It's a 3 year extension on the 1 year tender, so essentially he's here for at least another 4 years. I love the way our front office does things, much respect to Russ Ball, his staff, and Mr.Thompson.

According to Bedard, Collins was very likely to hold out. Man that guy is such a hack. Bedard's services are more fit for the likes of PFT. Mostly speculation & all about rumor mongering. The guy just isn't a very good journalist. It also goes to show you that the media rarely knows whats going on behind closed doors, if at all. Never believe what the media says, as it is usually BS. Another knock on Bedard's credibility. Great signings, Ted! GO PACK GO!!!

So semi legit question....Does TT just wait for Bedard to say something and then do the opposite just to mess with him(oh no! tt is an idiot, he is gonna let clifton get away...bam contract. oh no! collins is gonna hold out, for real this time not like what i said last year!...bam contract) or is Bedard simply so "bedarded" that he gets everything wrong on his own?

Great news. He definitely earned it. Now we can focus on who we want to draft for the defensive backfield. Only one thing that could make me happier is if some team offers us a trade or seventh round draft pick for Jarrett Bush.

Can't stand Bedard, he is so incredibly obvious anti-TT. A quote that made me want to snap...

"Matt Bowen of NationalFootballPost.com thinks the Packers should go offensive line in the first round and then try to get a guy like Ole Miss RB Dexter McCluster in the second.
Don't have any problem with that as long as that lineman is not a reach. Don't just take a guy to take a guy. Except quarterback, there aren't many positions where the Packers can't stand to get better. PACKERS AREN'T EXACTLY OVERFLOWING WITH ALL-PRO PLAYERS."

Like why even say that? What team is "overflowing" with All-Pro players Greg? Idiot.

Great moves by TT and couldn't have come at a better time than Fan Fest. I definitely saw Collins in our future but would've liked it to be longer than 3 years. Pickett should've gotten 2 instead of 3 because Raji could be stepping up within the next year. By the way, does anyone know how this affects the Packers' "imaginary" salary cap? Are we overspending this offseason?

The fickle fan ......... Last year at this time when it appeared that Collins might 'hold out' or skip OTAs due to disenchantment with his contract, the majority of fans made a case for expelling NC to Siberia ...... Even after a Pro-Bowl year in 2008, fans & bloggers were extolling NC as over-rated & a fraud ........... Now everyone loves the dude but yet nothing has changed except one more pro-bowl year for Collins ......... Care to explain, Aaron?

Woody - perhaps you missed this: http://cheeseheadtv.com/blog/collins-has-earned-a-new-contract

There's a hell of a lot more difference than 'one more pro bowl season' most importantly heading into last year, the team was installing A WHOLE NEW SCHEME. Or perhaps you forgot that in your rush to dispense snark...

NYpacker, the Packers never said they were going to operate as if there were a salary cap, that was the Steelers. It was just assumed TT would operate similarly. That said, the idea is to operate as though there will be a cap NEXT YEAR, if there is a next year, since this year is guaranteed to proceed without a cap. It looks like all of these deals have done that, as many have mentioned. Basically, by front-loading them like crazy, they are protecting themselves from disaster if and when a cap is reintroduced.

Man, I already thought Ted was a sound G.M. but the way he's handled FA and re-signing key cogs (basically business in general), I just think the guy does a solid job.
Sure, he's swung and missed his fair share, but he's got us some young, promising talent.
And look at the the timing he's had on letting people walk (though he was a year late on #74), for the most part the guy's pretty dead on.

AND,He doesn't overpay for talent, what's not to like?

We are not far folks, not far at all. Hop on the Ted train with me, got a few seats left.

So with the pickett resigning does that mean they may try him at DE instead of NT. Fill in for jenkins after next year? Seems like they paying two nose tackles a shit ton of money doesn't make sense.

I am so relieved that they took care of Collins. He has been so ever since he landed the job. TT is finally comfortable with rewarding his guys for what they have accomplished...beginning to think that Thompson might be a little more giving from here on in now that he has an established comfort level between himself; his players; and the organization....I still don't think he gives a sh:( what we fans think though!!!

Colorado,

Coach basically said that Raji would get the bulk of his snaps # DE in base and play some DT in subs, though I'm sure he'll get snaps @ both in both packages. He's pretty much gonna play both positions, from what I've heard. Remember, he did both last year.

Aaron,

The problem with your link is that it is from 2010 ........... Dig deeper back into 2009 or a year ago ....... What were your thoughts back then ? ........ Actually, to relieve you of your obvious anxiety regarding derogatory NC comments from the past, you were more neutral about the whole situation than most in 2009 ...... Many blogs & 'fearsome' sportwriters were ridiculously wrong & even vicious about NC ......... I won't mention any other blogs by name but if one were to 'lounge' around awhile the answers would be clear.

