Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Money for Nothing and Clicks for Free

The Weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

Money for Nothing

I have no Idea if effin' Mike Florio is also getting chicks for free, but damn he can make something out of nothing like no one else on this planet, and likely making tons of money for nothing. Florio conjures up some bulls**t, and every media outlet picks it up and he's likely drowning in clicks. This week it was, "Mark Murphy doesn't mention Rodgers in his mailbox piece," followed up by "Rodgers hasn't gathered with his receivers" - well no s**t Sherlock. Somehow, this nonsense is looked upon as being newsworthy. Money for nothing...

AJ Dillon

How cool is it that AJ Dillon will be doing a show with CheeseheadTV? I'm always interested in a player's personal story and AJ has an interesting one. His Grandfather was the first African-American Team Captain at Notre Dame and is in the Collegiate Hall of Fame. He was raised by a single Mom who worked multiple jobs to support them while earning a Master's Degree and becoming a teacher. She was always there to support and push AJ to excel and his resulting drive and work ethic have impressed everyone around him. Read more about his story here.

Double As

Speaking of Dillon, I CAN NOT WAIT to see the Aaron and AJ show- Maybe they lead a resurgence of the running back in the NFL, these things do go in cycles.

Jerry Rodgers?

Is it my imagination, or has Rodgers developed a bit of an accent? When I listen to his recent interview where he talks about mental health, I swear I hear some Jerry Kramer in there. He doesn't have the deep voice Jerry does, but he's pronouncing many words in a similar way. Now I could listen to Jerry Kramer talk for days, which presents a quandary for me, because I wouldn't want to listen to Rodgers talk for days. Anyway, you can listen to part of the interview here and tell me if you hear what I hear.

Dunkin' Donuts

As a man who weighed 370 lbs at one point in college, it's safe to think TJ Slaton has tried a donut or two. Turns out he can also dunk a basketball. Here he is closer to 330 lbs, but that's still pretty impressive. Latest info is that he is down to 326 lbs with the Packers. Just no one show him where Uncle Mike's Bakery is in Green Bay.

Florio is a weenie. You would think a guy affiliated with NBC would care a little more about whats REALLY going on instead of "Clickbait".

I have this growing suspicion AJ Dillon is going to be a STAR, even as a RB splitting carries with Aaron Jones. I haven't been more excited about a 2nd year player in quite a while. I think we see A LOT of the AJ Dillion we saw last year in that Tennessee game.

LMAO!!! This is the SECOND time in two days I've heard about Rodgers accent. How in the hell did he pick up an accent like this in Hawaii?? The dude can play QB but he's becoming more and more of a tool everyday. He should have stayed with Danica.

We got to in-stall microwave ovens.
Custom kitchen deliver-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay!

Mike Florio - the NFL has never known a man to give so little, to so many.

AJ Dillon was one hell of a get, guys! Seriously, I’m thrilled for you, me and all the fans who frequent CHTV, because those segments are gonna be great. Dillon’s a fun guy. We are fortunate to have him on the Packers.

As for both Aaron Jones & AJ Dillon being in the Packers backfield, we’re fortunate we don’t have to try to stop them. This could spell a new era, as you mentioned, a new cycle of power rushing, wearing opposing defenses out entirely. Been dying to see a power rushing attack added to top QB play in GB for years. I mean, a HC/system truly committed to pounding the rock. That’s one hell of a 1-2 punch, and it will open up everything in the passing game.

Been looking forward to this since Mike Holmgren left. He understood the damage that could be done with Harry Sydney, William Henderson, Dorsey Levens & Edgar Bennett.

I really can’t wait to see Jones & Dillon inflicting punishment on opposing defenses either. Fun stuff to look forward to.

Al, I listened, and I know what you’re talking about. I think Aaron has been working on his voice, cadence, diction, tone, inflection since taking that Jeopardy spot. He’s got, at the very least, broadcasting aspirations after he eventually retires. I’m sure all of that was his self scout (it’s what he knows) after his stint on Jeopardy. If you’re going to pick one guy to emulate, Jerry Kramer is a great choice.

TJ Slaton is going to rock the house next to Kenny Clark. I can see those two becoming really tight over these next few seasons.

Thanks for doing this, Al! Great stuff as always.

Money forNothing? Got your attention. Loved the basketball Tweet. I'm wondering why his vertical was only 29 inches. Rodgers tape was dubbed. I'm sure it's the equipment. I Love the praise for Dillion. But Jones is still the guy. I believe the Packers will miss Williams. I just think 3 toys in the back Field, are better then two.

