much more cognizant of your feelings in the future.

You are Loved 🤗

I hope the Packers are getting multiple players back in this trade. At least 3 good players on cheap contracts should be non negotiable. The 3 are Elijah Moore-WR and 2 players that the Jets won't bat an eye about, Jeremy Ruckert-TE Ohio State and the player I want to spotlight Denzel Mims-Wr.

Mims was a draft darling in the 2020 draft and most mocks had Green Bay either picking him in 1st or 2nd round. He fits the Packer thresholds. He is 6'3 215lbs and ran 4.4. He has had minimal production in his short time with the Jets and he has fallen down their depth chart. And they drafted WR in 1st round last year. Injuries slowed him down his first year and the last 2 years the Jets team has been bad and had really poor QB play. Mims is a potential star looking for a fresh start and has been talked about in trade talks the last 2 years.

All 3 of these guys would only cost Green Bay under $5 million and would easily make our roster. Players are always included in trades and these 3 fill holes and save draft picks.

There are so many good WR in this draft and we don't really need one early. I like for Green Bay in mid rounds one of Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Jonathon Mingo, Trey Palmer, Andrei Iosivas, Elijah Higgans the latest. Any of these would really strengthen the WR room.

The moderator talked about 2 other players and I think they are clones of a current and a former Packer WR.

Everything about Xavier Hutchinson-Iowa State is eerily similar to Devonte Adams as far as size, weight, speed and more so the way they both catch everything. They both had great college stats even though they were both the stars on their teams. Hutchinson started his career in JC Blinn and had 652 yards receiving He transferred to Ia State and had in 2020 64 rec for 771 yrds, 2021 83 rec for 990 yrds, and 2022 107 rec for 1171 yrds. and he can block as well. He would be a great #2 receiver for Green Bay.

The other guy was also talked about and might be my favorite Wr in the draft because he is big, talented and probably lasts until later 4th round maybe 5th. Matt Landers-Arkansas could be Watsons twin brother @ 6'5 205 4.3 40 although not small school. He was under the radar before the combine. Then he blew up. Nfl Draft Buzz doesn't even have him in there top 70 WR. He started @ Georgia then transferred to Arkansas and last year caught 44 ball for 800 yrds. Almost 18 YPC and he has great hands. Watching his highlights you would thing he is 6'0 not 6'5 the way he can stop and start and make DBs look dumb tackling air. Huge catch radius.

Having him, Watson and some good TE along with our running game could make us unstoppable in the Red Zone even with a 1st year QB. Any of the above WR in the draft and get those Jets players in the deal for Rodgers and the WR room is rebuilt with alot of young , cheap, talent.

TRADE BACK- GET MORE PICKS IN EARLY ROUNDS. Thats how we make this draft really special.

To me, the problem is that since Jordy and Adams they really haven't drafted anybody with enough talent that Rodgers would think of trusting them. And I understand why. Rodgers reached the point where he just was too stubborn to try anymore

Big problem I see with our approach regardless of the WR type is that we take two or three year to develop anybody and we've always done that with meh level talent. I'm excited about next year as it seems like it will be a fresh start. Now we have Watson Dobbs but I think Toure is one of those players that just needs to get time on the field and to be thrown to. That and a second round draft pick at wide receiver and I think we'll be fine.

I watch Big Ten games and Toure was very good for Nebraska with poor coaching and bad teams. His teammate Austin Allen was pretty decent too. He could be a sleeper for us. Big Ten Macke award winner for best TE in 2021,

Good info. He sure looked dam good on the few plays last year. Brings something different we've missed since Jones I think.
