Titans to Release WR/KR Mark Jones

The Tennessee Titans will release wide receiver/return specialist Mark Jones today, reports Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.

"With the young guys on the roster and the depth chart, we just felt we’d give Mark an opportunity to catch on some place else," Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said. "With the injuries and everything, it just didn’t work out."

Jones appeared in three games for the Titans last season, catching one pass for 9 yards, and averaging 20.3 yards on 13 kick returns, and 7.7 yards on three punt returns. Jones also notched a special teams tackle before landing on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Wyatt adds that Jones, 29, is recovering from off-season surgery to repair nerve damage in his neck.

A seventh-round pick (206th overall) out of Tennessee by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004, Jones (5-9, 185) has averaged 23.5 yards on 71 kick returns during a six-year career with the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers. Jones also had a brief stint with the San Diego Chargers during the 2008 pre-season.
