Contracts: All the Important Figures Surrounding the Green Bay Packers this Year
By Ed Wood
With the Green Bay Packers currently on a downward trend after the first five weeks of the 2023 NFL season, there are many who will be wondering which players on the roster are perhaps being overpaid and are not quite pulling their weight and justifying the money that they are commanding.
The Packers are 2-3, and everyone will have expected things to be difficult at Lambeau Field this season following the departure of Aaron Rodgers. Of course, Jordan Love has been the starter, and it is safe to say he has been a little inconsistent through five games. He started off well, but things have been a little downhill in recent weeks.
Of course, those who like to watch football and wager on it, whether that be betting on the NFL or using the latest CFL odds if they are looking for an alternative when waiting for the Packers to take to the gridiron next, may have found recent matches more difficult to watch because of the performances that have been witnessed, leading to fans wondering what kind of money might be wasted on certain individuals…
Green Bay Packers Highest Earners
It is no surprise to learn that David Bakhtiari is the highest earner on the franchise at the moment, with his contract said to be earning him $92 million over a four-year period; averaging $23 million a season. The offensive tackle is going to be a huge miss this season, though, as he suffered another knee injury that will see him out for the season.
Since tearing his ACL in December 2020, it is the fifth time he has required surgery and has only played in 13 of 38 possible matches. He played in the season-opener this year, but questions need to be asked about whether he is still worth paying and keeping on the team. That may not matter, though, as he is guaranteed $61.5 million as part of his contract.
Jaire Alexander earns $84 million over four years at an average of $21 million with $30 million guaranteed. Kenny Clark also earns $70 million over four years at an average of $17.5 million, with $34.09 million guaranteed.
In total, there are six players who are on lengthy contracts that are worth more than $50 million and consist of big guarantees. As there are some big numbers around the team, recent performances may be raising questions about the money being spent on individuals.
Jordan Love may be the one player who is looking to earn a new deal this year, especially with the pressure of being the starting QB this season. He has a one-year deal left with the Packers worth $13.5 million, with $13 million being guaranteed. If he can prove himself to be the long-term successor to Rodgers, then it will be interesting to see how much he could potentially end up costing the franchise to tie down.
Green Bay Packers Salary Cap Information
Currently, the Green Bay Packers are sitting in a good position in terms of their salary cap, with the franchise said to have around $8 million in available space. The current active salary stands at $131,057,716, while the dead cap totals out at $58,823,176. With everything considered, including those on IR, the salary cap is at $218,856,842, with the maximum being $226,782,720.
The available space can be a powerful tool when it comes to the organization trying to make improvements to its roster through free agency or when trying to renegotiate contracts with existing players.
Will things improve on the gridiron for the Packers?
While it can always be easy to look at the amount of money an athlete earns and use it as an excuse or a point of blame, there will be many fans who will be hoping the team’s stars can justify the sums of money that they are paid, especially if they have enhanced their passion for the team with a wager on the game.
Players in the CFL are not paid anywhere near the same, and while those who bet and use the latest odds recognize that the quality is nowhere near the same, many would expect the stars on their roster to be doing so much better than they currently are.
Time will be the biggest indicator, and with some hard games still to come, as well as some teams that will be expected to beat, it is down to the players to justify that they deserve the money they earn and the guarantees that they have made within their contracts.

Can we just hire Wolf and start over.
Bahk is done.
Pay for play must be the obvious.
61 mil means you replace the guy that gave him the contract.
Rebuilding is never easy.
Rodgers didn't want to be part of it.
Patches don't work.

Injuries are something you can never predict, but all of the guaranteed money and pushing money out into future years just kills your ability to make changes or improve later on.

THis staff is not capable of winning a super bowl. Start there.
Until that's fixed, players or health hardly matter.