Williams could block and catch the ball out of the backfield with the best of them, but Amari Rodgers will more than make up for the pass catching part and Dillion has the body, will, and time to learn to be an excellent blocker.

Florio gives the people what they want. Everybody clicks on his articles so they can bitch about what an a-hole he is. Clicks are all that matter, it doesn’t matter is you love him or hate him when you do it. This is reality, deal with it Packer fans. I live in MN. It’s hotter than hell’s kitchen in summer and colder than a well digger’s ass in winter. I can go on and on about it but it won’t change anything.

I refuse to give Florio the benefit of my clicks. Sometimes his stuff pops up through other links and I feel dirty for being duped into giving him any bandwidth. Most people don't realize that he's a self-professed Vikings fan, and he delights in trolling the Packers in this kind of way.

Whether it's #12 or #10 or #9 taking snaps under C this year, this offense is likely to feature the RB more than it has in the past. I think that means a lot of reps for Dillon, and I'd really like to see him on the field with Jones more than LaF used the Jones/Williams pairing. I think those 2-RB sets (which we saw more of with Adams injured) were woefully underutilized a year ago.

Razer - no doubt that porn has more integrity than most of the alleged media. It is what it is. But with the media we go from legit sources like the WSJ or the Financial Times all the way down to Fox which is basically the news equivalent of porn and everything in between like ESPN and individuals like Florio. It 's why I stopped paying attention to the sports media in particular since the late 80s and why I keep the sound down while I watch games since John Madden retired. Thanks, Since '61

I used to read Florio several years ago, but he’s just a football bar gossip. He fills up his content with the sort of thing people speculate about after several drinks. He has to to fill up the space. The difference is he gets an audience whereas we mostly tune out the loud guy at the end of the bar.

Unfortunately, other media types love to mine him for their column inches. Last case in point was his theory a certain WR should end up in GB this off season.

PeteK - Yes! I watched the Sabol lost films as well. One of my first consulting contracts when I went on my own back in the early 80s was with NFL Films. I still have the contract with Steve Sabol's signature. They knew that I was a Packers fan and they would let me watch their films of the Packers games, since the Packers were rarely on national TV in those days.

The Sabol's are great people. They recommended me for my non-football contract with the NFL in NYC and I also have that contract signed by Pete Rozell. Rozell made the NFL that as we know it today. He was one of the finest and most professional people that I have ever met during my business career. TV deals, expansion, the NFL/AFL merger all started while Rozelle was commissioner.

I hate what Goodell has done to the league since he became commissioner. He is tearing away so many of the great things Rozell did for the league. The NFL had integrity while Rozell was there. Goodell and the current owners are just stripping away the league's integrity with their money grabs, their inconsistent decisions about player behavior, their rule changes and total disregard for the fans. I only watch Packers games now, I couldn't care less about the rest of the league like I once did.

At least the Sabols and NFL Films are still going and still doing a great job. Thanks, Since '61

Since '61 -- really like your post. It's good to see a clear statement of the very real changes under Goodell, and the clear reason why --$. To me, it feels more and more like the NFL is moving away from the sport of football and toward some kind of 21st century entertainment phenomenon.

There is no question that the league has become more of an entertainment business than a sports business.
This is the reason for TNF, games in Europe, Mexico etc... Market expansion is fine however not at the expense of diluting the product which long distance travel does. Also, the entertainment business has been notorious for exploiting its stars over the years, at least until the performers have been able to gain control over their own careers and lives.

The NFL professes player safety but acts in an opposite approach by adding more travel and more games to their schedule. They couldn't care less that their fans lose a home game when their home team goes off to play in a foreign country. They dilute their regular season with unnecessary preseason games which expose their best players to additional injury risk. The league has done almost nothing to upgrade the players' equipment to help prevent injuries and it just goes on and on.

At the least while adding a 17th game to the schedule the league should have added a second bye week and reduced the preseason schedule to 2 games. The coaches already know about 40 -45 players who will make the final 53 man roster. I don't think any of them need 3 preseason games to figure out the remaining 8-10 spots. It's just a money grab for the owners at the expense of the players and the fans.

