Seahawks Place Chris Baker, Chester Pitts on IR

The Seattle Seahawks have placed guard Chester Pitts and tight end Chris Baker on injured reserve.

As of yet, the Seahawks have not made any moves to replace either player on the active roster.

Signed to a one-year deal after recovering from major knee surgery last season, Pitts suffered a concussion in the second quarter of Sunday night's 16-6 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Pitts stepped in at left guard after left tackle Russell Okung injured his left ankle, prompting starting left guard Tyler Polumbus to move to left tackle. Pitts sustained the concussion on his first snap, a play on which he was also flagged for holding.

Baker signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with the Seahawks last March. In 16 games, Baker caught 9 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, but with the Seahawks employing 2-tight ends on 42.3% of their offensive snaps, his loss is not insignificant.

The 31-year old is due a $500,000 roster bonus early in the 2011 off-season, whenever that begins.

The Seahawks also placed practice squad running back Chris Henry on the "Practice Squad/Injured Reserve" list. Rookie running back Andre Anderson was signed to replace him, and will wear #35. Rookie tight end Nick Tow-Arnett has been added to the practice squad, with linebacker Vuna Tuihalamaka released to make room.
