Chargers Officially Sign OT Tra Thomas

The San Diego Chargers officially announced the signing of veteran offensive tackle Tra Thomas to a one-year deal.

"Tra is a talented player with a wealth of starting experience," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith. "We have held him in high regard for many years. He will be added to the mix as we move forward in preparation for the upcoming season."

Thomas, 35, was a first-round pick (11th overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1998 NFL Draft. The former Florida State standout started at left tackle in 165 of his 166 regular season games with the Eagles, earning trips to the Pro Bowl after the 2001, 2002, and 2004 seasons.

Thomas (6-7, 316) spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he started three of the eight games he was active, primarily serving as a backup to 2009 draft choices Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton.

Chargers restricted free agent left tackle Marcus McNeill has not signed his one-year tender, and is threatening a training camp holdout.
