The undermanned Green Bay Packers just didn't have the firepower - or defensive fortitude - to slow down Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Halloween weekend in western New York. The Packers did was was glaringly obvious, which was to try to own the clock with the run game. The problem, however, is that the tactic didn't result in many scoring opportunities. Injuries, ejections and playing the best team in football was a recipe the Packers just couldn't overcome. Despite a fantastic game by Aaron Jones, the defense just didn't have an answer for the Bills' high-powered offense.  With the loss, Green Bay falls to 3-5 in the midst of a 4-game losing streak with a visit to the Motor City waiting in the wings.

First Quarter

Buffalo's offense led by Josh Allen took the field first, but Green Bay's defense showed up - Jaire Alexander in particular - with back-to-back PBUs to force an early 3 and out. Green Bay, meanwhile, went early and often to Aaron Jones. After two initial carries, Rodgers hit Sammy Watkins for a short gain and a first down. Operating with two tight ends most of the time, Rodgers kept feeding Jones until Rodgers went to Christian Watson on a 3rd-and-15 for a gain of 12. Watson would suffer a concussion on the play and leave the game. Rodgers would fall incomplete on the 4th down play giving the ball back to Buffalo.

The Bills would turn to running back Devin Singletary, who hit a 32-yarder to get to the Packers' 15. After the Packers stuff two runs for losses, Josh Allen scrambled on third down to get to the 2 and reset the downs. After another scramble, Allen hit tight end Dawson Knox for the touchdown to make it 7-0 Bills.

Green Bay's next drive started with a well-covered flea flicker, and maybe the fastest 3-and-out you'll ever see. After a nice punt return, Buffalo's offense came back out right at mid-field. A Singletary run for 16 yards and a first down would close the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The second started out with a bang for Buffalo, with Allen hitting Stefon Diggs, who beat Rasul Douglas easily, for the touchdown to increase the lead to 14-0. The Packers kept with the run game, however, utilizing both Jones and AJ Dillon for two quick first downs. Rodgers was sacked on the next first down, but the play was wiped out due to an iffy hands-to-the-face call against the Bills. After a Jones run into the Buffalo red zone, the Packers faced a 2nd-and-12 where Rodgers went deep to a twisting, turning Romeo Doubs for an impressive -- and very necessary -- touchdown to cut it to 14-7 Bills.

Buffalo couldn't be stopped on their next drive, however, with big runs coming from James Cook and some very questionable tackling attempts from Darnell Savage. Linebacker Quay Walker, after forcing Cook out of bounds, shoved a coach to earn a 15-yard penalty and subsequent ejection. After two quick passes, the first to Diggs and second to Isaiah McKenzie, it was suddenly 21-7 Bills with under 2 minutes to go in the half. The Packers would gain one first down behind Jones, but ultimately forced to punt after a hand-off on 3rd-and-16.

With no timeouts and about a minute to go, Allen went deep to a wide-open Stefon Diggs for 55 yards, putting the Bills well within field goal range.  An offside penalty by the Packers almost resulted in a free-play touchdown, but Gabriel Davis was just out of bounds. During a Packers timeout, linebacker De'Vondre Campebll could be seen walking off the field with an ice pack on his knee. A Jaire Alexander PBU would force the Bills to kick a field goal, giving the Bills a 24-7 halftime lead.

Third Quarter

The Packers received the second half kick, where Keisean Nixon had a 50-yard kick return negated by a holding call. Starting deep in their own end now, the Packers went back to Aaron Jones who hit a huge run to the 45, putting him over 100 yards on the day. After another run of 11 yards, AJ Dillon hit another chunk play for 28 yards. He was stopped awkwardly on the next play, and left the game limping on his left knee. On 3rd-and-3, Rodgers hit a wide open Robert Tonyan for a touchdown, but it was wiped out by an offensive pass interference penalty.- Mason Crosby hit the 38-yarder to cut it to 24-10 Buffalo.

On their first drive of the second half, Buffalo used the legs of Josh Allen to get deep into Green Bay territory. After a holding call and run stopped for no gain, the Bills were unable to convert a long third down on an Allen scramble. Tyler Bass hit the field goal to put the lead back to 17 at 27-10.

Green Bay's next drive started with a 3rd down conversion behind Aaron Jones, having his best game since his effort against the Bears in Week 2. Back-to-back carries to AJ Dillon, who returned to the game after his knee injury, resulted in another first down with time winding down in the third. From the Bills' 47, Aaron Jones converted yet another first down on a swing pass from Rodgers, putting the Packers in field goal range.

Fourth Quarter

Aaron Jones rushed for 6 on 3rd-and-7, forcing the Packers to go for it on 4th-and-1 from the Bills' 26, where Jones was stuffed short giving the ball back to Buffalo. The Bills next drive started in its own end, when on a 3rd-and-10, Josh Allen was intercepted by Rasul Douglas, who lateraled to Jaire Alexander for a short additional return. A big play by the defense, although a strong "too little too late" feel to it. And before the Packers could even try to score, Aaron Rodgers' first-down pass attempt was batted up and intercepted, giving the ball right back to Buffalo. Quite the summary of the Packers' evening right there.

Allen hit James Cook for 41 yards inside the Packers 10, and then Jaire Alexander came up with a diving interception of Josh Allen inside the 5-yard-line, stopping the bleeding for a little bit. Rodgers hit Tonyan on 3rd-and-5 for a first down, then a 26-yarder to Romeo Doubs moved the sticks again. Rodgers managed to scramble for 11 and one more first down, then uncorked a bomb to a wide open Samori Toure for his first career touchdown, cutting it to 27-17 approaching 5 minutes left.

The Packers' defense stopped Buffalo just inside Green Bay territory, forcing a punt downed at the  17. With no timeouts, Rodgers hit Tonyan for 9 then Doubs to convert the first down at the two-minute warning. A 22-yarder to Amari Rodgers put Green Bay inside the Buffalo 40 with under a minute remaining, but they'd be unable to sustain the drive. Mason Crosby came out to attempt a 55-yard field goal to keep the game alive, but put it left and no good to end the game. The Packers fall to 3-5, while Buffalo stays atop the AFC at 6-1.

Offensive MVP

Aaron Jones was the lone bright spot on a tough night for the Packers, finishing with 143 yards on 20 carries. He was awesome when he had to be. If they get this version of Jones most weeks, this team has a chance.

Defensive MVP

Jaire Alexander led the way in the Green Bay secondary, which obviously didn't have its best day, with 4 PBUs and an interception. He more than did his job against the likes of Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis. His giving of his interception ball to a young fan in the stands was a nice touch by 23.

What Went Right

Not much, but the run game was solid when it had to be. Ultimately, the tactic didn't work because the defense didn't hold up its end, but Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon were solid tonight.

What Went Wrong

Injuries. Losing Christian Watson on his first touch, both linebackers (Walker to ejection), AJ Dillon for a bit- and Preston Smith late was just adding injury to insult on a tough day in Buffalo. If this team is going to compete, the defense just has to be better. Two meaningless turnovers late in the game did nothing to fix a tough day at the office for Joe Barry's group.
