Mike McCarthy on All 53 Players Available at Practice: It Beats the Alternative

Not a single Green Bay Packers player missed practice on Tuesday due to injury.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Tuesday, in advance of his team's upcoming match-up with the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

The following are select comments from McCarthy's press conference:

  • On the "Get Loud Lambeau" sweatshirt he was wearing: This is actually my second one. "Get Loud Lambeau" is our fan engagement thing this week. It's all about December football. … "Get Loud Lambeau," please participate.
  • On where you get a similar shirt: I guess you go to the Pro Shop. Everything's at the Pro Shop.
  • On the fan engagement initiative: It's a great environment. It always is. This is an important game. It's all about promoting the Lambeau Experience.
  • On Aaron Rodgers' health: Aaron looked good. He's getting better.
  • On Tuesday's practice structure: We didn't do a whole lot today. It was more of a Monday Night type of schedule that we've used, coming off the Atlanta game. … We got the scheme, jog throughs, things like that.
  • On the Lions' losing streak in Wisconsin: I don't know if it was on our media topics. Sometimes it gets old. … We're not counting on it. We don't really spend a whole lot of time talking about it. … It's really just a media topic.
  • On Aaron Rodgers' outlook: So far, so good. We'll see how tomorrow is. He's getting better each day. Tomorrow's practice is more of an abbreviated Thursday type of practice. … I don't know exactly what he's going to do tomorrow. We won't do that until tomorrow morning.
  • On the preparation for the Lions game: To me, I think a big part of the head coach's responsibility is messaging. … We have a teem each and every week. I think this week is more about the mental preparation.. … So far I think the energy is outstanding. … We've had two really good days.
  • On the Christmas holiday: What I've learned over time, I'd be concerned if we were working all day. That's just not right in my opinion.
  • On the playcalling change due to Rodgers' injury: That's really the communication with Aaron, and working Monday obviously helped us and having the players here helped. … We've got a full plate, gameplan, and I'm confident he'll be able to run it.
  • On whether they'll show the Seahawks-Rams score on the scoreboard inside Lambeau: I think that's on our post-Chirtmas to-do list. Haven't though about yet. I understand the theory about not showing the score. … We'll talk about it. Those are things Ted Thompson, Russ Ball and I will talk about.
  • On all 53 players participating in Tuesday's practice: I think any time your team is healthy, it gives you the best chance to be successful. … It definitely beats the alternative. We've definitely made some changes, and I think our players have done a great job with it.

Just stay healthy against these stompers. We still need all hands on deck for the playoffs. I have a feeling that this dome team coming in will be shocked at the weather. Bears game was a sauna compared to what they're going to get. Especially with it being the afternoon game.

Keep this in mind: Lions played us in October last year. Hardly a frozen tundra. There's two years of guys on their roster that have never had a true taste of the cold.

Pack wins this one with the run game, screens, and slants.

There's no need for showing the Seahawks-Rams score on the scoreboard inside Lambeau. Doing so would only distract the players who need to concentrate 100% on the game at hand.

After 3 injury plagued years, and fans like myself constantly saying "If they could only stay healthy...," this is really a sight for sore eyes.

Now I'll go knock on all the wood.

Looks like all those threats to fire the training staff last year paid off.
