Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen has accepted the challenge from billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett and will leave the majority of his $13 billion estate to charity, Kristi Heim of the Seattle Times reports.

"He and Bill (Gates) have talked about this and he thinks it's a good idea to let people know," said David Postman, a spokesman for Allen at Vulcan. "He hopes that maybe it spurs other people to give and he's hoping there will be good things that come of it."

Heim notes the announcement comes on the 20th anniversary of Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, which has handed out 300 grants totaling over $400 million dollars since 1990.

After undergoing a heart valve replacement in 2009, Allen was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for a second time last November. Postman says that Allen has finished chemotherapy, and is actively involved in all of his businesses.
