Trade that "productive" 3rd rounder to move up in the 2nd and maybe get a 6th rounder too.
It depends who they are targeting and I hope it is DL. They can get good talent staying put in the 2nd, but I'd maneuver with the 3rd rounder.

I think this year the 3rd looks a good place to be. I actually think we may find the back of the second is not all that helpful to us. In balance, I’d rather jump right up, but we don’t have the capital, so I would trade back and pick up picks. I do expect Gute to trade back at some point early. Murphy apparently today predicted some trading would happen in the coming rounds.

A bit of a reach, arguably, but he has been rising in mocks recently. I thought they might take Jackson or Grey Zabel in the first. That OL is fixing to be ungodly expensive if they don't draft some linemen. That said, they might be able to find a guard later. Arguably, they could have found a speed WR later, as well. Gute continues to take guys who come to Lambeau on official visits.
Belton despite his size met all the Packers traditional athletic thresholds.

I like Belton. Gute said he wants to get big on line. This is a monster of a man. So far visits are it. Trenches man trenches. 3 guys on OL next year have contracts up. It's an obvious need that is never sexy, but necessary. Needs to get in a bit better shape and if he does, sky.

Walker is 6'7" 320, Telfort is 6'7" 330, Glover is 6'6" 320, we don't have a single D-lineman over 315 and our edge rushers are some of the weakest and most inconsistent pass rushers I've ever seen. With some really solid pass rushers there, GB just confirmed they're going to let Walker go after this season, and where does that leave Morgan? Is he starting LT next year? Is he starting RG? Is he the backup tackle that we wasted a first round pick on? Did we really spend a 2nd round draft pick on a lineman we have no intention of using? We have far too many holes on defense to be worrying about backup OL positions in the second round.

I did. I didn't say they were good, when they filled in at tackle the backups weren't awful, but when they filled in at guard they were. But for Gute to say he wants to get bigger when we already have huge guys at Tackle, that's ridiculous. Our best lineman is 6'4" and 300lbs and it's not even close.

😞

Anthony Belton was in the CheeseheadTV Draft Guide article, "They Won't Be Packers." They've had this article for three years, and this is the first time they've named a player who the Packers ended up picking. Their knock on him was that the Packers don't pick players who are that big.
I'm surprised they went with an OT this early. Maybe he will move to guard, but this seems like a vote of no confidence for last year's first round pick, Jordan Morgan. Another way to look at it is that they want to play power football, with this huge guy and Aaron Banks on the same line.
Since'75
April 25, 2025 at 08:19 pm
Yea, i thought they'd go, or maybe make a move up for a D lineman.
TJ was a big loss for the run defense, something we finally got figured out.
The Packers rushed the ball 3rd highest in the league last season, and i don't blame them, having paid the price for Jacobs. Need a ROI.
But yea Greg.... with Banks and Belton, maybe they want the run game more efficient and even more productive, citing the fact they ranked 23rd in run block win rate last season.
Regardless Greg, i like reading your post, you do you're own thinking, formulating opinions.
Have a fantastic summer.

Sean Rhyan's job is not safe. He's been a mixed bag at best so far.
I suspect we see Walker/Morgan/Jenkins/Banks/Tom as the starting lineup in 2025- although I don't know which sides Morgan or Banks play.
I also suspect Walker is allowed to leave during FA unless he has an amazing, undeniable year at LT in 2025. I think he's played very well, but I don't think he's played "gotta pay him veteran starting LT money" well.
That could leave 2026 as Morgan/Belton/Jenkins/Banks/Tom... and that's got potential to be a pretty damn sexy OL.
Lots of projection here on my part, and who knows? It'll be fun to watch.
LambeauPlain
April 25, 2025 at 08:45 pm
Banks has been a LG his entire career in the NFL. He starts there.
Walker, Rhyan and Tom are gone or extended. Tom is the only sure extension and he will not be cheap.
Morgan and Belton are going to battle at LT and RG respectively I think.
Since'75
April 25, 2025 at 09:44 pm
Regardless how this pans out, I think props need to be given to Walker, for a 7th round pick, playing starting LT in the NFL isn't an easy deal.
I always have said, the Packers don't operate in the draft and develop, like they used to. But they brought Walker up pretty damn good to make him a serviceable left tackle.
He's a better than average pass blocker, run blocking, not so much.
I agree with Oppy, he just isn't a guy you want to pay starting LT money to.
It will be interesting to see how this all transpires going into 2026.
The Packers are trying to address it with Banks, Belton, Morgan.
Not sure Banks is worth 29 million for 2025, and if he doesn't work out, in 2026, he's a dead cap hit of 20 million.
So chances are, he's here for two years at 47.5 million.
That's a lot of lettuce.
I didn't get that signing, but then again, i'm not the GM.
We'll see what happens.
Oppy
April 25, 2025 at 10:13 pm
Yeah, 75, I have a lot of respect for how Walker has played since he was tasked with stepping in at LT, it's the kind of story you want to root for, but at the end of the day, I don't think he's worth the kind of money he's probably going to command, unfortunately.
I also thought Banks' contract was unexpectedly high, but the Packers are high on him for a reason, we'll see where it goes. I think they just saw it as worth the price to gain the immediate flexibility to improve the OL by allowing them to walk away from Myers by juggling up the OL. Now that they've brought in another big boy, it could allow them to walk away from Rhyan or at least shift him down the depth chart depending on how either/both Rhyan or Belton play in 2025.
I think the Packers 2025 OL is going to be the best unit they've fielded in a few years.
Thegreatreynoldo
April 25, 2025 at 08:50 pm
Fair. It is probably a little too early for Gute to be admitting that the contract he gave to Banks is ridiculous. MIght want the option to discard Banks sooner than one might think. Note that I do think Banks belongs in the NFL as a starter, but he absolutely is not special. Panic move as far as I am concerned.