But in the entertainment industry the show must go on and the more shows the better regardless of the quality of the show. Thanks, Since '61

Yes, Florio is trolling for clicks. But so is every other sports, entertainment or "news" outlet on the web. It's what keeps people coming back, and the advertisers get to gather info on the people who come to the site. CheeseheadTV is no exception. As always, the pickings are slim in the off season, especially when there is the lull between OTA's and other gatherings of players. So, you and the rest of the writers try to keep things interesting, and keep people coming back. Is a lot of stuff about Rodgers just fluff and nonsense? Of course. But sandwiched between that are some serious looks at what is happening with the NFL and the ownership changes at the Washington Football Team, for example. Or additions or cuts by teams as they churn their roster in the off season. Or one day seeing that N'Keal Harry (NE first round receiver- just what the Packers always need!!!) might be cut; then, Harry saying he wants to be traded. Meanwhile, we read on CHTV that the Packers OL coach is good, which is not exactly a shock to anyone who has watched the team the last few years. So, sure, Al, there are those who are trolling for clicks- but to point the finger at one guy and not see where the other four fingers are pointing is a bit disingenuous.

Money for Nothing - Al, that's perfect and concise for this entire Rodgers situation. This so far non-event would not have even received a sidebar in the Yankees Bronx Zoo era. Anything can happen but it's looking like Rodgers shows up and plays for the Packers in 2021. After that it's anyone's guess.

Dillon - can't wait to see Dillon running behind Deguara and watching defenders go down like bowling bins. It will be like watching Jim Taylor run behind Jim Taylor.

Jerry Rodgers - working on his acting voice? maybe a new trick to draw defenders offsides? Probably dubbed.

I don't know about Slaton but it's impossible at least for me to avoid Uncle Mike's Bakery whenever I get up to Green Bay.

Good job as always AL, keep'em coming. Thanks, Since '61

I have longed for the Packers to build a real run game. I love the roster of young talent that we have accumulated in the backfield. Our 7th rounder, Kylin Hill is another nice piece to this group.

I thought that adding a serious run game to this offense would put us over the top and make Rodgers that much more dangerous. I never envisioned that our QB would unravel just when the team had been assembled. Not the legacy that either side wanted.

Razer when you have a strong running game it needs to be complimented with solid (at least) defensive play. If you're a running team and your defense can't stop your opponent's offense you end up playing from behind and running teams have trouble coming back from being down by 2 or more scores.

However, if you can play with a lead and your defense can actually make stops and get off the field a good ground game can be devastating, as we watched what the 49ers ground game did to the Packers defense in the 2019 NFCCG.

Hopefully Rodgers returns for 2021, at least, because he provides credibility to the Packers passing game which in turn enables the ground game to become that much more effective. With Rodgers at QB teams cannot afford to play run first because Rodgers will beat them with his passing. But with Love or Bortles or whoever?, teams will force our QB to beat them with the pass while they focus on stopping the run. Thanks, Since '61

But, as Jersey Al points out, there could be a resurgence in the running game this year -- not just for the Packers, but league-wide. As defenses are shaped to focus more and more on the passing game, that opens up opportunities for the running game.

IMO that with the trend toward lighter, faster, smaller Linebackers, teams with a strong running attack will get more explosive plays -- especially teams with big backs like Henry and (hopefully) Dillon.

I agree CheesyTex that we will see an increase in running plays. However, it will depend on the quality of teams' OLs, the quality of their RBs, the capability of their defense to get the ball back for their offense and the amount of salary cap they have invested in their QB. Teams who have invested large amounts of cap space in their QBs will be expecting them to contribute much more than handing off the ball.

The other factor is the rules heavily favor the passing game. QBs can toss the ball up with the hopes of getting a ticky-tack defensive holding or DPI call from the officials and earning an easy first down. Good tackling defenses will still be able to stuff the run game and force 2nd and 3rd and long situations.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Thanks, Since '61

Razer, you forget one very important thing - if AR will be behind OL I doubt he will keep pace of running game as planned before the game. He has rights to change play call and make call by himself. Which will be throwing ball to triple covered DA.

That is why I do not see big part of running game while AR is QB.

Just bring on camp. At this point I ignore virtually anything about Rodgers and I certainly don’t listen or watch him. He is just a wealthy guy if he’s not playing football. Until there is some hard, verifiable news I’m assuming that I’m going to be rooting for a Love/Bortles team as all I know is that he doesn’t want to come back and every reason whispered seems hollow. As I said, just give me some actual football. Unless and until he’s part of that, let’s talk about the other 89 and the coaches.

Al, thanks for your thoughts and congratulations on that upcoming show with A.J. Dillon.

I feel the Packers have put together a strong team for this season and expect them to compete in the playoffs for a birth in the Super Bowl. I think the running backs are going to open up the middle of the field for Big Bob and our new slot receiver Amari Rodgers while linebackers creep up trying to slow down the Jones and Dillon tandem. Should be one of our more exciting seasons regardless of who is behind center and I hope to be there for our opening game at Lambeau.

