Back in 2019, the Packers welcomed the Houston Texans onto Ray Nitschke Field for a series of joint training camp practices. Aaron asked Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy if more joint practices are on the horizon in Green Bay.

Given what happened to Sternberger I'm a little surprised.

Well, this is in Murphy's wheelhouse as Packers president, and as a practical matter they do need to find a way to make up the lost preseason game. Not this year of course.

Better to have more practices and less preseason games. Coaches can learn just as much during these practice sessions as they can from preseason games.

Last year most teams started the regular season fine without any preseason games. The Packers seemed to look better during the early season than they had in a long time.

Go down to 2 preseason games and more preseason practices. It will result to an improved level of play during the regular season. Thanks, Since ‘61

Ahhhh...No! Practice is practice and not a game. Personnel need to be evaluated in game time conditions. In any endeavor, practice prepares you but is not substitute for the real activity.

I’m not sure my recollection matches yours about the play early last year. I agree with the lack of need for the established players. A game or two would be plenty. The problem is the rookies. Until the NFL has a developmental league, the pre season has an important role in sorting and increasing the pool of league ready talent.
