Steelers Place QB Dennis Dixon on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially placed quarterback Dennis Dixon on season-ending injured reserve.

Defensive tackle Steve McLendon has been signed off the Steelers' practice squad.

Dixon, who opened the season as the starting quarterback after Byron Leftwich went down with a sprained knee, had surgery to repair torn meniscus in his left knee last week and is expected to miss up to six weeks.

The Steelers will be without nose tackle Chris Hoke, necessitating the addition of McLendon, who made one tackle when he was activated for the Steelers' Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Charlie Batch will start Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, with Byron Leftwich as the backup. Ben Roethlisberger's four-game suspension comes to an end on Monday, and he is expected to return to the starting role in the Steelers' Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.