It appears that many here really dislike Mike Florio, complain about his 'clickbait' articles that are equal to the 'clickbait' articles presented here by the writers. His job is to report on everything said by Rodgers, something that happens here also. Florio offers a take that rubs Packer fans the wrong way which is the problem here, as it's your way or no way here at CHTV, and cannot be denied. Truth hurts and every time I read the cries about Florio's latest being expressed here, I laugh. I guess I should leave Cowherd out of this. Heads will be popping.

So there are times when embellishing or making crap up is OK?

"The job of a reporter is to inform and educate the reader not entertain them with gossip."

I nope then that you are as upset with all Media regardless of the subject.

There aren't any more pure journalists, just glorified bloggers who create false narratives for whichever narrative pays them. Paid assassins, or hopefuls, who give the audience what they have been brainwashed to need and desire, at the cost of their individual credibility, and the extinguishing of common sense.

People were asked if they're embarrassed to be American, many said yes. Ask what country they believe to be better, they had no answer. They've been brainwashed by those mentioned prior and have no answer because they weren't given one to offer. No credibility for what they said and none to defend what they were taught by the assassins or bloggers, not journalists.

“ They've been brainwashed by those mentioned prior and have no answer because they weren't given one to offer”

The irony of that statement being that being given pre-determined alternate choices - A,B or C - is actually not having ‘freedom of choice’ at all! I also won’t delve too deeply into the misleading nature of the ‘are you embarrassed to be an American’ question - which is a paradox, because it’s almost impossible to answer in a binary yes or no manner. Almost no one absolutely hates every aspect of their life and few of us are so well travelled to be able say definitively that an alternate location is better (else we’d already be living there!!!).

Not diminishing your point (which I agree with) that, as a population, people are increasingly employing less personal critical thinking………and this is being reflected in the quality of journalism (which is your other point). Censorship and editorial bias has always existed, the current journalistic quandary is that there’s now too many platforms for people to leak information around this editorial censorship and control………. So the “be first, and corroborate facts later” mentality prevails.

Money for Nothing
There is a reason why I ignore what Florio and some others have to say. Because they twist things to make their own reality.

AJ Dillon
I'm just looking forward to seeing Dillon in year 2. I think he becomes a major piece in our offense. Jones is a stud and does so much for our offense. But I think Dillon is the piece we never knew we needed. I think he shows up big time, and gives the Packers the best rushing attack in the league. While we still have a great passing game, I think our rushing game will be top 5 in the league this year.

Dunkin' Donuts
I hope Slaton becomes a rock in the middle of our defensive line. He could be the player we have been lacking for a while. Slaton is one of the top players I'm looking forward to seeing from the draft class. I will remind everyone though that DL is one of the toughest positions for rookies to come in and play. So it may take some time.

The doldrums.

I liked both Dillon and Slaton and was happy we got them. Dillon will certainly have a bigger role this season, and I’m expecting big things from him, Jones, and the rest of the backfield. There’s some good blockers on the line and some of our guys have shown they can make big plays if you give them a chance.

Since I’ve been told that I’m an ignorant hatemonger, it’s clearly time for me to take a break from this sight. After Rodgers reports and is traded, I’ll be back.

Don't listen to that stupid fucking bullshit, but, if you're gonna take a break, have a good one, man!

I like Dillon & Slaton too. Both players with uncanny size/speed ratios for their respective positions. TJ is 6-4 330. AJ is 6-0 247. wow. Both players will be one hell of a lot for their opponents to handle.

This is hilarious. The guy, who MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE, on this site calls people disgusting names, is all butthurt and defensive when it happens to him.

Buh-bye. Later little man.

I like people with something to say. We may all step over the lines at times, but less people willing to express thoughts isn’t a plus.

Well, at least a couple of comments about the Packers. I’m hopeful once again that we see a dynamic team on both sides of the ball and a significant improvement of the special teams’ coverage, blocking and tackling. This could turn out to be the most talented and best coached Packers squad since we last took home the Lombardi.

Interesting, Al. Yes, I do hear Kramer in this iteration of Rodgers. For me it's in the rhythm, the prosody of his speech pattern. Reminds me a bit of the process of Kobe Bryant's verbal persona morphing into Michael Jordan's speech patterns and mannerisms; right down to smile, lick lips, raise eyebrows before answering a question.

I don't think Rodgers is trying to imitate Kramer, but he has definitely slowed his speech pattern and altered the rhythm. How long before Rodgers starts referring to himself in the third person?

Someone say Dorsey Levens? I wonder what AJ Dillon tape looks like compared to Dorsey Levens tape? Anyone know what Levens is doing these days?
