Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that free agent guard Chester Pitts will conduct a workout for NFL teams in Arizona on Tuesday.
The 31-year old Pitts is coming off a knee injury that ended his 2009 season, as well as his streak of 114 consecutive starts for the Houston Texans, who used a second-round pick in their inaugural entry draft (2002) on the former San Diego State star.
Pitts' contract expired after the '09 season, and he made free agent visits to the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Detroit Lions. Pitts was unable to pass a physical at that time, and each team has since made moves to address the interior of their offensive lines. The 49ers using a first-round on Idaho guard Mike Iupati, Seattle signed veteran Ben Hamilton to a one-year deal worth over $2 million to start at left guard and be an on-field coach for first-round tackle Russell Okung, and the Lions acquired Rob Sims from the Seahawks for a late-round 2010 draft pick.
While those moves may not preclude the teams from signing Pitts, the best they may be able to offer is a short-term deal and the chance to compete for a roster spot.
The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly monitored Pitts' rehabilitation from knee surgery, as well.
