I am hoping that Gutekunst will get an extra pick in the Top 100. He's done it before, trading Rodgers, Adams, and Douglas for extra picks.

The Packers don't really take WRs in the first round, and they've done really well with second round guys at that spot. It's early yet, but 11 WRs could be taken in the Top 100, including 8 on Day 2. I'd be surprised if we took one of the premium WRs at #23, especially if a premium defender were available.

If Gutekunst sticks to his playbook,he'll try to use FA to fill the holes so that he can take the players with the best upside in the draft, even if they aren't necessarily going to contribute a lot as a rookie. And he'll take guys he saw at the Senior Bowl.

I'm looking to see what he does in FA. You hear a lot of stuff. Obviously, you get a guy like Tyreek Hill and that impacts your draft, or you get a starting CB in FA.

Agree with everything you said.

G's free agency decisions will affect this year's draft. Resigning Myers, which I expect, will make OL less of a need, and more of a desire.

Personally, I'm hoping to get one of the injured CBs in the first round. We have Nixon and Valentine to hold down the fort until the rookie gets up to speed.

WR is really messed up by Watson's injury and Doubs' concussions. I'd hate to rely on Wicks and Reed as our starters. I expect Gute to pick up a free agent WR AND draft a couple.

Thank you, PEO.

On resigning Myers:

First, I have a bias. I think he's better than his PFF critics do. So do the coaches, apparently, and if the team offers him a second contract, that would mean the GM thinks so too.

According to Spotrac, his market value is $7.7M/year, so that would be about $23M for three years, or about $30M for four years. That's less than Runyan got.

However, we're paying Jenkins quite a bit, and we're going to want to resign Tom next year. Me, personally, I'd be inclined to let Myers go, move Jenkins to Center, and spend a Top 100 draft pick on a OL, and get a starting caliber OL in FA. (and hope that Monk or Glover improved). The trouble is, any decent FA offensive lineman is going to cost more than it would take to keep Myers.

Even if we resign Myers, we're still only 6 deep, and as we saw last year, that's not quite enough. Those #7, #8, and #9 guys on your offensive line have to be able to play, because if they can't, you can't make the offense work.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I'm hoping that we bring back Valentine and Nixon, and that they're our #3 and #4 CBs next year. Get a CB early, get one in FA. A guy like DJ Reed would be available for about $15M.

XXXXXX

Your observations about the WR group mirror my own. Less than a year ago, we were happy with our WR group, and were wondering if we would be able to resign Watson or Doubs. Now, we might move forward with neither being part of the plan this year and needing help at WR.

If we spend any FA money on a CB, or on the offensive line, we're not going to be able to spend $25M on Tee Higgins. There are other guys who will be available for less, but they won't be a big impact guy.

Right now, Wicks, Doubs, and Reed are carrying the load, and I don't really think we're going to draft, or acquire, anyone that's going to change that very much.

I don't think Myers is worth keeping either, although I have to admit, there is a little demon in me that wants to see him re-signed just to see the fan reaction.

I think it's safe to assume that if Myers is re-signed, it was done for the good of the team and the plans of the front office. People for some reason seem to think there's some nefarious purpose behind front office decisions. It baffles me.

When I saw Runyan get $30M for 3 years, it was like an epiphany for me. Myers may be less than that, at $23M for 3.

These are guys that would ideally be #6 or #7 linemen. If you're paying your #6 guy $8M or more, is that even something that's sustainable? I mean, look at the Lions. Virtually their entire offensive line is on the bad side of 30, and it's an expensive group.

Decker is 32 and costs $23M
Ragnow is 29 and costs $15M
Glasgow is 33 and costs $7.5M
Zeitler is 35 and is a FA.

Myers would give us 6 legit starters, and if we drafted well, we might get one more. 7 legit starters, and a hope that Glover or Monk improves. If we don't resign Myers, and Glover/Monk don't improve, we only have 5 unless we make a strong draft choice and get a little lucky.

What is widely being overlooked is the precarious lack of depth at OT. The Packers were very fortunate that both Tom and Walker remained relatively healthy for the entire season. Had they not - Andre Dillard was the next man up - so......Plus, both Tom and Walker are in the last year of their rookie contracts. Due to the scarcity of the OT depth - I believe that Gutekunst would normally be looking at this position in the first round. Except the OT class is not parcticularly stellar this year - with no real blue chip prospects - while not very deep.

So while I think that OT is the Packers most pressing need - Gutekunst may defer to the relatively high number of blue chip DL/Edge prospects available in the first round and second rounds (with my favorite Mike Green). In addition, a good CB class (although I would avoid ones with major injuries).

As for receivers - some interesting possibilities. I can see Bech or Higgins in the 2nd round for the Packers and a more raw prospect on Day 3.