April 25, 2025 at 09:08 pm
The Banks contract always looked like an expensive one year rental. But who knows what the future holds? You have to add or resign two offensive linemen every year just to keep pace. We’ve added Banks and Belton.
SicSemperTyrannis
April 25, 2025 at 10:55 pm
You don't draft based on someone in the building who's never played.
Competition means let the best man win. Collecting offensive linemen is not a problem, when has GB had too many good ones? Discussion of best available would be more productive.

And they signed AJ Dillion to be a weekly call in guest.
Well, Nags would call AJ Dillon a "Packer Legend"....numerous times.

Dillon averaged 607 yards a season, and 4 rushing TD's a season.
That's a legend?

April 25, 2025 at 08:21 pm
Is Jaire staying? Is there no CB that can play on the board? Or worse, if Mike Green turns into a dominant pass rusher, this pick is going to haunt us — the way we still talk about passing on T.J. Watt or taking Meyers over Creed Humphrey.
At some point, Gute has to realize that the consensus is usually smarter than his gut, especially when that gut is based on a player's Senior Bowl performance. He keeps trying to outsmart the field, but reaching a round or two ahead of the board is just poor draft capital management.
It’s no mystery why he’s drafted so few Pro Bowlers — he keeps passing on them for guys who catch his eye at all-star games.

I thought they would take advantage of this deep DT class to draft an all-purpose DT with a high pick. Now I'm thinking maybe they will just draft a run-stuffer to replace T.J. Slaton.
Maybe another possibility for Anthony Belton is that after this season, they let Rasheed Walker leave, then they switch Zach Tom to left tackle and put Belton at right tackle.

So, consider this - Gute said they want to get bigger on the O-line. They certainly did and have been lately. Throw out your old OL size requirements. More importantly, 3 guys contracts up next year. Tom, Walker, Rhyan. My guess is they only keep Tom. Jenkins 2026 cap hit is ~25 million. He's going to be released, sad to say. That's 3 starting or semi starting (Rhyan) gone in next year. That's nothing to sneeze at. They are right to prioritize. So, who is Center - Tom (next year). Belton goes to RT.

Kind of a rich addition when his best shot is to make the 53 and probably be inactive on game days... assuming he makes the team as a third rounder.

Belton will be an OG and only play tackle in a pinch.
Savion- if he develops- is a run-first team's wet dream. His skillset is very exciting for an offense like MLF's. A guy who can play like a RB out of the backfield and be a physical receiver with that size could be a major chess piece in 11 personnel.
Jacobs, Kraft, and Savion on the field could make it very difficult for opposing defenses to decide if they want to keep an extra safety, LB, or CB on the field.

You may not like the pick, but a GM doesn't pick a player in the third round without him being a lock to make the 53-man roster, and I doubt that he will be inactive on game days. I just ended up annoyed by the time we had made the 3rd round pick. I can live just fine with the Golden pick, Belton was a bit of a headscratcher and a second WR (Savion Williams) just seemed like Gute was ignoring team needs.
Time will tell how all this pans out, because in the end what really matters is how well the picks play on the field, but there are many other possibilities for day 1 & 2 including these choices that were all on the board at the pick :
1) Edge Donovan Ezeiruaku
2) DT Omar Norman-Lott
3) WR Jalen Royals or Savion Williams
or
1) DT/NT Tyliek Williams
2) Edge Ashton Gillotte
3) OT Charles Grant
or
1) CB Maxwell Hairston
2) WR Jack Bech
3) IOL Jared Wilson
or even
1) WR Matthew Golden
2) Edge Ashton Gillotte or a small move up (4 spots) was enough to get Edge Nic Scourton
3) DT C.J.West
I'd have taken any of those options a mile over what we actually got, so for me its going to be comparison time over the next couple of years to see if what the Packers actually did, is better than what I showed they could have done.

Holy cow, I wonder what Christian Watson's old man thinks now! Two WRs taken in the first three rounds.
Well, maybe these first three picks do have something to say about moving on from some players who would be looking at second contracts. Expensive second contracts. The 2026 cap doesn't look all that great and this last round of free agency showed some crazy money being paid to offensive linemen and wide receivers. So were some team needs met? Certainly they were if these guys play and develop as expected. These picks might have a lot to say about Watson, Doubs and Rasheed Walker futures.
Was I hoping to see better tools added to defensive front and cornerback? For sure. Still hoping. There's still a day three. Hey, maybe GB can take one of the wide outs who keep dropping the dang ball and convert them to defensive back (that's a joke there, maybe).

1 year ago everybody were saying we had a great WR group...young talented and already productive.
now the reasult is we need to spend 2 top picks on WRs.
may be at some point people and gutey will figure out the problem is we have a bust QB.
