Seahawks Sign WR Victor James

According to a league source, the Seattle Seahawks have signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Victor James to an undisclosed contract.

James was not invited to the Scouting Combine, but at his pro day in March posted a 4.53 40-yard dash, 27" vertical leap, and a 10'6" broad jump, which equaled the longest jump among wide receivers at the Combine. (Emmanuel Sanders, LSU, drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round.) James participated in the Seahawks' three-day mini-camp last weekend on a tryout basis.

A backup quarterback and core member of the Lobos' special teams units throughout his career, James converted to wide receiver before his senior season. In his first season at receiver, James caught 35 passes for 398 yards, ranking second on the team in both categories, and his 3 receiving touchdowns tied for the team lead. James also led the Lobos with 12 special teams tackles, and also recovered a fumble and deflected a punt during the '09 season.

James' father played defensive back at the University of Colorado, and was a 10th round pick (272nd overall) of the Buffalo Bills in the 1982 NFL Draft.

James is the fourth tryout player to receive a contract offer from the Seahawks, joining fellow wide receiver Chris Duvalt (Illinois), as well as rookie cornerback Chris Richards (Stony Brook) and veteran offensive tackle Joe Toledo (Washington), who the Seahawks announced the signings of on Monday.

VICTOR JAMES... You are your Father's son! Congrats to you and your family. I attended CU Boulder with your Father and his friends (Reggie Harden, Graham Harrison, Bruce Campbell, Walter Stanley...) and had the best times ever! Typed a few reports for your Pops too (Coaching Theories with Coach Bibler). I am SO PROUD and wish you all the best ever! I'll be watching you play. KAREN PLANALP ("Little Bit" CU Boulder, 1980)
