The Story Behind Titletown
Green Bay is commonly known as Titletown among the fans. The reason for that is because the Packers hold the record for most championships in the NFL – a total of 13. Four of those titles are Super Bowls and the team has managed to win three consecutive titles on two different occasions. The first one was in 1929, 1930, and 1931, while the second one was in 1965, 1966, and 1967. These stats are just mind-blowing and jaw-dropping.
First NFL Game
The Packers were established in 1919. The interesting thing about them is that they spent 1919 and 1920 playing as an independent team. After two seasons of not competing in any league, they made their debut in the NFL (known as the American Professional Football Assoc. back then) in 1921. Their first official league game was on October 23, 1921, and they started it off with a win against Minneapolis Marines (7-6).
Built-In Heaters
The Lambeau Field is their current home. An interesting fact about this stadium is that it has built-in heaters below the grass. The system keeps the roots of the grass at around 55 degrees to make sure that the playing surface won’t freeze.
While on the topic of home fields, it is worth noting that the Packers have had a total of eight home fields in their history -, Bellevue Park, City Stadium, Wisconsin State Fair Park, Marquette Stadium, Hagemeister Park, Milwaukee County Stadium, Borchert Field, and finally - Lambeau Field.
