Oakland Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour, who the Raiders placed the $12.398 million dollar "exclusive" franchise tag on in February, is close to a long-term contract extension, Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Seymour, 30, has yet to sign his tender, and wasn't at the start of the Raiders' three-day mini-camp on Friday. Acccording to Tafur, the team is putting the "finishing touches" on a multi-year deal, and Raiders head coach Tom Cable said that Seymour could be in camp by the end of the weekend.

The Raiders acquired Seymour from the New England Patriots last September in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Seymour started 16 games for the Raiders in 2009, totaling 47 tackles and 4 quarterback sacks, while tying for the team lead in quarterback hits with 12.

Seymour is coming off the final year of a 4-year, $30 million dollar extension he signed with the Patriots in 2006. Parameters of what his new contract might resemble are unknown.

A first-round pick (6th overall) out of the University of Georgia by New England in 2001, Seymour has started 121 of 127 games during his 9-year career, with the 6-6, 310-pound native of Gadsden, South Carolina totaling 404 tackles and 43 quarterback sacks. Seymour has made five trips to the Pro Bowl (2002-06), is a three-time first-team All-Pro (2003-05), and anchored a Patriots defensive front seven that helped the franchise win three Lombardi Trophies.

In January, Seymour was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
