Welker Says "Just the ACL" Was Torn

Albert Breer of the Boston Globe reports that during his "Cleats and Cocktails" event in Oklahoma City last night, New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker responded to a question about coming back from two torn ligaments in his knee by saying that "just the ACL" was torn.

Breer chronicles all the media reports that mentioned the torn MCL Welker reported at the time, even digging up the interview with "The Sports Animal" in Oklahoma City where Welker mentioned that the MCL needed to heal before the ACL could be replaced.

"We’ve gotta let the MCL heal first and then we can go in and work on the ACL," Welker said in January, via sportsradiointerviews.com.

As Breer suggests, there could be a semantics issue at play here, with Welker simply not thinking of the MCL as being torn, since that ligament didn't need to be replaced.