It averages to $6.6 a year for the remaining four years of the contract. That is less the Rolle just got from the Giants. The upside for Collins is he gets a huge chunk of it this year and he has a shot at another big contract in 4 years. He also doesn't risk losing the BIG payday because of injury or work stoppage. Different numbers but almost identical situation as Jennings last year and somewhat similar to the Rodger's deal before that. This is clearly how TT deals with the young elite talent on the team and it only works because the young talent like Rodgers, Jennings, and Collins want to stay in Green Bay. If they really wanted out they'd all play out their last year and cash in the next off season barring injury.

The release of the new uni's coupled with the re-signings? Yeah, I'd have to say that they're trying to get the fan base to come out to FF and spend some $$$ @ the Pro shop (why not). I'm not gonna make FF, but Guaranteed I'm gonna be spending $$$ on some old school gear! It's working, Murphy's got his head on straight as well.

_____
Last year at this time the O line was a real problem. Many were raving about the Great Killer Barbre (we now know how that worked out). This year, same time the O line is still the real problem. Seems we're bragging up ED-S as the next Killer lineman. A guy who barely played an offensive play until the last game of the season (2nd half). Will somebody please fix that before opening day this year? Resigning Colledge won't improve anything.

Let's hope the cap comes back next year. The Packer's just dumped $30+ million into this year with the Clifton, Collins, and Pickett contracts. Factor in the front loaded contracts of Rodgers, Jennings, and Barnett and the Packers will be cap flush for years if the cap comes back.

Improve the O-Line:

IMO, I still see TT moving up in the draft & taking an LT ……….. Drafting an LT in 2010 allows that player to slowly move into the NFL level …. Or ……. At least is a little more protection when Cliffy goes down …………… Anyone who thinks Cliffy will start & play 16 games is only dreaming …………

Charles Brown, Bruce Cambell, Bryan Bulaga …………. One of these three will be taken somewhere in round 1 by GB ……….

That 1st round OL (Brown, Campbell, Bulaga) could also end up at RT as a rookie as long as Clifton is healthy ………… This allows Lang to bump Spitz/Colledge at LG ………….

Projected OL ……….. Clifton, Lang, Wells, Sitton, 1st Rd. Pick. ………… Spitz, Colledge & possibly Taush would be the depth …………

Woody,

I don't see Lang playing LG. That's shaping up to be a Colledge vs. Spitz battle (whoop his ass Spitzy).
It really sounds like the GBP want him to be the future @ RT, don't see them shifting him around, whether he's starting or backing up Tausch (barring injury).

Bruce Campell is NOT 1st rnd material. He will go there however, because there will be several teams that fell in love with his measurables. I don't see Ted getting sucked into that. He said awhile back that they have their board set pre-combine and then make changes post-combine. But they inevitably go back and re-watch the film and move the kid back to pre-combine status. I found that interesting.

IMHO Lang playing anything other than Tackle is a waste of talent, not to mention a possible degression for him to play his natural position, RT.
-
If I had everyone, not counting a rookie, I'd put Lang, Spitz, Wells, Sitton, Tauscher.
-
And about Collins... Yeah, it helps that he doesn't have any minor distractions this year like he had last... But he'd probably hold out if he did...

Yeah Jeff,
Definitely a good day, good call.
Picket strikes me as a sincere, salt of the earth kind of guy. I've never seen a locker-room interview with him where he wasn't measured and calm, he's a Cool cat.
Not to mention a great asset to help us get where we want to be. I was skeptical if the guy could be "dat dude" in Dom's 34. He pulled it off man (can't argue the #1 rush D); I was truly surprised and impressed. A guy like him coupled with Wood... you know all those youngsters have their eyes fixed on those two. 2 pretty good role models if you ask me.

RS,
You think they'll give T.J. more time @ LT huh? I kind of hope they at least give him a chance to earn it, I wouldn't put it past him.
I tell ya what though, it really sounds like he's being "typecast" into RT because some of his "measurables" aren't quite sufficient to lock down #12's B-side. Phuk that. I thought he showed POTENTIAL @ LT last year.
I've said it before, and I'm gonna say it again...
I don't give 2 shitz if you have midget arms, as long as 12 TRUSTS you, and you keep that pimp upright.

Once again TT shows how good of a GM he is. Collins made the pro-bowl in the new scheme TT wanted to see that, the uncapped year, before committing a bunch of money to a guy. TT is the man!!

I know we have a bunch of crazy packer fans who dont like TT. But many of them just dont understand the little things. I dont profess to be a future NFL GM or anything but it is hard to argue with TT's success. His worst move? Well that was Justin Harrell but hey not every body is perfect. I mean just look at the list:

His drafting is amazing, Rodgers, Collins, Jennings, Spitz, Jones, Finley, Sitton, Flynn, Jones, Matthews (those are in order). He has one really big bust however its hard to argue with the success.

His free agent signings, Woodson, Pickett, Havner, Bigby, Tramon he found these guys on the street.

Keeping the 'Packer people', he has been able to keep Rodgers, Driver, Clifton, Barnett, Woodson, Harris, now Collins Picket ect.

The guy gets it. He understands and I love to watch him work despite the blogs, and comments telling him how bad he is. He wont be back after super bowl 45...
